A Short Psychoanalysis Of A Certain Symbolism

Maybe by now, you've all heard of the discovery of some discarded items found in Denver recently. From the sounds of things, it would appear the items were destined to be sent to the garbage dump. The items I am referring to are the American flags used as props at the Democratic convention.

McCain supporters said the flags were discovered by a vendor at Denver’s Invesco Field after the conclusion of the Democratic National Convention. The vendor supposedly found trash bags full of flags in and near garbage bins, and turned them over to the McCain campaign.

Boy Scouts were sorting through 84 bags of flags in Colorado on Saturday, before a McCain supporter had veterans distribute them to the audience.

Being the good Americans they say they are, I would think they'd want a keepsake or two from what many called the thrill of a lifetime. Even if they just recently started to love this country, wouldn't you think a flag proudly waved for the cameras (while seeing the person that made you love it) would be a good memento that could be packed into a lightweight small suitcase and placed in the den, with the "Impeach Bush" buttons and other souvenirs?

I mean think about it. Does it sound like they love America? Why would anyone equate the flag of our country with the policies of George Bush? I think it begs an even larger question here: Do they love their country more than they love Obama? I say this because I bet everyone that tossed a flag, will keep their Obama/Biden paraphernalia to show to their grandkids someday.

Cheap political stunt by the McCain camp? Maybe. But the larger picture still shows a real difference in culture and symbolism. It was not a crime for these people to toss these flags out. But this is an underlying message which will stay fresh in many Americans' minds, when they pull that lever in November.

It defines who they are, and that definition explains much about their motives and intentions. It paints a clear psychological picture of those who are attracted to this man they call "the one", and it prominently displays it for all of us to see. Most of you who read this blog see it. Hopefully, those that are sitting on the fence will see it before November.

The problem is, it is entirely believable that Democrats would “trash” our flag. After all, aren’t they the same people who want to convert American political culture to a European (non-American) model? On this note, the word “socialist” is merely a semantic. What we are really discussing is Marxist ideology, sans the AK-47s or AK-74s. I assume those will come later, once government gets big enough so that it cannot be defeated.

If it's not at that point already.

A few years back a patriotic gentleman in my neighborhood went around and placed plastic flags on sticks in all the yards. He did it to mark the first July 4 after 9/11.

Most everyone kept them displayed for a few days after 7/4, then they all came down. Mine still hangs on the wall of my shop, a little faded, but a memento no less. And the flag magnet that rode on the tailgate of my pickup after 9/11 until it faded is still in my shop, too.

Just call me a sentimental fool, but I don't think I could have thrown away one of those flags.

Ditto, I would have kept it. I save mementos from any significant event that has occurred in my life. If I was a Democrat, I would have been proud to save it.

Yeah ... LA is a packrat. He still has the plane tickets I purchased for him, which he never used. Round trip air fare to the Caribbean. I imagine they're on a magnet on the frig too.

What LA doesn't know is that the plane he was booked on went down in shark infested waters. One day, those unused tickets will be worth a fortune.

My thoughts this morning are with Greg who lost his quarterback last night.

I already unloaded them on EBay. Just what do you think is paying for my trip down there?
