USA Today: American People Believe Obama Will Succeed

From the USA Today comes a poll that indicates many people in this country have some high (and maybe even unrealistic) expectations about Obama's ability to deliver this nation and heal the land.

Americans are as down as they've been in decades about the state of the country and its polarized politics, even as they express soaring confidence that Barack Obama will be able to turn things around. A USA TODAY/Gallup Poll finds stratospheric expectations for the incoming president that his own supporters acknowledge may be unrealistic. A majority of those surveyed say Obama will be able to achieve every one of 10 major campaign promises, from doubling the production of alternative energy to ensuring that all children have health insurance coverage.

This is like sheep being led to the slaughter and cattle being led to the packing house.

We will have a Treasury Secretary who didn't know to pay his taxes, an Attorney General that didn't know the extent of the charges against Marc Rich before he stuck his neck out for him, a CIA Director with no intelligence experience, and a Secretary of State whose husband has accepted questionable foreign donations for his foundation.

How can he possibly fail?

(If this wasn't so damned sad, it would qualify for the Friday Funnies section.)

How can he possibly fail? If he fails, and nobody in the MSM reports it, can he really fail?

FJ stole my thunder. BUT, the media JUST might have overstepped this time. With the constant negativity about the economy for the last year, who'd hire or buy stock? Or buy Christmas presents, for that matter? I remember a year ago the ABC news people would give good Dow Jones numbers and always add "BUT..." and give bad news. I was wondering why they kept throwing that in even before any of us knew how bad it was going to get. Just seemed unusually negative. Americans got so scared it was a self-fulfilling prophecy (and no, I'm not saying it's the media's fault but there are analysts who are agreeing with me on this, suggesting the media helped the downturn)

If obama is going to succeed, he'd better start acting like past presidents and become a real leader who shows optimism and the CAN DO SPIRIT America is famous for.
Trouble is, he doesn't WANT Americans to DO IT....he wants to GIVE it to them.....BIG difference. Not self reliance and tightening our belts while we dig out of his economy, but going to the government to make it better.. When it can't.

it's all about HIM. And the people seem happy to support him on that. THE ONE will do it!

LA...you watching the inauguration?

True story. I was out last night with the guys, and I was complaining about my commute and the fact that I can't sell my house. My buddy says - no joke - "Well, hopefully with Obama things will get better." I slapped him (but not too hard).

He can’t . . . he’s got the Chicago machine working on his behalf. It is a sophisticated collection of liars and thieves, most of whom return to us from a previous era. Even in three years when the terrorists attack us once again, it will be Bush’s fault. In the news today, AP announces that Obama will prohibit “rigorous” interrogation of captured extremists. So, we’ve got that going for us, eh?

Hi FJ, long time no see around here. Hope we didn't piss you off.

As to your comment:

If a tree in the forest falls with nobody around, it may not make a sound but there's still a downed tree.

Z,

While I think you are right about the media spinning things in a bad light, I have to say I have been worried about it for many years now. Even back during the Clinton administration, I foresaw a major collapse in the future. The reason is the foundation on which our money was being made and propping the numbers up on Wall St.

Even back then, there was a shift to a paper economy. By that I mean our manufacturing base was slowly slipping out of the country to others and the jobs were replaced by banking, insurance, etc. We accepted them, as they did pay and people were able to pay bills with them. But they are not durable and will not sustain us well, through times like this. The clincher is we financed much of this by borrowing money from China other nations that have no interest in seeing us succeed.

Just a thought for you to ponder.

That would have killed my appetite.
