I was looking in the Ask LA mailbag for some new correspondence from poor souls with nowhere else to turn. But much to my surprise, I only found one. I guess people have been experiencing a huge mass of bliss, since Obama's election and the only ones who are suffering now are the ones who are just too stupid to get with the program.

Ask LA
Let's dig down into the mailbag and see what poor sould we can help, this week. Shall we?
Dear LA,
We have a problem that is unique and have never seen it addressed, on your world-class advice column.
Please allow us a moment to explain it. We are several families that share a hefty strip of land. We are bewildered and hurt by a recent chain of events which have unfolded before our very eyes.
Recently, we helped a man who said he needed our help to build a better relationship, between his people and ours. He said that others who came before him had alienated us from his people. He wanted to rectify that injustice and if we would help him do just that, he could/would heal the rift. He claimed he would close the gap between us both, promising to consider us and our thoughts, when making vital decisions which would affect us all.
The man was successful in achieving his goals and we all felt much better about the world, for a little while. When he began his quest to fulfill his promises, we were surprised to learn some things about him and have become confused by his recent behavior.
For example, he was visiting one of our family's area recently (for a ceremony) and stayed right down the street from the leader (of that area). The leader invited him to dinner, but was rejected. In another case, one of the leaders of another family's area, living just off the coast of our hefty strip of land, visited the land of the man we helped, and was snubbed not unlike the other leader. (And the family whose leader is a lady, isn't faring much better either. They don't seem to like each other and the press has published much about their rift.)
Keep in mind that we are used to this chasm, we feel that the previous leader totally disregarded our opinions in many of his decisions. (He was not our favorite and we even worked hard against him in 2004.) This would not be such a big deal, except that the man we speak of today, sought us out and by all accounts, appears to have used us to get what he wanted.
Help us LA, for we are about to sink and drown in a sea of humiliation. What can we do?

Time for another venture into the old mailbag, to help some poor soul in his/her afflictions. Here's one I ran across:

I am having trouble with my neighbor again.
Awhile back I wrote you, thinking you would have an answer. As luck would have it, things did quiet down a bit and I thought everything was going to be okay. But now the noise is getting worse.
Why, just the other day, we felt explosions underground and watched as huge fireworks were sent up into the sky. Every time we try to talk to these people about this noise, they do not want to listen. It keeps us up at night, wondering what they are going to do next.
The little dude always looks half-crazed along with his uniformed body-guards. I just don't think they can be trusted right now.
What can we do?

Don't do a damned thing, just wait this thing out like you have been.
There is no need to jump the gun and get carried away. After all, the explosion that you heard was just a small nuke, about the size of the Hiroshima bomb. Small potatoes, if you ask me.
But don't you worry or fret, help is on the way. The UN is going to issue a strongly worded statement soon and most of the world leaders have already condemned this action. That'll show them a thing, or two.

Man, these people be trippin. Ya see, I don't know where to turn. Some people be saying for me to write Aks LA, because the man has the answers. I sed, that's what I am talkin bout. I needs the answers. Right on?
Anyway, here's what's goin down. I am living in a FEMA trailer in the 9th Ward of NOLA (Thassss right, baby. Da Crescent Citty.) But now these people be sayin that I have to give up the crib. They be sayin that da guvment is takin my home away. It only be four years since Katrina and I can't get my act together cuz da man is holding me down.
What am I ever supposed to be doing to stop dis unjustice?

You have a right to be upset. This current FEMA policy of setting an unreasonable May 1, 2009 deadline is racist. It's not even been a full four years yet.
I suggest you call your local media and whip the locals into a frenzy. Tell them how the current administration is trying to keep black people down, by causing extra suffering in addition to the suffering already imposed.
If that doesn't work, call Al Sharpton to come down and lead a march through the streets calling for Barack Obama's head. Let the President know that you will NOT tolerate the continuation of the racist policies of George Bush, Dick Cheney, and the evil Karl Rove.
You must act to defend your rights. There is no reason for them to be putting this much pressure on you or your neighbors, so soon after this horrible disaster.

Ask LA
Well folks, the card and letters have been piling up lately, as I have not been able to keep up with them. So, it's time to dig one out and help another poor lost soul, who desperately needs guidance to see the obvious. Here's one I found:

I am in so much trouble. So much so that I am beginning to think, I am the only one who is going through this kind of a crisis. Believe me, I don't really know just how it got to this point. But this is where I am at, so you have to help me because I have nowhere else to turn.
I wrote Mustang once, but he was very mean to me. He told me to "man up" and "stop being such a little whimp". He also said things like "you made your @#$%&*!! bed now you can @#$%&*!!! lay in it". And if that wasn't hurtful enough, he then said something about PTing me until I drop. I don't think he was very helpful.
Anyway, I know you are a man that is kind, altruistic, and compassionate. Your reputation in helping people is stellar and I have the utmost confidence, in your ability to counsel people who have nowhere else to turn. So, here's my problem.
I was working for a hedge fund that has done some questionable things and lately has come under some serious scrutiny, for cooking the books (a little). To top it off, I cheated on my taxes (a little) and have started to get notices from the IRS, wanting to meet with me for an audit.
It all seems like it's all caving in on me, right now. None of this is my fault, so what am I supposed to do? How can I face my wife and children? My parents? My siblings? Will it ever end? What should I do?

Once again, it's time to go deep into the mailbag to help someone that needs guidance and advice:

Sure thing.
There is this clown running for president who wants to tax corporations more , if he is elected. Maybe supermarket corporations are a little uneasy about lowering the prices right now, due to the fact that when he is sworn in, he will tax the oil companies more (causing another rise in fuel costs), or they just want to sock a little nest egg away for when he comes after them.
You see, Albertson's, Kroger, Publix, as well as your own local Jewel and Dominick's supermarket chains are run by a bunch of evil rich (mostly white) bastards that are not paying their fair share of taxes right now. The clown has already promised to raise taxes on the deadbeats that are not doing their patriotic duty, by supplying the government with unearned revenues (for the purpose of giving it to people that also do not earn anything). This will level the playing field and all will be able to afford arugula, as part of a healthy diet.

Much has been said about your amazing ability, to troubleshoot and problem-solve some difficult situations that people sometimes find themselves in. I have one such ordeal that I would like to share with you.
I have noticed the price of gas has dropped suddenly and rapidly, recently. Which is not a bad thing, but herein lies my dilemma:
It was my distinct understanding that when it rose, the price of my favorite vegetable, arugula, went up also. I love arugula as a garnish for smoked salmon with tarragon sauce or baked tilapia with arugula and pecan pesto. For me, there's no better culinary experience.
Now that gasoline is affordable once again, I cannot understand why the falling price has failed to translate to the transportation costs associated with the food industry. Can you help explain this anomaly to me?

Ask LA
Not only do we get mail asking for advice on relationships and professional quandaries, with the current credit crunch, we are now seeing a marked increase in letters asking for sound financial counsel.
Here is one we received recently:
Dear Buried,
First of all, you must take a deep breath and relax. There is always hope.
Here are some options at your disposal, it's as easy as A-B-C:
A. If you are Hispanic you can contact La Raza. If you are Black, you can contact ACORN. Either of these fine organizations can pressure the greedy white-owned racist banks to lay off of you.
B. You can write some bad checks for your house payments. This will buy you and your hubby some more time to live in a house that was far out of your income range and you never should have bought, to start with.
C. If none of this is successful, immediately purchase a new houseboat and van.
When you have exhausted all appeals in the process and are a week away from the "final notice to vacate" date, move all of your furniture into storage. (Remember to take the dishwasher, stove, and refrigerator that came with your house, and do not forget to take a sledge hammer to the walls of the house as you leave, to show those evil rich bankers a thing or two.)
You, then, can put the houseboat in Florida and park the van down by the river. Consider this an upgrade in lifestyle, because at that point in time, you can tell people you have a winter home in Florida and a summer home where you live now. That way, you'll be the envy of all your friends.

My husband an I have two small pre-school children, have a combined income of $ 45,000 annually, and a mortgage of $1500 per month. We are living in a home that we paid $350,000 for, in 2006.
On our loan contract, it is clearly stated that our payment would be $1000 per month, but that it could go up after two years. Nowhere did it say that it would go up. This is so unfair.
In addition, our credit cards (6) are currently maxed out, two have a balance of $5,000, two at $7,500, and two at $10,000. I am beginning to think we have bitten off more than we can chew and there is no way we will ever dig out of this mess. I am also beginning to think there is no hope and we will be in debt forever.
I cannot face my friends anymore and am so embarrassed. What can we do?

Dear LA,
I am a 60 year old man and I am beside myself. Let me explain.
I have spent years trying to educate Americans on the danger we all face with global warming. That is why I have loaned my influence to companies that can help us beat this terrible problem, big name corporations like GE. These companies stand ready and willing to produce things that can prevent the planet from scorching itself out of existence, causing ice caps to melt, coasts to flood, and turning what is now arable farmland into deserts.
I have tried to warn adults and children that if we want to have a clean and safe world to live in, we must do something now. We must buy things that these companies make, so this horrible scenario does not play out in the next 5-10 years. Sure, I know children have come home crying hysterically after being taught the realities of this crisis. But we have to be truthful to them. We cannot lie to them, or they would never forgive us.
I know, I know. All of this sounds great to you. But here is the crux of my problem.
It turns out that the latest data shows the planet is not warming at all, it is cooling. All continents have been experiencing lower temperatures and the ice cap is actually growing. With all I have invested in this, all that I have banked on and counted on, I am afraid I am now looking foolish and people will not want to believe anything I say.
How can I get people to believe in me again?

Since I have been advocating to all about the dangers of global warming, people have responded. They are car pooling more and buying more products from fine companies, like GE (which "makes good things for life"). They are planting trees and demanding that car manufacturers produce cars that get better gas mileage.
Because you (the people) have responded so favorably, we are now seeing the global temperatures decrease for the first time in decades. That is why the polar ice caps are miraculously reappearing.
Good work for now, but we must not stop here. We must continue the fight until there is snow in Florida in the winter and in Chicago, in the summer. This is the only way we can be victorious in our struggle to save the planet from extinction.

I had this peculiar dream the other night. I dreamed that I was talking to Ted Kennedy about implementing the fair tax. He did engage me a little, but kept looking at his watch and looked as if he had something more important to do, other than talking to me about a concern I had.
What do you think it meant?

It means he didn't give a damn about you or what you thought. It was all about him and what he wanted, as was evidenced by his lack of interest. He could have been looking at his watch to see if it was getting close to happy hour at the local cocktail lounge. You would do well to go to counseling and try to understand why you and millions of others in your state keep insisting on re-electing this embarrassing drunk, to the Senate.

Hi. I am LA Sunsett. Many know me as, LA.
Once upon a time, there was a blogger named Nickie Goomba, who sadly passed away awhile back. He had an occasional segment called Ask Maria (his wife), where she would give advice to readers that needed help solving some difficult problems they faced.
Nickie is gone, the blog is gone, and to the best of my knowledge, Maria is not helping people anymore. So, to fill the terrible void, I am stepping up to the plate, offering my services to people desperately need help with some of the problems they face in the world today.
Here is the very first installment of Ask LA:
Dear LA,
I am so hurt and confused and do not know what I should do. I feel so betrayed by those that I have felt close to for a long time. They say one thing to my face and when my back is turned, they stick a knife in it. They tell me how they support me in my daily struggles, yet when my back is turned, they openly subvert my causes by befriending those that are my enemies.
Just the other day my friend Syria led me to believe they thought a meeting in Annapolis was not going to benefit me and wanted no part of it. But, again, when my back is turned and least expected it, I saw their delegation on the news disembarking from an airplane at Andrews AFB. The news people said that they had not been expected to attend, but surprised everyone by showing up anyway.
Please help me, LA. I am at my wit's end. What should I do?

It's tough when friends do this to you and believe me, I know how you must be hurting over this. But you must understand that this is not your fault. You are the victim and you need to act like it.
The first thing you must do is, lob a few rockets into Israel and try to kill some innocent people. Everyone knows that Israel and the imperialist United States are purposely trying to alienate your friend Syria from you.
When that is done, you might want to execute a few people from the Fatah organization, as they are working against you too. They are conspiring with Israel and the U.S. to hurt you. Issuing some strongly worded threats might not hurt, either.
But whatever you do, do not look inward towards yourself to find the answers. Like I said, none of this is your fault. You have the perfect right to blame all of your hardships on Israel and the U.S., as they are infidels and rats. You have the right to do whatever makes you happy and damn those that have taken issue with your feelings, your suicide bombings, and your deliberate killings of innocent people (to include children).
This within itself, will not be enough to complete the healing process. But it is a good start. Seek professional help as soon as you can, I recommend a good Iranian therapist.

But whatever you do, do not look inward towards yourself to find the answers. Like I said, none of this is your fault. You have the perfect right to blame all of your hardships on Israel and the U.S., as they are infidels and rats. You have the right to do whatever makes you happy and damn those that have taken issue with your feelings, your suicide bombings, and your deliberate killings of innocent people (to include children).
This within itself, will not be enough to complete the healing process. But it is a good start. Seek professional help as soon as you can, I recommend a good Iranian therapist.
