Congressional Fool: Rep. James Clyburn

I know the words congressional and fool are repetitive these days. But still, I'd like to feature one of them in today's post and tell you all why I think it to be so. Take a look at our featured article:

Spending Our Way Out Of Recession

The U.S. government must spend its way out of the recession, the Democrats' third-ranking House leader stressed Monday.

Rep. James Clyburn (D-S.C.), the House majority whip, said that trying to find greater savings in the budget, which was released by President Barack Obama this morning, wouldn't help alleviate the recession.

"We've got to make some decisions here as to what's in the best interests of our country going forward," Clyburn said during an appearance on Fox News. "And I think the best interest is to invest in education, control these deficits, while at the same time trying to get people back to work."

I wonder, does anyone ever stop for a moment and think about the spending being the CAUSE of the recession? At least at this point in the game, we see that not much has improved thus far, yet we are still hearing clarion calls for more, more, more.

But that's not the half of the stupidity, as Clyburn further states:

1. We must spend on education. Great idea, we'll have the most educated unemployed workforce in the world.

2. We must control the deficits. Another great one Jimmy. Let's just keep spending more money and we'll be sure to get those deficits down. While we are at it, why don't increase the debt limit again, just to be sure we will have enough money to pay the lobbyists and contributors that have you on their payroll. GE is one of the top contributors.

3. At the same time, we must increase jobs. How's that working, Jimmy? We have 26,000,000 people out of work right now, that's close to 18%. I know that the unemployment rolls are showing 10%, but 8% have lost their unemployment compensation and have stopped looking for credible employment. You can't say they don't exist.

Bottom line here, James Clyburn (D-SC) is a fool. And so are those who think we can spend our way out of a recession with government money. This includes 2/3 of our legislative body.

He is but one of many, but he is one their mouthpieces. So let's celebrate the idiotic statements of the Current House Majority Whip, shall we?

You didn't read close enough. He doesn't want to spend, he wants to "invest". The Dems are no longer tax and spend, they are tax and invest. You must not have gotten the memo ;)

Coming from someone who went from about 80K a year to barely over 20K (unemployment is just great, eh?) I would say that what this Congress and POTUS has done is actively work toward destroying the "middle class" and the free market. You are right Sunsett, investing in education will only make the serfs in this country "unemployed scholars". I remember laughing at Obozo's "shovel ready job talk"!!! Yeah, like I went to school and did all the training I've done over the years to make my living with a shovel!!!!

The so called leaders in the USA are blithering idiots!!! Given how many of them are infused into our governing body, how many blithering idiot voters do you suppose we have here in the "land of the freaks" anyway????

The gov't could possibly spend money on things that would help. For example, "investing in education" could mean job training to help people transition to an in-demand field of work. Unfortunately, we know that the money will likely go to something useless, like a DOE study of the effects of global warming on workplace morale.

Also, there is zero recognition in Congress that their wasteful spending and associated deficits are really hurting the middle class. The decline of the dollar is directly related to this issue, and this means less buying power for Americans. The dollar has gone dangerously low, and crushing inflation will happen sooner or later.

Finally, the gov't never creates anything other than a gov't job. It can't create a real job that generates wealth.

I wish these obvious rules of nature would penetrate the rock-hard skulls of our politicians.

I don't know how anyone in their right mind could believe the crap that spews from our government officials, especially when it comes to the economy and jobs. The only thing they know how to do to "remedy" the situation is to play games with the numbers. You never get a realistic number of those who are out of work, you never get a realistic number of the children "left behind" by our public school system. And most of all...the national debt means nothing to them because all they have to do is raise the debt ceiling and keep printing more money.

I truly believe that this country is on the brink of collapse, and when that happens, it will be too late to pull ourselves out of it any time soon. It's not going to be like the Great Depression, IMO. I think it's going to be worse.

So there...that's my groundhog doomsday prediction...and to make it worse, there will be six more weeks of winter. Goody.

Chuck has it figured out … it’s only semantics. Tax and invest … of course, no broker in their right mind would encourage investment in a bankrupt system, but no one ever accused Congress of having brains. Anyone who says the words, “Invest in education …” ought to be summarily executed because he or she is beyond socially acceptable idiocy. If these nitwits want to spend our way out of recession, then why not do the FDR thing … let’s start World War III … BAM! We’ll have 100% employment, and the communists can nationalize all industries. Isn’t that where they are headed now?

Mustang out

Mustang is quite correct. The agenda is control everything... just think GM and Chrysler... they got started right out of the gate!

I will admit, that having a Republican Governor, some of the stimulus dollars were directed to giving unemployed persons access to some excellent online training that I am taking advantage of, but that is a Red State for ya!!!

I am on their list, but it's not their MAILING list.

But think of the better quality dinner party conversations the unemployed will now be able to have.

With GE being one of Jimmy's top contributors, this is not so far-fetched.

If he pushes and gets passed legislation mandating green behaviors that will require green technology, sales for GE will go up because of demand. If demand goes up, they will need green educated robots to meet the labor demands of GE once they start turning out their crap in higher numbers.

It's the Democrats business cycle and it is based on mandating supply and demand. What's that sound like?

AND they fudge on numbers like "jobs saved". How can you objectively measure a job that was "saved"? By Obama standards this is a real category that is overlooked. But those of us who see through the BS, it's BS.

Maybe they figure the people were stupid enough to keep re-electing them, so what the hell? Let's just keep saying stupid stuff and they'll never know the difference. They may find out real soon just how many have caught onto their little ruse.

I imagine Clyburn's district is safe for him, due to gross misconduct from gerrymandering so that black South Carolinians will have a voice in DC. But a wholesale shift is coming in other areas of the country and if enough boot out their Democratic representation, those very blacks will not have as effective of representation as they do now. Remember, this guy is one of the chiefest of race baiting, let's give something for nothing, spokesman in the legislation.

As Greg said earlier, hopefully that money is being used to re-train in those jobs that are in high demand.

The lib'ruls are frustrated. They finally got control of everything and the pesky wars, terrorists, and a huge deficit keep getting in the way of their Nirvana. We are seeing some serious denial here, IMHO.

I think you have a good point. It's easy to sit back and criticize others when they have the responsibility to lead. But when those armchair critics get a chance to do something, they tend to screw it up.

The Dems did that for 8 years, criticizing Republicans for everything that was wrong. Now, they are in control and they are screwing up at an even faster rate. They know it, and they are seeing just how powerless they are to do anything reasonably substantial about it.

This is why they persist on still blaming every one of their failures on Bush.
