How The Mighty Oaks Have Fallen

Here is a recent op-ed from Dan Carpenter, resident liberal hack writer for the Indy Star.

ACORN has not made enemies because it is running a prostitution ring.

ACORN did not become a prime-time guerrilla TV target because of vote fraud.

ACORN did not take both barrels from Congress because it's been ripping off taxpayers.

None of those rightwing raps has any substantiation beyond isolated instances, always open to dispute, always politically motivated and always prompting remedial action by the organization itself.

So why has ACORN been cast, by the reactionary media and its allied legislators, prosecutors and election officials, as a juggernaut of evil?

Because of the good it does.

You can read the rest of the piece, if you can stomach it. But if we have the ability to use the smallest amount of critical thinking skills, we can safely conclude that Dan is not able to analyze the fallacy in in his statement.

If his weak and faulty claim could be proven true, then, the Right Wing would have been gunning for groups like the American Red Cross and the Salvation Army, years ago. Carpenter does not want to accept the fact that ACORN is corrupt from the top levels on down.

He fails to persuade me. And I bet he doesn't persuade most of you, either.

The obvious question is how many "isolated incidents" does a group get? As far as the author, he sounds like an idiot.

Tom, somehow I knew you would agree.

Chuck, one glance at a Dan Carpenter column and most intelligent people come to the same conclusion.

Greg, your sarcasm is dripping again. If I did not know better, I would almost swear you have been hanging around Mustang.

Amerloque, to answer your question:

Yes. If not outwardly, certainly inwardly.

WTF is this guy smoking?

Murder, even though an isolated incident, is still murder.

Murder, no matter who alleges it, still requires a murder investigation.

Murder, even when disputed, requires a trial and verdict by a jury.

And even if we realize that Acorn is like the mythical hydra with as many as 300 separate organizations, the sheer weight of all allegations against Acorn appears (to me) overwhelming.

"Because of the good it does." Amazing. Using criminal racketeering techniques to put people into homes they cannot afford does not seem to me, in retrospect, to have been a very good thing. Creating a national housing crisis isn't good. It is bad--very bad.

Dan Carpenter makes me wonder if we don't need some kind of weed-be-gone for liberal idiots; he is one.
