Maladaptive Coping Skills 101

Barney Frank doesn't look like he's doing well these days. It seems he is usually on the defensive, usually angry, and most always deflecting criticism from himself (for his deeds and stances) to others. Most of the time, this involves blaming Bush for everything.

Recently, he had a debate with Michele Bachmann (R-MN) on Lou Dobbs's show. Note how Ms. Bachmann maintains a cool head and stays on message throughout the entire interview, while Frank looks like the blabbering angry fool that he is:

Frank uses all top three levels of defense mechanisms, as described by Vaillant, to make his argument for why he cannot sign onto policing groups that are indicted for voter fraud, keeping them from federal money.

Vaillant called Level I defense mechanisms psychotic in nature, Level II as immature defenses, and Level III as neurotic. In this video, Frank pretty much hits them all. During his tirades in this interview, I spotted the following:

L-I: Denial, distortion, and delsusional projection.
L-2: Projection and acting out.
L-3: Displacement and rationalization.

Anyway, that's my take on the entire thing. Watch it and see if you can find any that I missed.

Frank's entire deflection sttrategy of forcing Bachmann to defend something the Bush admin did when she wasn't there--without providing any facts as to who voted for it or how it was passed, was worthy of a message board cowboy and served to keep the debate off the current Obama funding (and nefarious intent) of this group. That was planned of course.

He never answered Dobbs' question about why we even need ACORN at all, suggesting that it was due to Repubs wanting everything contracted out, as if he'd answer the same if we were funding a Tea Party group. Pitiful, really.

And yes, he seems to have a problem with Ms. Bachmann. Twice he got overly ruffled by 'interruptions' when we've all seen much worse on these kind of debates. I think it was either an intimidation tactic or perhaps just his overall problem with women who don't share his hedonistic views.

One of our former Commandants was visiting the Marine Corps Air Station at El Toro, California. General Wilson won the Medal of Honor for actions during the Korean War. During his tour, he happened across a somewhat overweight gunnery sergeant, so he took the NCO aside and spoke to him about the importance of maintaining his weight. The gunny, who must have experienced a brain-fart, began to argue with General Wilson and referred to the fact that he too was awarded the Medal of Honor; which he had. General Wilson replied, “That’s fine, Gunny. But what have you done for your country lately?”

It is true that the Republican Party funded ACORN and like organizations as part of their program to contract work, and in a perverse way, decrease the size of government. In doing so, the number of employees decreased, but actual expenditures of public money increased. And of course, we might agree with Ms. Bachman that the federal government has no business at all getting involved in such matters as voter registration, particularly when that same government excluded several thousand (perhaps even tens of thousands) of military absentee ballots in the last election. We may also wonder why ACORN housing assistance is necessary in light of the existence of the Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Nevertheless, Frank is one of those people who continually strive to shift blame away from himself. Democrats have been in charge of the House of Representatives since January 2007. They have not hesitated in cancelling programs they disagree with so far, so then if Mr. Frank agrees with Ms. Bachman, what precludes him as ranking member and committee chairman from changing direction? That is what Ms. Bachman is asking for. Frank is a buffoon and a hypocrite. He is also one of those raging homosexuals who simply cannot deal with women. He must have had a terrible mother.

But finally, those of us who regularly come here to feed at the intellectual trough of this heretofore inspired blog feel wonder why we must be subjected to Barney Frank under any circumstances. Ten minutes is a long, long time. The video in this post was an inexcusable assault upon my senses; I may never fully recover. We must now ask, “Does LA Sunsett have no regard for his readers?” This post not only proves Sunset is a bastard; it also justifies yet another lawsuit against Sunsett Enterprises, Inc.

I think he has anger issues in general, but you make a good point about his inability to deal with women. He feels threatened by them, so he seeks to intimidate them.

Someone needs to take him out back and kick his ass once or twice, to teach him some respect.

WERE his constituents thinking?

Did you not know you could pause the video? Or choose not to listen to it, at all?

Sheesh.

I am all for slamming Kerry and Kennedy, anytime the issue warrants it. But that's low HAM.

Frank in a section of the bottom of the barrel, all by himself. He may be the worst member of Congress, we have.

The last time I gave you several, Mustang ridiculed me and made me feel insignificant.

He asked me, how I could put up videos by a bunch of Communist heathen and other such things.
