Open Thread Thursday

I was out late Christmas shopping last evening and didn't have the chance to come up with anything of any real value for today. The next couple of days are going to be very hectic, as well.

So, politics, culture, sports, or whatever are all fair game here. Pick a topic and go to it.

As always, thanks for reading PYY.

Got a kick out of your back-&-forth yesterday on S-F about Israel. Americans think the French hate them, but they should be thankful they aren't Israeli! A large segment of the population (majority?) describe themselves as "anti-zionist," which I presume means they don't think Israel should exist. Then they lecture us about our "one-sidedness" in favor of Israel. Pot, meet kettle.

Speaking of the French, have you heard of this rumor being reported in French media that they twice had OBL in their gun-sights, but the American commander never gave the order to shoot? What do you make of this?

Greg,

Note the one guy, kes, who comes from China. He seems to think he is an authority on just about everything. His country's government lies to its citizenry on just about everything and he had the audacity to call me a liar.

How funny is that?

No I hadnt heard about the Frnech Osama story, when i get time I will have to look into it.

Oh, I didn't realize he was from China. Boy, he seemed pretty angry! Of course, nothing you said was a lie. Perhaps some is open to debate. Actually, speaking of liars, you might be interested in this letter to the editor in today's paper, about Jimmy Worst-X-President-Ever Carter.

Greg,

Yeah, he seemed quite preturbed to say the least. I would have unleashed on him had it been my blog, but I didn't want to disrespect SF, by doing it on his.

But the best thing is, no one seemed to rush to his defense. You and I have had many battles with the regulars there, but never hjas anyone called me a liar. I may be wrong, I may be misinformed, misguided or just plain ignorant. But I am not a liar.

His view of Jimmy Peanut is very maligned and certainly misguided.

LASunsett, sorry to hear you were called a liar. As far as I can tell, this accusation has been rampant on the Internet. I don't know; is it the anonymity that makes people so unreal, or do some take themselves more seriously than warranted?

Anyhow, since I was the one who mentioned Jimmy Carter's book a couple of times, maybe I should read it, too. I am disturbed and equally intrigued by the categorical rejections towards Carter and his book. Also I am not impressed by Alan Dershowitz's letter or his ad hominem style.

Yeah, well, it comes with the territory. It's easy to sit behind a keyboard an ocean away and insult people. I have the rare ability to ignore people that act that way.

A rule of thumb is, if I banter with someone, I respect them. If I don't....then, I don't.

I noticed your ability to ignore people with ill manners. Amazing. I couldn't myself let go that easily. Does this ability come with becoming a grandpa? Should I wait?

Anonim,

Somewhat.

But I think that it comes more with being at peace with one's self. Some call that arrogance. I call it confidence. There is a distinct difference between the two.
