Justice La Idiota?

Among the liberal elitists, there is this gross misconception that the function of the judicial system is to make laws, make policies, etc.. Most of them will not come right out and admit it, but that's the way they view it. But now, we have a SCOTUS nominee who finally admits it publicly:

Note how she says this, then instantly knows she has screwed up and tries to retract it. What brilliance!!

Look, I have no problem with Obama replacing a liberal justice with another. In fact, I expect it. But do we need someone who has no understanding, no comprehension that the judicial system's primary function is to INTERPRET the law, not make it?

As we may surmise, this will not be enough to prevent her from taking her place on the bench. In fact, it would not surprise me to learn that she has cheated on her taxes. This seems to be a prerequisite in the Obama led government. Why should this be any different?

Let's just say it will be interesting to see what kind of secrets the Right will dig up, during the vetting process. Obama's team doesn't seem to do a very good job of screening their nominees very well. So for now, just being an idiot will not be enough to disqualify her. (Case In Point: Press Secretary Robert Gibbs.)

The bottom line here is, she has a story. She came from humble beginnings, in the Bronx. Her daddy died when she was nine, her mother worked two jobs, blah, blah, blah.

That's impressive, to be sure. But that still doesn't tell me she is the best person for the job. My parents worked their asses off too, my father was a decorated soldier and airman from two wars. Mom worked evenings, to make ends meet. But that doesn't mean I am qualified. Does it?

In spite of the fact that I have no background in law (other than when I had to testify in Federal Court for the State of Indiana, once upon a time), I do know the function of the courts and would never make such a bonehead statement as she did in this seminar with her peers. But that's just me.

Sonia Sotomayor is many things, but idiot is not one of them. She is a liberal justice with a capital ‘L’ and we should expect her to evaluate cases based on her liberal biases. I do not agree with her liberalism; I do not support the hypothesis that judges must bring compassion into the courtroom. The law is the law; I agree her job is to interpret the Constitution, not change the constitution.

You and I can agree that she will not serve the true interests of the American people, but the bottom line is that it doesn’t make any difference what you and I think. She’s going to do what her liberal biases tell her to do, just as Obama nominated her because of his liberal mindset. She’s young … she will have plenty of time to take the court to where Obama intended her to take it. And this is not a good thing.

The worst part about this idiot is that she's apparently a bigot. Her words: “I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn’t lived that life.” Like most all of today's liberals, she's immersed in race identity politics. You know, a racist. On the Supreme Court.

I find myself saying this a lot lately - I don't recognize my own country.

I think it's a foregone conclusion she will be nominated but I think it will be costly for Congress and Obama.

This process will be more about next years election than about the SCOTUS.

I am not advocating the right using her as a political tool. I want them to fight the nomination because she is a bad choice. I just think the end result will be that she will make the Dems look bad.

She is the definition of a litmus pick, Hispanic, woman, far left, pro-abortion, pro-affirmative action. What's not for a liberal to love? I'm not even saying they should not have nominated her. I agree with Mustang in that this is how it works, Obam gets to make the pick and was going to pick a strongly liberal person.

What may come of this though is that he picked based on race, etc at the expense of ability. The perfect affirmative action candidate which Americans are becoming increasingly less tolerant of.

Publicly there will be support for a Hispanic on the court, I admit to thinking it is a good thing, if the person is qualified. People don't vote publicly though, I think this will be one of those nagging things that are slowly building up against Obama and the Dems.

I see this the same as you, LA--she messed up and let the cat out of the bag, then tried to cover up rather clumsily. Combined with her 2001 statement that Limbaugh was harping on (Latinas should produce better decisions than white males) it's a start for questioning. Respectfully, of course.

Politically, they say it's a move to get more Latinos in party for the 2010 elections but why would Latinos support a pro-choice Catholic? Weren't we told most of the immigrants were strong family people? That would seem to be an opening for the GOP.

First, it isn't a surprise pick. We knew he would pick a flaming liberal, we knew the person would be a "minority."

The most aggravating thing is that the Libs always tote that they are the non-racist party and that conservatives are flaming racists...yet the Libs keep basing everything on race...

I would think a person would want to be hired for a job because that person was seen as the most qualified for said job, rather than being picked due to ethnicity/gender. What great accomplishment is it to be given a job based only on being a woman, or being a Hispanic, or being an African American,or being an Asian American etc... Do we really need all these qualifying titles before the word American?

That to me, would be the most demeaning reason to be hired for any position. Hiring someone based on their ethnicity/gender is just as wrong as not hiring someone based on their ethnicity/gender...

It is hypocritical to say the least...

Idiot is a relative term. I do not consider her an idiot because of her liberal biases.

I consider her an idiot because she did not have the good sense to keep her mouth shut about her errant beliefs in a forum that had a camera rolling. Either that or she doesn't understand what the founding fathers intended when they drew up the framework for the government.

In either case, I think she falls short of a certain amount of intelligence necessary to fill a seat on the SCOTUS.

The presence of richness of experiences is not a prerequisite for SC Justice. Knowledge of the law is.

Many are qualified. The question is, is she the BEST candidate for the job?

From where I sit, she isn't.

That is provided the GOP has enough sense to know an opening, when they see one. There are far greater openings they could jump on, if they only would.

Plus, it has been my experience that Puerto Ricans and Mexicans aren't that cohesive of a group to start with.

I saw this as well and can sense the arrogance in her tone - it's pretty obvious. BTW the latina vs white guy comment would have derailed ANY conservative nominee, at the equivalent in our world.
Thanks for coming to the LCR, hope to see you more!
