Obama's Lack Of Diplomacy

'We don’t have a stronger friend and stronger ally than Nicolas Sarkozy, and the French people.' --Barack Obama

Source

This guy doesn't have an ounce of diplomacy in his entire being. I'll agree that the relationship with France is far better than when Chirac was trying to implement France's model for a European empire. But by saying that we have no bigger ally tells Britain, Japan, Australia, Germany, and other nations we have worked with in the past, that they aren't measuring up to his imagined standard.

Besides, didn't Obama snub Sarkozy awhile back?

What the hell could have changed so much that he now has to elevate France above the other nations we share common goals and interests with?

Look, France is our ally. A few years ago, there were strong arguments that they were undermining the U.S., over the war in Iraq. But now, the underminers are gone. And we are in a much better relationship, much to the credit of Pres. Sarkozy. But let's not get carried away and state things that can hurt the rapport we have with other nations in the process.

Remember, in the wake of this recent tragedy in Tucson, we are being told that words do matter. If this is true in THAT particular case, I think they matter here too.

We need all of our allies. We need the French, but we need all of them in different ways.

It's like how you love your family. You love your spouse differently than your parents, your siblings, cousins, and your children. But you love them all and you do not love any one of them more than the other, just differently. And you certainly do not tell one of them that you love him/her more, in front of the entire family at a cookout.

I think Obama should continue his "moment of silence" for the next two years. Wouldn't that be nice?

Believe me Sarkozy is still trying. He's just failing at it.

Now to the beef.

Had this been uttered by Obama 2 years ago you would have had every SF wanabee popping champagne in your face. But make no doubt about it. The French have ended their love affair with Obama and most definitely many are just plain dismayed by Sarkozy's pretentiousness. He talks big and carries a small stick and many French have seen thru this. So in fact it doesn't matter who says what. Talk has become so cheap that nobody takes any politician serious anymore.

I think Obama needed to make up for US diplomats remarks about sarkozy

I personally do not understand how these words came out of Obama's mouth nor what he is trying to prove. He snubbed Sarkozy on D-Day a few years ago and now calls him our strongest ally. I must admit, like many British papers I was perplexed to say the least. He could have said my dear friend Nicolas and our ally France. Sheesh!

Our strongest ally has been and remains the United Kingdom. France still tries to sabotage things English yet without the 60's zeal.I must admit Sarkozy is more of a realist than his predecessors as the French just don't have the bark and bite anymore to constantly thwart the US and the French people while in dormant mode realize that with the end of the Cold War things aren't like before. However still waters run deep.

Most of the French press is into the Renault industrial spying affair where they initially blamed China but have since had to temper their rhetoric. China didn't appreciate being accused and they made it known. This could affect french exports to China

In any case France was named as Europe's worst nation for carrying out industrial spying.

Obama has spent most of his Presidency undermining our relationship with Britain. No shock here.

I don't think it's utterly possible to please that crowd unless America agreed to be annexed by France.
