Objective: Irrelevance. Goal Met.

After four days of fun and not giving a damn about anything that was in the news, I come home to find this this ridiculous story on the web:

Toddlers who say "yuck" when given flavorful foreign food may be exhibiting racist behavior, a British government-sponsored organization says.

So, let's just say we have a white American kid that is offered some Scottish haggis and he/she instantly sneers and says yuck. According to the idiots that make up the London-based National Children's Bureau, these kids may be racist.

Kids say yuck to anything that doesn't sound appealing to them during the toddler years (and beyond). Green beans, peas, and carrots were guaranteed to get a yuck, no matter how they were cooked and presented to my kids at that age. They aren't racist.

It seems to me that a lot of elitist organizations have nothing more important to do than to sit around some conference table in some bureaucratic conference or symposium, talking about things they know nothing about and have no bearing on reality, whatsoever. The organization we now know as the National Children's Bureau has reached this milestone and can be mentioned in the same breath as other useless organizations like the UN.

Congratulations to this organization for attaining the coveted title of "grand masters of irrelevance".

Wow, I had no idea my sweet little girl was an unrepentant racist. Typical white kid, I guess. But I was wondering - does it work the other way? If, say, a Muslim immigrant from Sudan is disgusted by pork or western clothing, is she a racist? I'm guessing NOT.

What happened to England? Where did she go? Are we next?

The truth is, as you suggest, kids aren't racist. Racism is learned behavior. I'm reading BHO's first autobigraphy (penned when he was all of 33 years old), and he claims in the Introduction that his 5 year old cousin was teased about his black skin by his white classmates. I think that story is completely made up, based upon my observations of my 6 year old's classmates - they seem not to notice differences in skin tone. In fact, as you delve into Dreams from My Father, you see that even BHO admits that he was barely conscious of any difference in skin tone b/w his parents until adults pointed it out to him when he was 10 or so.

Several stories in the book don't ring true at all, but the book is absolutely fascinating. I may do a review for you when I'm finished....

You would be correct in your assumption, Greg. Anyone other than whites cannot be racist because they have never oppressed whites and have always been oppressed BY whites. (Written with tongue planted firmly, in cheek)

I think I understand the logic of the British finding, however. Suppose you give a toddler the choice between watching a cartoon show on television, and an Obama speech. If the child says "Yuck" to Obama, he's clearly a racist. This would seem to fit nicely into the Obama/socialist logic table, and adopted by everyone. I think the term for this is “self-fulfilling prophesy.”

Now, imagine the underlying meaning whenever a child says something really prophetic, like, "Oooky."

This would truly be troubling, mainly because saying "oooky" could be construed as a sign that the child would grow up to be independent of government and become an adult that would actually be responsible for his/her own actions without government assistance. Either that or the child could possibly be an early budding schizophrenic, I forget which it is.
