Making A Bed

The easy part is over. Now, the monumental task of governing will begin. I hope Mr. Obama recognizes the fact that 47% of the people did not support him and to win their support in his endeavors, he will need to govern from the center. If he does not, he will age quickly, because the 47% that did not support him will swell to 57%, as quickly as he rose to fame.

From here on out, when I hear someone complain about the difficulties they face and the government that does nothing about it, I will be asking them who they voted for in this election. I do not want to hear whining about the state someone is in, when it was once in the power of their hands to do something about it.

So to all the leftists that are celebrating today, remember well that this is the bed you made. Now, you must sleep in it. The people will be watching, and his every move will be highly scrutinized.

Hello LAS !

At the very least, what America has today is a newly-elected President –

- who has admitted in public that he is a muslim, then retracted it:

http://tinyurl.com/6grfwy

and

- who apparently doesn’t even know how many states there are in the United States of America :

http://tinyurl.com/6cp7qs

As the French say : "ça promet !" (rough equivalence: “you ain’t heard/seen nothin’ yet !”)

Now, off the top of his head, if Amerloque were strategizing to help the Republican Party regain power in 2008, he suggests:

- sparing no effort to put Obama’s certificate of live birth before the American public. This issue must be resolved. (Also, if necessary, fill suitcases with cash and go to Kenya to purchase his Kenyan birth certificate, if it exists. Of course, perhaps the Democrats have already gone there with cash to ensure that the certificate no longer exists …).

- delegating and paying a task force to count column inches in nationally significant newspapers and magazines to produce a total, as well as reporting media airtime for Barack Obama and John McCain. The enduring intellectual fiction of a “balanced press” must be demonstrated and destroyed, once and for all.

Obviously the GOP should also immediately and in the short term be:

- preparing to counter possible Supreme Court nominees;

-preparing ripostes to subversive legislation, from whatever quarter;

- preparing to purchase one major broadcasting network: either CBS, NBC, or ABC;

- envisaging and preparing to fight amendments to the United States constitution which would change that document forever;

- making sure that any and all Republican candidates have acted honorably in the past; and

- preparing one or more presidential hopefuls with little past, like Obama.One cannot criticize what doesn’t exist;

It’s blindingly clear that the Democrats, in order to produce a winning campaign, carefully analyzed the Republican 2000 and 2004 campaigns, and adopted the most effective actions. It is also clear that they learned quite a few tricks from the White House / State Department activities and media relationships in the interval from 9/11 to the invasion of Iraq.

Finally – and this should not be dismissed as idle chatter or facetious speculation – the GOP should recruit and form two teams (25+ members each) of jokewriters to write jokes about Barack Obama, his wife Michelle, the Democratic Party, and individual Democrats, and then begin pumping out jokes continually for the foreseeable future. It is Amerloque’s considered opinion that the manifestly anti-McCain/Palin partisan positions of SNL, the David Letterman Show, the Jay Leno Show, the Conan O’Obrien show and “The Daily Show” contributed mightily to the Republican defeat, since those programs are what many, many Americans watch. Jokes travel to the dinner table, schools, sports groups, and so forth far more quickly and easily than genuine negative information. Ridicule can be used as a formidable political weapon: just ask John McCain and Sarah Palin.

I will be curious to see, how Obama will be treated compared to George Bush. Oh, that's right, we are talking about conservatives and liberals. No need to answer.

Great comment, l'Amerloque. One wonders what the Colbert Report and the Daily Show are going to do now. They're like a retailer who's been making a living selling anti-Bush apparel for the past 8 years; only those two shows can't just switch merchandise.

Fox News will probably be a natural beneficiary of this election cycle. People want real information and good investigative journalism, not pro-administration talking points. News consumers will speak with their remote controls.

I'm also looking forward to perhaps some interviews with his family (too bad the racist grandma died before we could hear from her) and his friends from Chicago, all of whom were in an undisclosed location for the entire duration of the campaign.

Some of his supporters have already spoken. Hamas launched missiles into Israel today, and Czar Putin stationed missiles on the border with Poland.

It's interesting now. But wait until people start losing their jobs at the same time inflation is making comeback. 15% is a somewhat round number, bet no one's wages go up that much, that fast.

Just one?

In fact Greg, let me say something else about the weapon thing. The family that defends their domicile together, stays together.

Uncle Mustang will be available after the holidays to properly train you to turn your home into an effective fortress, and fire your weapons efficiently. We are booking now.

Amerloque my friend,

I agree with you about 99%. The trouble is, no one cared about it, judges threw out the lawsuits. And as a result, it turned out to be of little-to-no consequence.

Like Greg said, Putin and Hamas sent a welcome message to the new President-Elect, today. The stock market sent one too. Biden was right, he will be tested by anyone that wants leverage with the new President.

A lot of promises have been made here, and there is no way he can keep them all. When the honeymoon is over, someone will be getting mad. When they find out a $500 rebate (that they never paid to begin with) will not send someone's kids to college, or then they discover it will not feed a family for more than two weeks, someone is going to have a serious attitude problem.

The press eventually turned on Carter and Clinton. They were utterly brutal to LBJ, he deserved a lot of it too.

There will be a honeymoon for some time. But after he screws things up so bad, they will eventually have to report the big news, good or bad. There is no more vetting process necessary now, the election is over. His vetting will come for all to see and not even the media will be able to help.

Maybe we should all catch a case of glaucoma and head to MI. If didn't have a real life with real world responsibility, it would help me forget the next fore years.

Regarding "delegating and paying a task force to count column inches in nationally significant newspapers and magazines etc..." mentioned by l'amerloque, Scientific American reports a study that does some of that.

// Despite popular accounts, researchers found that Barack Obama got more negative press coverage than John McCain did in the early summer //

What does early summer have to do with the last weeks of an election. That is what the people remember. The last days.

Hello Bruno !

Amerloque extends his thanks for the link !

As Rocket (Hi Rocket ! comment va ?) clearly points out above, the study referred to stopped quite early: looks like February, 2008 to Amerloque. As Bruno says, it’s only “some” …

Now, looking further into this Center for Media and Public Affairs (CMPA) mentioned in the referenced article, one can read, in a press release dated 30 October 2008:

///Networks Differ In Their Election Coverage

NBC, CBS Most Pro-Democratic; ABC, FOX Most Balanced

…/...

The study finds that the three broadcast networks combined have given twice as much good press to the Democratic presidential and vice-presidential candidates as they have to the Republicans, and only FOX has given better press to the GOP ticket than to the Democrats. ///

http://tinyurl.com/56yqtw

Well, how about that ! (grin)

Finally, one can speculate over Scientific American’s decision to publish the study in its November, 2008 issue.

Cynics might even say that publishing on that date ensures that no much attention will be paid to the study at all, since the background noise concerning the election would assuredly drown out the article. (grin)

Re: Obama birth certificate:

/// … The trouble is, no one cared about it, judges threw out the lawsuits. And as a result, it turned out to be of little-to-no consequence. ///

One might surmise that one or two underfinanced private individuals have far less legal clout than, say, a well-financed post facto investigating committee with voluble press attachés pushing to “clear up scurrilous and possibly untrue rumors concerning the President of the United States’ citizenship, for the good of the Republic”.

Why, congressmen and senators could even be solicited to speak to the issue on the floors of Congress. (smile)

This is a far more important issue than, say, Billy Clinton’s adventures with cigars, in Amerloque's view.

Well, if Amerloque were running Republican strategy, he would open a website with a mailing list, just like MoveOn. Can't rely on well-intentioned bloggers for this one ...

Every day, a post should be made and sent that shows that everything bad that happens in the next four years is Obama's fault.

Every little dam' thing. Every day. Kinda like what happened the past four years ...

It's an excellent strategy. It took two cycles for Move On to get their man in, but they did it. There are some conservative organizations that do that very thing.

I signed up with Townhall, because Mustang pulled rank and made me. (I exited a buck sergeant, he exited a light colonel.)I signed up with Human Events to get to an article that was available to members only. I get tons of e-mails from both of them.

Hi LAS !

Re: MoveOn, Townhall

Yes, Amerloque has been on the mailing list of Townhall for quite a while … and on MoveOn’s, too (remember Sun T’zu’ advice ?)

In Amerloque’s view, there’s simply too much coming out of Townhall, which appears basically to be an aggregator for articles and blogs from everywhere. One must spend quite a bit of time looking for what one is interested in. The tons of emails are a bit overwhelming (at least, that has been Amerloque’s mileage …). Information overload, perhaps ?

The MoveOn mailings, on the other hand, are concise, targeted:

“Adam, Michael, Ray, Andrea and the rest of the team" seem to be coordinating volunteer work (phoning, canvassing, meetings) ;

“Anna, Patrick S., Michael, Ray and the rest of the team” appear to be doing the same thing, as are "Justin, Michael, Matt, Andrea and the rest of the team";

“Nita, Eli, Carrie, Karin and the rest of the team” are involved in fundraising/donations;

“Peter, Ilyse, Daniel, Andrea and the rest of the team” are on the same ‘soliciting-donations’ team;

“Noah, Joan, Marika, Ilyse and the rest of the team” appear to be focusing on disinformation, hyperbole, and rebuttal;

"Ilyse" seems to be a key player.

At various times, "star-quality" messages are sent. Al Franken, Ted Kennedy, Elizabeth Edwards, Al Gore, for example.

At the beginning of 2008 messages were being received at three-day intervals, which naturally went to one-day intervals as Election Day approached.

Analyzing what worked in the past frequently can determine future action, in Amerloque's humble view. An example might be the Democrats’ activities in this election.

L’Amerloque
