What A Difference A Year Makes

Let's take a look back at a passage from a past post I wrote four years ago:

Ms. Sheehan has a constitutional right to protest whatever she wants, whenever she wants. Make no mistake about where I stand on free speech, it must always be protected no matter how ludicrous the message or the ideology.

That said, I think it is deplorable how the left has taken a probably decent lady in a weak moment of grief, and exploited it for political purposes. I also believe it to be equally sad that she has allowed herself to be manipulated into this political, media circus.

Fast forward to today, where we read a passage from this piece in the Washington Examiner:

Remember the anti-war movement? Not too long ago, the Democratic party's most loyal voters passionately opposed the war in Iraq. Democratic presidential candidates argued over who would withdraw American troops the quickest. Netroots activists regularly denounced President George W. Bush, and sometimes the U.S. military ("General Betray Us"). Cindy Sheehan, the woman whose soldier son was killed in Iraq, became a heroine when she led protests at Bush's Texas ranch.

That was then. Now, even though the United States still has roughly 130,000 troops in Iraq, and is quickly escalating the war in Afghanistan -- 68,000 troops there by the end of this year, and possibly more in 2010 -- anti-war voices on the Left have fallen silent.

Today we read that in Baghdad, bombs have killed 95 and wounded over 500. We also read that the war in Afghanistan has now killed over 710 of our soldiers, since the invasion in 2001. And like the Examiner article states, those who vehemently protested the wars of George W. Bush are now conspicuously silent.

Cindy Sheehan is still protesting, Code Pink is too. But the difference is as plain as the noses on our faces.

The irresponsible media hacks (who generated the lion's share of the noise during the Bush Administration) are the ones that have kept this quiet, while they malign the rank and file constituencies of the irresponsible political hacks (who have dared to question the machine). The media picks and chooses the issues of the day on any given day and right now, there is no need to attack the Obama Administration for continuing wars that were so immoral just a year ago.

Good post. Cindy Sheehan is planning a protest of Obama. The question on Fox this am was will the media cover it?

If I were in a position of authority at Fox, I would. After all, it is news. Isn't it?

I'm linking to you on this...it's got to be read and understood by as many people as we can get, LA...excellent.
And no, I doubt the media will cover it...
The hypocrisy is stunning...though why I'm still surprised is a surprise in and of itself, huh?

The media is stuck between a rock and a hard place. Good, I love to see them squirm.

On the bright side, Sarah Palin can make a post on Facebook, for free, and put the entire Obama Administration in damage control spin mode (which isn't free)

That, within itself, certainly surprises me.

(I haven't had this many surprises since I believed in Santa)

If Sheehan gets coverage by any media outlet other than FOX, I will be surprised. Fortunately for the media and the government, healthcare is their excuse right now.

Easy as 1-2-3.

1.Type

2.Send

3.Spin

Great, isn't it?

It's no wonder why the left fears her so much.

Good post Sunsett. I believe we can make a very long list of things the media does not cover now that their man is in office. It will never cease to amaze me how people in the media just don't get it, nor do they understand that everything this administration does, will affect their families as well... sigh.

It is amazing how things change over time. The next thing you know, the Scots … who used to run around in the woods in mini-skirts bashing people on the head with heavy mallets, will release the guy who blew up PanAm Flight 103.

Personally, I think head bashing is the answer to the world’s problems, even if only temporarily. It is an effective program, as evidenced by the last 2,000 years of history, but it needs repeating every generation because most people, being stupid, tend to forget the lessons of history.

Sheehan wasn’t about her son; she was about Sheehan. Obama isn’t about hope and change; he’s about Obama. The American free press is a myth, they aren’t about informing the public; they’re about electing and proliferating the popularity of a black Marxist president. The American educational system isn’t about education; it’s about indoctrination. Health care isn’t about health care; it’s about reestablishing absolute power over citizens who (admittedly) probably don’t deserve freedom.

Most things are covered, but not with the same intensity, not on front page, and certainly not as the lead story on newscasts. They buried on back pages and are given a paragraph or two, when just one year ago they were front and center.

But the people who dare to stand up for their rights to be heard are demonized at every possible turn. e.g: TOP STORY-Angry mob at townhall....blah blah blah.

Uh....don't look now but he's on his way to see the Colonel, as we speak.

See? Cease and/or suspend blogging and you miss the big stories. ;)

As Z has pointed out, the hypocrisy is stunning. In fact, the hypocrisy is SURREAL!

The mainstream media seem determined to keep that Teflon coating firmly attached to BHO.

But this time around, the people won't fall for it. In fact they have caught onto the ruse, sooner than I ever expected. He's losing support from those independents who bought into his dysfunctional bill of goods. And remember, independents swing elections.

Where I agree with the points made by our esteemed warrior and friend, Mustang, I feel he has become a bit cynical of late. Perhaps the dear Colonel really needs to take a road trip! Don't discount all Americans Mustang, we aren't all stupid, though looking at the large numbers that are I can understand your viewpoint. Geesh!
