Go Bears!!!!

Anyone want to place a bet for Sunday's game? ;-)

I don't bet, and this is a really good matchup of great all-around teams. Too tough to predict a winner....

Here's a bet I'm comfortable with:

I bet I will drink at least a 6 pack on Sunday.

Any takers?

I'll wager a bet with LA...if the Colt's win, I'll write an entire paragraph on your blog that is complimentary to George Bush. If the Bear's win, LA, you have to write an entire paragraph that is complimentary to Hillary Clinton. The paragraph has to be at least 5 sentences.

Greg
That bet sucks...c'mon, get with the program!

Colts 42, Bears 0. And no wardrobe failures allowed, unless they decide to switch Prince for Shania...

Big drunk.

ME,

Talk about a lame bet.

You couldn't even come up with a short sentence that would be complimentary about Bush, much less a paragraph. You need to go to confession tomorrow and confess that you tried to bet something that you can't deliver. You cannot even come up with some winning lottery numbers. ;)

BTW, before you respond harshly to me, you better take a look at AC's prediction. He's really talking smack. Even I wouldn't taunt liberal Chicago Bears fans, with those kind of numbers. ;)

Seriously, this one is going to be tough to pick. On paper, I'd have to say the Colts. They have the experience, and the Bears are a younger team. But, these two coaches know each other well, the coaching battle may be where it's won or lost. But when you get to this level, teams have a way of stepping up and performing well, even when picked as underdogs.

It's all coming down to which team executes their game plan best.

May the best team on the field, win.

AC,

//Colts 42, Bears 0.//

You've evidently been drinking with Greg.

I'll give a salute both to Greg and A.C. I too will be consuming fairly substantial amounts of "Golden Soda" on Sunday. A.C., wouldn't it be smashing if Shania got off of her huge piles of gold and jewels and made a public appearance again...she's just almost perfect..

I'll go with a Colts victory but a close one. Make Vinny whatshisname kick a winner to further cement his dominance.

LA Sunset said...

Mark,

//I'll go with a Colts victory but a close one.//

I'll go out on a limb here. Colts 20-16. The Colts' defense must put pressure on (and rattle) Grossman. They must take advantage of his inexperience. I see similarities in this game and the Baltimore game. I personally think that Baltimore had the better defense, but the Bears are a strong second.

Golden soda?

Unknown said...

golden soda = beer

I agree with your assessment. Grossman isn't nearly reliable enough for anyone on the bears' side to feel comfortable about sunday. Freeney's going to spin his way into a great day for the colt's defense. I hope. The bears double threat running is pretty good.

I just don't want to see Manning answering questions after a loss whether or not he will ever win the big one as one of the best quarterbacks to come through the league. That talk bores me.

Mary Ellen said...

Now, now LA...here I was ready to do the difficult task of saying something nice about Georgie boy and you lost the chance. I think you're afraid to take that bet because YOU can't come up with anything nice to say about Hillary! As far as going to confession...hell, I have a lot worse to confess than that!

You're right, this is going to be an interesting game. I wouldn't be too sure that Grossman will choke, even if he is inexperienced. I'd rather see the Bears go in as the underdog, they won't be so cocky. Either way, the Bears played a great season and I don't think they have anything to be ashamed of.

I also saw in the paper today that Grossman is getting a bit ticked off at the remarks by the media that he will blow the game. If he's pissed, he'll play better and stay focused, IMO. I heard the weather in Miami is going to be low 60's...not exactly Bear weather, but at least it isn't going to be in the 80's.

So, I guess none of you guys are willing to wager with me....you had your chance. :-D

I had that much figured out. I just had never heard it called that before.

I can too and I will think of a few. Sometime. (Guilty look)

Don't look for it too soon though. I will have a new post on her, probably in the morning. ;)

Yes it would. But for some reason I think my wife would still hate her. Just a hunch.

Lucky you. You only have this, very periodically. I get that three times a year, here.

1. Indy 500
2. Brickyard 400
3. U.S. Grand Prix

That doesn't include the times we host the NCAA Final Four.

I feel your pain.

LA,

We are going to have to part ways on this post. I think the last game showed a winning strategy regarding Grossman. Basically, don't risk anything until you are forced. Grossman can take the pressure for parts of the game and come through.

I don't watch many Super Bowls. I think the last one I watched in its entirety may have been 1986. The portions of the ones I did see lead me to think that there is all too often a blowout and not a close game. That is my prediction and of course I favor the Bears. The score will be 30-16.

Go Bears!!

Mary Ellen said...

All I can say is that it's good the Superbowl isn't being held in Chicago. It's freezing cold and windy as hell. I'm sure that wouldn't stop of few guys from stipping down to half naked and painting themselves blue and orange.

Go Bears!!!!!

LA, has the hype been as big for you guys in Indianapolis as it is here? They even put a Bears hat on the Picasso in the Loop and our Lions in front of the museaums are donned with Bear's helmuts. All the buses have "Go Bears" on the electronic message board on the front of the bus. The expressway electronic message boards also have the same thing, not to mention many of the buildings in the Loop have the "Go Bears" lights on them.

I'm going into the Loop tonight to a show (Blue Man Group) and dinner I'll see if I can get some pictures of the buildings....if I don't get blown over from the high winds, first!

Go Bears!
Go Bears!

I'm going with the Bears 24 - 10. Grossman will come through

LA Sunset said...

ME,

//LA, has the hype been as big for you guys in Indianapolis as it is here?//

Has it ever? Everywhere I look it's Colts this and Colts that. One of the car dealers even painted an old gutted junker in Chicago Bear colors, and for a donation (that went to charity) people could take a swing at it with a sledge hammer.

LA Sunset said...

Rocket,

//I'm going with the Bears 24 - 10. Grossman will come through//

People in Grossman's hometown of Bloomington are really torn, on this one. They love Jeff, but they love the Colts too. I was a Bears fan back in the 80s and would have rooted for them this weekend, had any other team been playing them.

For the record, I picked the Bears to go to the Super Bowl a long time ago. For that prediction, I was mocked at work.

LA Sunset said...

Correction:

They love Jeff, but they love the Colts too.

should read

They love REX, but they love the Colts too.

I don't know why I said Jeff instead of Rex. Age does that to a person I guess.

Mary Ellen said...

Ok, LA...I went to Church this morning and said a little prayer for the Bears. But, God answered and told me that He's not sure which team he'll back. He's a HUGE Bears fan, but the Blessed Mother is giving Him some grief...she's a Colt fan, something to do with her fondness for horses...anyway, it looks like we'll just have to watch the game and let the best team win.

I'm not expecting a win for Chicago, but I'm hoping for one. Either way, I'm going to a Super Bowl party that has plenty of beer to soothe my nerves or broken heart, whatever the case may be.

Just a note...it's 2 degrees in Chicago with a windchill factor of 25 degrees below zero. They opened up the parking lot of Soldier Field for tailgating today and only three guys showed up. I am assuming they have left by now, if not, I hope they enjoy watching the game in the emergency room at University of Chicago hospital, while getting their frostbite cared for.

Wow

I looked at the picks and saw that everyone is going with the Colts. What the hell do I know over here in soccerland. So I'm still going with the Bears 24 - 10.

For the following reasons.

Rex Grossman went to my younger sister's alma mater

My cousin lives in Chicago and is a BIG Bears fan

Mary Ellen is rooting for the Bears

LA Sunset said...

ME,

It's damed cold here too, although not as cold as Chi-town. The Indy Mayor and his group of lobbyists are down in Miami soaking up some rain, looking to attract the Super Bowl for Indy in 2011. Not sure how the current weather pattern is going to persuade the NFL to pick Indy, but they are trying, nonetheless.

One thing to note about Indy is, all of the stuff is pretty much situated for indoor activities and in close walking distance. Be that as it may, walking in this kind of weather is not fun, even if it's just a few blocks.

As for the game, I hope the Colts win. But, if they do not, I will be happy for the Bears. I picked the Bears to go to the SB about 6 games into the season, and was the subject of much ridicule where I work.

It wasn't because the Bears have no fan base here. This was Bear country, before the Colts arrived in the Mayflower trucks in 1984. But, they, like many, had no faith in the Bears, much like many had no faith in the Colts. Neither team got a lot of respect from the media, but nevertheless, here they both are.

Here's the Colt's fight song...

Let's go you Baltimore Colts
And put that ball across the line,
So, drive on you Baltimore Colts -
Go in and strike like lightning bolts,
Fight, fight, fight,
Rear up you Colts and let's fight -
Crash through and show them your might -
For Baltimore and Maryland -
You will march on to victory.

Oh yeah....they're not in Baltimore anymore! Ha!

Hey LA where are you writing from?

Anonymous said...

PS

The only Colts I remember are the Baltimore Colts which shows which generation I come from.

I was a Washington Deadskin fan. You know sonny Jurgenson etc. Charley Taylor.

LA Sunset said...

Rocket,

//Hey LA where are you writing from?//

A suburb of Indianapolis, which is where the Colts make their home, now. I have lived here for a good many years now.

Baltimore is now the home of the Ravens (named after the Edgar Allan Poe poem). The Colts beat the Ravens to advance, three weeks ago. The Bears have a very good defense like the Ravens do.

I remember Sonny Jurgenson, he was a good QB in his day.

I read John Kass' piece in the Chicago Trib this morning, he's been in Miami this week and has had some pretty funny stuff to write about. Anyway, what he said today was pretty good. All the talk about Rex not being good enough to win was put in perspective by this quote by John Tait.

He's taken so much, from these guys (reporters in Miami). It never ends, the picking on him. And he just stands up there and takes it for the rest of us. He's never once said "I wouldn't have thrown that interception if Tait didn't miss a block' Rex has never once said 'I threw a good pass but the receiver dropped it', not once, ever, with all the criticism. That demonstrates leadership to me."

As Kass said, so well..."He's not some political boss. He's just a kid, a football player with so much talent, and no matter what happens on Sunday, let's hope fans understand that, and step back, win or lose, before he sours on Chicago.

Go Bears...Go Grossman!

LA Sunset said...

ME,

He's just a kid,

He's certainly a good football player that has been much maligned by the Chicago media. he's got guts and spirit. I think that in time, he will be one of the greats, win or lose tonight.

As an aside, my son just called me while you were typing your smack and said he watched Manning get off of the bus and he looked like he was all business, while Grossman looked nervous. You are right, he's a kid. but he's a kid that will develop into a solid player, if he is given the chance.

LA Sunset said...

Rocket,

No drunkeness here. I have to work tomorrow too.

LA Sunset said...

ME,

My son's mom is from Chicago. He has an aunt and two uncles that still live there. He said the "trash talking" text messages are going back and forth, feverishly.

Mary Ellen said...

It could be that Manning looked "all business" because he's over confident. Grossman has a very experienced team behind him....and the last thing I would want to see is Grossman being over confident. The last time he was, we lost.

I have the feeling our defense is going to come out fighting...watch out Colt's!

Mary Ellen said...

Yeah...it's going to get pretty heated by game start. I have a niece that lives in Indianapolis....haven't talked to her this week, though. She wouldn't dare talk trash to me...I'll kick her behind! :-D

Halftime and the Colts are up. They get the ball first in the 2nd half. Outstanding!!!

Colts traditionally are a 2nd half team, after they make adjustments.

Very sloppy game.
