Healthcare On The Street

I have to honestly say that Juan Williams gets it right once in awhile. But when he gets it wrong, he really gets it wrong.

I have heard Mr. Williams confront race-baiters in the past and for that, we commend him. But in this comment about the recent rejection of Obamacare in Missouri (Prop C), Juan is truly clueless:

Yeah? Old white people were responsible for the bill's passage, alright.

Kevin Jackson did some research and here's what he found:

All I can say is, I hope this is a sign of more good things to come. States need to exercise their rights afforded them under the Constitution. In this case, the people of the state of Missouri did just that... while clueless residents stayed home.

I have always liked Juan Williams and thought he was pretty even-handed but after the election I thought he changed and became quite the Obama stooge.

I was struck by the "someone will take care of us" attitude in the second video

Well, yeah …

There are 5.9 million people living in Missouri. 85% of those are white, 11.5% are black. If everyone in Missouri showed up to vote, that means 4.2 million voted in favor of the proposition, and 1.7 million voted against it. What we don’t know, of course, is how many people actually voted; but if even half the people showed up to vote, then somewhere around 2 million of those 2.9 million people voted for Proposition C. It really does sound like democracy to me.

Juan Williams is a statist and a moderate Democrat. There are times when I think he gets it right, but on matters of race, he is quite clearly defensive. He apparently forgets that the purpose of the US constitution limits federal power. He apparently forgets that the people of Missouri are citizens of the Missouri before they are citizens of the United States. Where he probably gets it right is that the federal judiciary (emphasis on the word federal) is hardly a nonpartisan arbiter. States MUST reassert their sovereignty, however. They must. And if they do not, then federalism is dead and so too is our Republic. Maybe that's okay too ... maybe we don't deserve a Republic.

Let me make one prediction: if federal courts continue to vote against state sovereignty, watch the states call for a constitutional convention. It won't be pretty.

That's the Great Society that LBJ promised us, Chuck.

So was Prop 8 in CA...but that got struck down at the request of the minority.

I saw Juan say that live and was surprised......
Chuck's right; he used to be much more even handed but not since Obama. It surprises me even more now when he does get it right.

I keep wondering just how much pull the WH has on our journalists.....something strange is going on, I think, but it's hard to imagine that someone like Williams would be sucked into anything really questionable.

maybe i'm just a "typical white person," but what's wrong with old white people?

also, it's telling that juan williams (uncharacteristically i would say) would insult chris wallace as he did, while he himself can't articulate his side's framing of the legal issue in the obamacare lawsuits. in fact, he seems to use the opponents' framing. he's the one who needs to read up.

Z,

Juan has allowed himself to get sucked into this stigma of not being black enough. I think that when he was called an Uncle Tom, by some race-baiter whose name I forget, it affected him.

Greg,

Although he is not a hardcore leftist, he still is more of a liberal than anything else. And we all know from experience this is their reaction when they lose an argument.
