Another Blast From The Past

Tomorrow is the Super Bowl which means it will be "Super Sunday", part of a "super" weekend. So in the super spirit of unnecessary superlatives, it only stands to reason that we have a "super" theme.

In fact it's only logical that we start it off with Supertramp (a great live performance):

The temp in Miami on Sunday should be in the 60s with sunny skies. I know many of us would love that where we live right now, but the best we'll have to settle for is a couple of songs about sunshine:

This was probably a different kind of sunshine. But why argue over nomenclature when it's still a good tune?

Enjoy.

Go Horse!

Here we go again with Sunset's celebrations of the hippie drug culture from 50 years ago.

Yeah, 'any trick in the book'. Good choice, Sunset. No doubt you are sitting on your 'velvet throne' wishing you had an alligator farm in Florida.

Time for another session in rehab, first sergeant.

So Mr. Sunsett ... is it true you placed $200 on the Saints to win?

I can't watch the game tomorrow. Shit! The damn thing probably won't even get started till 2 am here. I have to work Monday morning but will try to get at least the first half.

My tailgate party will be comprised of camomille tea. Bah humbug!

So here is my prediction

Colts - 35
Saints 17

PS - I am taking numbers for next Friday's Euromillions draw. Any numbers from 1- 49 with 5 numbers maximum and 2 other numbers between 1 - 9. Jackpot about 175,00,000 USD Yes that's million.

Of course anyone selecting the correct number or numbers in case I win the jackpot will receive a prorata check sharing the prize.

Tom,

That's funny. I remember once when my daughter was a toddler, she has a bad dream about a scary bunny. Of course, I had taken her to a 4H Fair where they had rabbits the size of a cocker spaniel. No wonder.

Rocket,

Try these:

4-10-17-19-20

3-7

and

5-8-14-23-31

1-9

Not greedy here, just want enough to pay off bills and reasonably retire.

re: Euromillions lottery

Geez, there's one chance in 76,275,360 of winning the "gros lot". (grin)

That's about equivalent to calling a telephone number in Germany ... and reaching the person you wanted. '(wider grin)

Now, back to your regular programs ... (widest grin)

Sorry LA this and sorry LA that. Blah blah blah.

Just so AC cannot come back and say he never made this flawed prediction, I am reposting his entire comment where he cannot come back and delete it.

Let the record show.

Subversive Aspects of Popular Songs
By Kenneth Rexroth

Yes, OK, he was basically on the left. A cryptoanarchist with some redeeming qualities (grin). Much of his poetry and poetry-in-translation), as well as his commentary is of the very first rank

His comments make an extremely good read on this rainy Sunday afternoon in Paris, while waiting for the Super Bowl, which, as Rocket has pointed out, is broadcast at the ungodly hour of 02h00 …

/// Many people — philosophers, philosophers of history, sociologists, anthropologists — believe that our civilization is undergoing a great turn like the change that took place in human life with the invention of agriculture or the development of city living or the use of metals. At such times the meanings of life change and human relationships undergo far-reaching reorganization. Almost all students of the sciences of man agree that we are passing from an industrial, mechanical age to a technological one in which many of the values, the guiding principles, of our society are being totally changed from plus to minus and vice versa. Wholesale overturns like this show themselves in the arts and in religion, immediately after the changes in technology, usually well before changes in political structure, and in the social codes to which men cling long after they have become irrelevant. …/…

One then wades through a discussion of French poetry and song (non-francophiles can skip this (grin)) to arrive at more familiar protagonists: Elvis, Beatles, Rolling Stones, Doors …

Hi Amerloque, LA

As the advertising in France goes

"100% des gagnants ont tenté leur chance."

(100% of the winners tried their luck)

Now Amerloque, that we have gotten that out of they way.

Give me some numbers! and what's your prediction on tonight's game?

Note: the pro rata, in the event of a win, would be zero, since Amerloque hasn't paid anything to Rocket, no ? (grin)

SBowl:

What kind of spread is there in the office betting pools ? (grin)

Amerloque,

From the article you mention:

//The great secret, the difference between the straight world and the counterculture, is that the latter takes seriously the ethics of lyric poetry, in fact can be said to make a worldview of it. Whether that lyric poetry is sung by Japanese geishas, Chinese sing-song girls, black hustlers in New Orleans in 1910, or the displaced youth of 1941-1950 Paris who, if they had money, hung out in the cellars of the Latin Quarter and the Faubourg Saint-Germain and if they didn’t, slept under bridges, hustled up a bottle of cheap wine, huddled around a salamander (an oil-can stove), and sang till they were tired enough to make love and fall asleep under newspapers. It was from those who were literally outcasts from society, displaced persons, whether homeless European youth or hustlers in the black ghettoes of the United States, that the significant poem-songs, the whole idiom of direct communication, people poetry, has grown.//

First, it was my parents and later in my life, it was Mustang who told me the Beatles were communist heathen and rebels without a good cause. And now I see they have been keeping this from me all along. ;)

It's good to see that my generation was not the only counterculture in history. One thing about those so-called countercultures though, most of the participants end up part of the establishment later on, when they realize that peace, love, waterbeds, and Woodstock ideals will not pay bills. ;)

Thanks for the link.

Z,

For the life of me, I cannot understand how LA went from two teams to none....and stayed there for so long. All that money, you'd think they'd break down and build a new stadium.

-Rumor has it that the Jacksonville Jaguars want to relocate because Mustang and his neighbors will not support them.

Greg,

I am so ready for this game to be played and be over with, one way or the other. People here just get so oversaturated with this stuff. Today, I was forced to listen to such conjecture as to who will win the toss and what they would do if they won. Would they defer or would they take the ball?

That tells me it's time to play the damned game.

LA, LA, LA.. so little faith in my integrity. I'll have you know I don't have Robert Gibbs or anyone like him working on my behalf (unlike the multiple spokesmen defending Social Sense), so I'll have to live with my flub ups. Or at disappear for a few days.

Sorry AC. After dealing with Mustang so much, I get accustomed to seeing my words turned and used against me a lot (as well as the many multiple personalities who defend Orville B. Mustang III). So, it's only natural that I am suspicious of others who seek to make bold and dynamic predictions.

I should have known that you (of all people) would not be the kind to delete a prediction and seek for people to prove that you made it once it was known that it was wrong.

I'm with you LA. As Alain Shepard said in 1961 as he sat atop the Redstone rocket in his Mercury capsule after multiple delays before America's first manned space flight.

"Let's light this candle!"

22:30 here and still at least a two hour wait before toe touches pigskin and I'm fading fast.

Rocket,

When I was stationed in Germany many years ago, they carried the SB live on AFN. I remember those late 0030 kickoffs. It was good for morale to watch the game, so most of the units had their first formation at 1200. I doubt your job will be willing to do that for you and the other American work force in Paris.

I would support the NFL moving this thing to Saturday night. I have to get up at 0430, so I took a nap today (something I normally do not do).

I work for myself. Wouldn't have it any other way here!) Always have so I've simply informed my clients I would be a little late because of an urgent doctor's appointment.

I used to listen to the AFN on an old Grundig Shortwave when I moved to France in 77. From the Paris suburbs the sound would fade in and out and crackle and pop. Then a pay channel called Canal + had it on live starting in the mid 80's so since I didn't subscribe to that channel I had a box made specially for me so I could capture the signal if you know what I mean. The channel knew that people were ripping them off and put in extra security but later in the early 90's I think the Superbowl went on French national tv but in French commentary.

In 99 I could finally watch it on what is now known as ESPN America in good ole English.

NOW LET'S LIGHT THIS CANDLE!

You know LA, I'm starting to like this guy. Let's get him working for us over in Paris. High time we had an operation there. He gives us a share of his winnings from that Euro Lotto thingy and he gets a Sabatini franchise.

Rocket's prediction was good, only turned around a bit ... sorta.

But this means that SUNSETT is a big winner. Word is, he bet his entire savings on the Saints to win by two touchdowns.

What a gutsy guy ... and a damn backstabber. I hope we don't see him driving to work some morning when he LEAST expects it.

AC … Listen to this pap: “I should have known that you (of all people) would not be the kind to delete a prediction and seek for people to prove that you made it once it was known that it was wrong.”

Not long ago, Greg and I were drinking some suds at LA’s place and Greg asked, “So why isn’t AC here?” You should have heard the things Sunsett said. Horrible things. Inappropriate things. Both Greg and I protested this of course, and because of our loyalty to you, Sunset kicked us out of his house and told us never to come back.

AC you are free to believe what you want; you can trust Greg and I, or Sunset, who some people are saying bet against his own home team in the Super Bowl.
