Provocation And Consequences

The world has now seen the consequences that result in provoking Israel. At the same time, the world is now outraged that Israel took the initiative to defend itself. Of course, the world is also convinced that "peace activists" were involved in attacking the Israeli commandos--not anti-semitic activists, as it now appears.

But I contend that if they were truly "peace activists", they would have chanted and sang Kumbaya when the Israelis entered their ship. Would they not?

I ask this only because they attacked with weapons as if to do physical harm (if not kill them), at the same time expecting the Israelis to not retaliate against them. These are not actions of anyone who loves peace. Maybe they thought bringing a metal bar or club to a gun fight would endear them to the world, even more so than they are already.

If there is honor in fighting this way and it does identify someone as a "lover of peace", why is it that Hamas seeks to lob rockets into Israel?

In today's world Israel is the demon and the Palestinians are the the good guys, despite the fact they have a government that is controlled by Hamas. They are the oppressed, despite the fact they are one of the many forces who seek to push the Israelis into the sea. Instead of living in peace with their neighbors and seeing them as human beings (with a right to live and breathe air on this planet), they want to eliminate them. They want war, they live for it.

In the meantime, has anyone else noticed that since the blockade was implemented, rocket attacks from Gaza have ceased? If we think this out a little, we can see that the objective is being met here. Despite what the enemies of Israel say, the goal is not to put undue hardship on Palestinians, as was evidenced by the shipment sent to Gaza--that was promptly refused. It is to keep weapons out of the hands of enemy forces....nothing else.

We know that Hamas cannot exist in the form of its mission statement, if it cannot make war with its perceived enemy. This is why they wanted to test the waters (no pun intended). They are out of rockets, therefore they are out of the tools of their only trade. Instead of using Israel's economy as a model to pattern their own after, they refuse to do anything that will help themselves out of the poverty they find themselves in.

Their Arab brothers like the Saudis will not help them, either. They want them to stay in poverty, so they can remain bitter about their condition and have Israel blamed for it.

The anti-semitic left and their Islamist allies want the world to believe the ships were carrying good things for the people of Gaza. And who knows? Maybe this particular load was just that.

Be that as it may, if one can think outside the box, they can safely conclude that this was a test run to see if Israel would allow themselves to be provoked. If they could have gotten this into Gaza, weapons would have surely followed.

Either way, Israel was in a no win situation.

They had to enter the ships, even if it was a dry run for something greater later on. If they hadn't, the next shipment could (and maybe would) have been something disastrous for the existence of Israel. We can never know for sure but why should we be skeptical, why should we doubt it when Iran and others have made their anti-semitic threats for years now? Are we so far in denial to think that there is no belief and/or intent, behind their hateful and contentious words?

And.....who knows? Maybe the occupants of the ship that attacked the Israelis had something on board that has yet to be revealed? It's not outside the realm of possibilities, if you consider how much these people hate Jews.

If we can see this, why is the world so inclined to side with these thugs?

That's a good question, one that is very tough to answer. But what we do know is, the world has historically been against the Jews from the moment of their very being. One only needs to read history from accurate sources to ascertain this. Europe has been, even before the Nazis came to power and instituted a genocidal slaughter against them.

We may not know the whys, but right now we can all be certain of a few things. The Turks are showing Europe precisely why it was not a good idea to allow them into the EU. They seem to be the driving force in all of this. We know they have been very vocal, we also know that Turkey has no room to talk after the way they have historically sought to wage war in the region. At one time, they ruled the Muslim world under the Ottoman Turk Empire, and have a ruthless track record of human rights abuses.

Just ask the Armenians.

In fact, one can only wonder how the Turks would feel, if the Israelis (or other outside elements) were to smuggle rockets into Armenia to be used against Turkish towns just inside the border or if weapons were to be given to Kurdish rebels.

My suspicion is they would have killed every last one of the transporters, and asked questions later. Dead men tell no tales. Maybe that's what the Israelis should have done in this case.

The Unforgiving

Here's something that captured my attention.

Jordanian clerics expressed disappointment that Pope Benedict XVI in an address to Muslim leaders on Saturday failed to offer a new apology for remarks seen as targeting Islam.

"We wanted him to clearly apologise," Sheikh Yusef Abu Hussein, mufti of the southern city of Karak, told AFP after the pope's address in Amman's huge Al-Hussein Mosque.

"What the pope said (in 2006) about the Prophet Mohammed is untrue. Islam did not spread through the power of sword. It's a religion of tolerance and faith," Hussein said.

You talk about holding a grudge, these damned people are the chiefest of the unforgiving class. The Pope said he respects Islam, which is something I never would have said. What more do they expect?

I'll tell you what, I will call for the Pope to apologize, when someone with some authority in Islam apologizes for:

1. Radical jihadis who kill innocents.

2. Radicals who call for the annihilation of Israel.

3. Palestinian Mickey Mouse characters teaching kids to hate Jews.

4. Calling America the Great Satan.

When someone with some prominence in Islam does this publicly for all to hear, then we'll talk. Until then, they can shut up and deal with it.

Besides all this, Islam was spread by the sword.

Typical Responses

This Gary Varvel cartoon was published earlier this past week in the Indianapolis Star. While it is a humorous take on the events that are taking place at this time in Gaza, it speaks the truth of the situation.

Most that read this blog have no trouble seeing this for what it is. But there are many out there in la-la land, who see this as unprovoked Israeli aggression and are calling for it to stop. They do not take into account that Hamas has no desire for peace. They do not consider the fact that all Hamas had to do to prevent this reaction was to stop firing rockets into Israel.

This has the EU divided.

Sarkozy is condemning the Israeli response, which is what you would expect a French President to do (because it is tradition). But surprisingly enough, the Czechs are calling it what it is, defensive. And as you would guess, there are some vocal critics from the entertainment community calling for the end of hostilities.

London - Singer Annie Lennox and other celebrities are calling on Israel to stop its air attacks on the Gaza Strip.

Lennox said violence could never be a solution to conflict.

My questions to Ms. Lennox:

- Where the hell are you when the rockets are flying out from Gaza?

- Where are you when the rockets get dangerously close to nuclear facilities, threatening the entire region?

- Why is that you and others in your business are blind to the decades-old aggression of Hamas, but open to Israel's actions to defend itself?

But that's not all.

The ex-Eurythmics singer attended a press conference in London on Friday alongside activist Bianca Jagger, comedian Alexei Sayle and politicians including former London mayor Ken Livingstone.

Jagger called on President-elect Barack Obama to condemn the Israeli air strikes. Israel says it is responding to rockets fired from Gaza by the Hamas militant group.

Nice try Bianca, but Obama isn't President yet. Even he realizes it and is respectful of that fact.

"The president-elect is closely monitoring global events, including the situation in Gaza," his national security spokeswoman Brooke Anderson said in a statement after the ground assault got underway.

But she offered no further comment on the violence in Gaza and used a phrase repeated often by Obama and his aides: "There is one president at a time and we intend to respect that."

Senior advisor David Axelrod said Sunday that Obama is "committed" to achieving peace in the Middle East, in the only extended comments from the president-elect's team so far.

"Obviously, this situation has become even more complicated in the last couple of days and weeks... But it's something that he's committed to," Axelrod told CBS television.

Obama transition team officials told AFP the president-elect would not comment publicly in the coming days on the Gaza offensive, and the future president will likely keep silent on the issue until his January 20 inauguration.

As we read on, we see this silence is not sitting well with some people.

His muted response has already drawn the anger of some in the Middle East.

"The start is not good," said Khaled Meshaal, leader of the Hamas Islamist movement that has ruled Gaza since June 2007.

"You commented on Mumbai but you say nothing about the crime of the enemy (Israel). This policy of double standards should stop."

I can understand Meshaal's frustration. Hamas contributed to Obama's Presidential campaign and now they want a return on their investment. But it all leads back to the basis for all of this, which is the rocket attacks.

All it would take is a strongly worded statement which commits to halting them, and then actually living by that commitment. But keeping agreements is not part of the Hamas legacy and it never will be, as long as their charter calls for the destruction of their neighbor. So, why is anyone surprised when that neighbor wants to take out the infrastructure that is being used to advance violence against their civilization?

The same people have no trouble condemning Hitler's attempt to rid the world of Jews, but seem to lack the courage to condemn Arabs who want the nation of Israel eradicated.

Some Sunday Reflections

After a wild and emotional week that was no less than anti-climactic on Wednesday morning, I thought I'd take a moment and reflect on some things that have emerged from the recesses of my brain.

President-Elect Obama will be my president. I may not like his policies (which led me to vote and actively campaign against him), but he is the man the American people elected and he will treated as such. I will criticize every policy, every stance, which I do not think is right for America. But make no mistake, he will get a far better shake here than George Bush got at liberal blogs. If he does the right thing, I will applaud him for it. If he doesn't, then (metaphorically speaking) I will rip his head off and spit down his neck.

Every move he makes will be watched and studied closely. He has already made some bold moves in his short time as the victor and here is my take on those:

1. Appointed Rahm Emanuel as WH Chief Of Staff.

Some people do not like him because of his affiliation with the Clinton Administration. From WND (HT: AICS) comes this article.

While President-elect Barack Obama and his pick for chief of staff see eye-to-eye on domestic policy, they may find themselves arguing over foreign policy, especially when it comes to Israel, Iraq and Iran.

Rep. Rahm Emanuel, D-Ill., who served as a captain in the Israeli army, is surprisingly hawkish when it comes to fighting the war on Islamic terror.

And unlike his new boss, he supported the war in Iraq, although he criticized President Bush for missteps.

During the campaign, one of my deep concerns was Obama's commitment to Israel. He said he would continue to support the nation, despite the fact Jesse Jackson opened his big mouth to the contrary.

Make no mistake here. Emanuel is a tax and spend liberal, when it comes to domestic policy and it is expected this will not change much. But from the WND article, it would appear Israel will still have a friend in the White House, at least during the opening days of the Obama Administration. This is good news.

2. Obama is committed to the auto industry bailout.

US President-elect Barack Obama vowed swift moves to help the country's auto industry recover from an economic crisis that has brought car-making giants to their knees, after General Motors said on Friday it was on the brink of collapse.

In one respect, I am against the government getting involved in any industry or company within that industry. I do not believe that government intervention is the answer to all issues pertaining to a free market economy. From this perspective, I am not pleased.

But this is the auto industry we are talking about. It is a key component to the industrial infrastructure of this nation. To allow this industry to suffer and even risk shutting down would be a major blow, economically and militarily. If all out war were to ever break out, we need to have the capabilities of manufacturing military vehicles on our own soil and it would be utterly foolish to job it out to foreign countries, which may oppose out efforts.

The one caveat I would bring to the discussion is simple enough. If the car companies get bailout money, they must restructure their management and fire all of the bastards that have mismanaged the situation, allowing us to get to this point. Like I said, I am not thrilled about this at all. But this is a necessary evil, at this point in time, not for union jobs as much as the other reason I have stated.

3. I will be watching how he approaches the Fairness Doctrine issue.

It is my hope that he considers this a background issue for now, with other things considered to be more important. But, being the skeptic I am, I have a feeling this will generate out of Congress and be forced upon him. The question will be, how will he receive it?

As a responsible blogger, I want to ensure that I do my part to act professionally, not like the Daily Kos and HuffPo did during GWB's term. But know this, I will hit hard on issues of freedom and liberty and this area I will consider a priority, if he takes the wrong side of this issue.

4. I believe his election is in some ways positive.

For many blacks it has been viewed as a redemption of sorts, for slavery and other abuses. No one alive today lived under enslavement, but is a fact that many still harbor resentment over it. With that said, there are many good decent (key word: many) black people alive today, who did live under unfair Jim Crow laws. I work with one such woman.

I have worked with this lady for over ten years and she is the sweetest person anyone would ever meet. She remembers being out with her parents and other family members as a little girl in Louisiana; she could not eat in certain restaurants and was relegated to sitting on the back of the bus.

On the day after the election, I felt a myriad of emotions just like the rest of us that worked so hard for Obama's defeat. Some disappointment, disillusionment, and profound sadness permeated my sensibilities on that day. And when I saw her at work that morning, she (knowing I had supported McCain) saw me and was slightly guarded in the first instance of eye contact.

I immediately walked over to her and put my arm around her (in a filial way) and spoke directly to her saying, "although I didn't vote for him because of his politics, for you and especially you, I am truly happy for you. She shed a little tear and looked so relieved and gave me the biggest hug.

Another older black gentleman who I have known and worked with for years, is usually quiet, humble, and overall the nicest guy you would ever want to be around. Never has his countenance shown anger and hostility, at least not that I have ever seen. Many times it has shown some measure of melancholy, with his gait slow, and his head looking at the ground while in the hallways. But when I saw him Friday, he had a spring in his step and a smile on his face; he was walking with meaning and purpose.

For him, I also am happy. But to the little snerts with their hands out, those who haven't had to endure what this man and woman experienced, I have little joy for them.

All it has done for me is confirm what I have already known and believed, for some time now. A black person can make it in America, if they work hard. Obama may not be where I think he ought to be and I may not like his background and teachings, but I cannot deny the fact that he has worked hard for what he has achieved. Running for township trustee is time-consuming in my eyes, I can only imagine how busy he has been for the last two years.

I hope that from this point forward, all blacks can truly believe they are welcome to contribute to this society and that hard work WILL get them somewhere. Dr. Bill Cosby has believed it, Herman Cain has believed it, and countless other success stories have proved this, years ago. And there is no one person in the world happier for these two and the many others, than I am.

So now, the election is over. It is done, it is finished. Now comes the time to govern and set the tone for the next election. President-Elect Obama will get fair treatment here, just as George Bush did. His actions will be assessed, evaluated, and intelligent conclusions will be drawn and communicated, based on merit or the lack thereof.

I am LASunsett and I approved this message.

Carter's Attention Seeking Behavior

There is an excellent article from the WSJ about Carter's recent meetings with Hamas. It even notes that Barack Obama has taken a stand opposite of the former President.

It's not that he met with them so much as it is, the total picture that Carter has painted of Israel in his later years. He has demonized that nation and beatified it's sworn enemy, with this latest folly being the"mother of all screw-ups" ever committed by an ex-president.

Check it out, when you get time.

Iran Proposes Alternative To Annapolis

In a move that is not at all surprising, the Iranian government has proposed an alternate meeting.

Iran said on Tuesday that it had invited Palestinian militant factions to a meeting in Tehran aimed at countering a US-hosted Middle East peace conference seeking to kickstart the peace process.

From this opening statement in this very short article, most intelligent people can effectively surmise that the meeting Iran is proposing will not have peace as a long-term objective.

"These groups are planning to come to Tehran within the next week or two and they are all the Palestinian groups that are struggling for the freedom of their land," government spokesman Gholam Hossein Elham told reporters.

Translation: These groups are planning to come to Tehran within the next week or two and they are all the Palestinian groups that are struggling to destroy Israel.

In other words:

The strip of land in question (which was once barren and fruitless before 1948) belongs to the Palestinian people and there is no process or deal that is acceptable, short of all Jews vacating it permanently, so that the Palestinian militant groups can turn it back into a barren and fruitless war zone, once again.

Iran is one of the most vocal backers of Palestinian militant groups like Hamas and Islamic Jihad and pledged millions of dollars in 2006 to the then Hamas government crippled by a Western aid cut.

The Islamic republic does not recognise Israel and its President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has provoked outrage by calling for the Jewish state to be wiped off the map.

As much as I would like to applaud the efforts of the Annapolis conference, I cannot get very optimistic. As long as the current government in Iran is in power, there will be no peace in the Middle East. Pledging millions of dollars in 2006 is nothing new. Ask them about the billions that have been pumped into Hezbollah and others, since the regime was installed in 1979.

As long as oil is a necessary commodity throughout the world, these people will have funding for terror operations. As long as states such as Iran and Saudi Arabia use their huge oil revenues to finance this hatred, it will not go away anytime soon.

EU Philosophy 201

Reuters is reporting:

The European Union joined on Thursday a U.N. call for Israel to reconsider its move to declare the Gaza Strip an "enemy entity" and appealed for it not to cut key services to the Hamas-run territory.

I am trying to make some sense of this. So please bear with me while I run this through.

Hamas has taken over Gaza and has made a habit of lobbing rockets over into Israel on a semi-regularly basis, pretty much from the time they have been in control. So after what I would consider an amount of time that goes way beyond patient, they decide that considering Gaza "the enemy" is in the best interests of their country.

Now, the EU says they shouldn't do that because people will suffer. In other words, Israel should make sure that the people of Gaza (which demographically includes the rocket-lobbers) have all of the things they need to stay healthy and energetic, so they can continue to plot against and attack their country.

Sorry, but I simply must pose some questions here.

What happened to the fine art of rational reasoning? Why would anyone be surprised that Israel would do this? If Luxembourg were raising this kind of hell, would Belgium, France, or Germany be any different?

It amazes me how Europe has put out some of the greatest minds that ever existed and yet, they cannot use a common sense approach in some cases. Don't get me wrong here they do get it right sometimes. Just as there is no 100% perfect system anywhere, there is no 100% imperfect. But I think they are wrong here.

My suggestion the the EU is, to leave Israel alone in this matter. It makes just as much sense as Turkey's stand against the PKK. It makes sense to any nation that must endure unprovoked attacks from a terrorist entity, from within or without.

If basic rations are your concern, I can say all you will need to do is get a map and do some planning. On that map you will note numerous seaports in EU countries that would be capable of shipping supplies to Gaza, who has a seaport that can receive them. You can do that to your hearts' content. Just remember something: While you are doing it, be sure to send plenty if you expect the truly poor people to get any, because the terrorists will get first dibs.

And, they will still be lobbing rockets and will continue to be a destabilizing force in the Middle East.

Folks, at some point, someone will have to get tough with those that seek to subvert the cause of peace. If you keep feeding the lion, he will get bigger and bigger. Then when you run out, he will be that much harder to kill, when he tries to eat you.

Times: Israel Hit Syrian Nuclear Cache

Thursday, I posted a piece on the recent raid conducted which reportedly resulted in a Syrian target being destroyed. Friday, I posted an update on that post, with some sketchy speculation.

Now, there is more information being released, discovered, or has somehow come to light that gives us something more to chew on, while we try to understand this better.

It's easy to speculate from where I sit without having the resources that the London Times has access to. The article seems to do a good job of presenting what they have learned, up to this point. And I do not find it to be unreasonable in its assumptions. But in this kind of thing, one can never be 100% sure, if the picture we see is 100% clear.

Having worked for government before, I have had several incidents occur that I had first hand knowledge of. Yet when I read the account in the newspaper, it looked nothing like it happened. In some areas, it was similar but not exact. So one must always view what they read, with a critical eye.

The general consensus seems to be that there was in fact, nuclear material involved, very possibly from North Korea. The purpose of that material seems to be very much in question. But the two entities that can settle the speculation, Syria and Israel, are remaining very tight-lipped. This is forcing media outlets to dig and piece together information slowly.

Check the article out, if you haven't already. The one thing that you can put together after reading this is: Whatever the reason those materials were there, it was for no peaceful purpose.

Did Turkey Provide Intelligence To Israel?

The Jerusalem Post is reporting that Israel was given intelligence from Turkey, on the targets they hit in Syria. In addition to this, it states Israel was given permission by the Turkish Army to use its airspace, while doing so. This seems to conflict with an earlier report that seemed to indicate Turkey was not too pleased about the use of their airspace.

Many theories can arise out of the ashes. But one thing people must understand is: When the parties do not address the situation directly, there's no real way of knowing what the truth is. Good intelligence also employs the effective use of smoke screens. It may very well be the case here. We just do not know.

At first, Turkey seemed taken back by all of this. Now this leaks out. Such is the cloak and dagger world, in the 21st century.

News In Brief (And The Usual Opinionated Commentary)

As you may have guessed, I have been at a full-speed run for the last few days (especially the last couple), so here are some things the PYY News Center have been following, when able to do so:

Nifong Resigns

"Throughout the years I have served as a prosecutor I have always tried to do the right thing," a tearful Mike Nifong said. "In this case, I was trying to do the right thing. Much of the criticism directed to me in the is case is justified. The allegations that I'm a liar, however, are not justified."

Well, we will let the decision-makers judge that. His willingness to resign (as admirable as it might be) is long overdue. His willingness to admit "some" mistakes is expected. He shouldn't hold back, he should just be honest. He should tell how he let the Black Panthers, Al and Jesse types, and hard radical (all men are pigs) feminists sway his judgment, all for the purpose of winning re-election.

I mean let's look at this a second. This guy may very well have been a decent prosecutor and a good lawyer. Maybe he's not a bad guy. I don't know, I cannot say for sure, I do not know him personally.

But as a public official he severely miscalculated some things, and some damned important ones too. Now, it's time to pay the piper and move on with life. And if I was him, I'd be ready to liquidate some assets to pay his attorney and the now cleared players that had their lives destroyed over this, so he could get a pension.

Abbas Appoints new PM

Ah, the peace-loving people of Hamas (Hezbollah, Al-Qaeda, and other terror organizations too). The world cannot be so blind, as to not see who wants peace and who doesn't. Because from where I sit, this cannot be adequately defended, in any setting.

Hamas has shown the world that peace is not going to be easy, as long as the world tolerates these organizations doing whatever the hell they please. There will be no peace as long as there are nations, willing to arm these that hate peace. Until people are sick of dying and are not taught that Americans and Jews are Satan, there will be no chance at peace. None, nada, zilch, zero.

You can use the argument that we created this, but the fact remains there will be no peace until the organizations that hate peace stop loving war more.

NBA Season Ends

Being a Laker and Pacer fan, I have never been much of a Spurs fan. But hats off to them, they are the champs. They just had too many weapons for anyone to counter, this year. But more significant is the fact, I didn't watch one damned quarter of the NBA all year long. Not one.

I am tired of the thug mentality in the league, which has been permitted to exist. There was the Pacers brawl with Detroit, the Pacers and their affinity for getting into trouble in nightclubs after hours, and the fans from the All-Star game seeing the need to shoot up the town after its conclusion. That's enough for me. In addition to not watching one damned quarter, I spent not one damned dime on any damned NBA attire either.

Springtime In Israel

Once again the weather is warmer, birds are singing, flowers are blooming, and the rockets are being fired at targets within its borders.

Hamas militants fired a barrage of rockets and mortar shells toward Israel on Tuesday and said they considered a five-month truce with Israel to have ended.

The rockets fell after nine Palestinians were killed in fighting with Israel over the weekend. Most of the dead were militants, but Palestinians said at least two civilians, including a 17-year-old girl, were killed.

There's always innocents killed when Israel strikes back, because the militants choose to operate in areas where civilians live and work. They launch their strikes from those areas, so as to invite retaliation, whereby innocents can and will be killed for propaganda purposes. No real surprise here.

A spokesman for Hamas' armed wing said the group considered the truce to have ended.

"The cease-fire has been over for a long time, and Israel is responsible for that," the spokesman, Abu Obeida, told the Voice of Palestine radio station.

Once again, Hamas breaks the truce, but somehow it's all Israel's fault. Israel sent rockets into Gaza completely undetected by a hostile world media? Now, the "peace loving" people that comprise the terror group Hamas want us all to believe that they were defending themselves, again? How can the anti-israel lobbies reconcile this?

If you read the rest of the article, you may reach the same conclusion on this situation, as me. Infighting among the Palestinians is usually best settled by drumming up a crisis with Israel. Fire rockets, invite an almost guaranteed response, and blame Israel more, that is the formula so often used by Islamic terror groups. It keeps the attention diverted from the real problems the Palestinians face, daily.
