This last debate's numbers can be interpreted in one of a couple of ways.
1. Keith Olberrmann - Consistently at the bottom (or near the bottom) of the daily cable news show ratings. There's a reason for his dismal performance, he represents the noise-making far-left wing of the Democratic Party and there aren't as many as they would have us believe.
2. Union membership is way down. This is why unions are targeting Wal-Mart. They are on the verge of becoming irrelevant and it's quite possible that the bulk of the American people don't care about them, as much as they once did. They are a part of the shrinking power base, therefore, their influence is diminishing.
If I am wrong about either of these reasons, the viewership will continue to be low in the next debate. If I am right, viewership will climb back up.

Agree on Olbermann, he's right there alongside those Air America jocks in falsely believing he matters much. Ratings say otherwise.
Maybe the falling debate numbers just means the politically-minded are getting bored. We're not even within a year of election yet. A bulk of the voters aren't yet paying attention.
This could be part of Freddie's strategy--saving money and big rhetoric for the real deal while not leaving a trail of stuff they can use against him when everyone is watching. If he runs, of course!

I think this could be what Newt is doing.
You think Newt could win the nomination?
AC,

I think he could. Whether he would or not, is another story. A lot will depend on how this weekend in Iowa goes. (American Solutions is Newt's baby.)
If he can get his message out there, which appears to be crafted slightly different from the messages of the rest of the GOP field, he has just as good of a chance, as any. Here is just one aspect of his message and honestly, it makes good sense to me. I have had my differences with Newt in the political arena, in the past. But, he makes more sense now than he ever has.
