Monday AM QB

Here are the games I got to watch part or all of, this past weekend:

Colts 18 - Pats 15

This game was nothing but two wounded lions going after each other. This game just didn't have the same intensity as in games past. There wasn't much too pretty about this game, except the Colts defense was much improved. The Colts had more of a sense of urgency than the Pats, as the Pats are still tied for their division lead.

Giants 35 - Cowboys 14

The Giants are the complete package in big games. The loss to Cleveland helped them from getting big heads, and they seemed to be more than adequately prepared. They certainly took nothing for granted, with a hobbled Dallas team. I think they stand a good chance of meeting Tennessee in the Super Bowl, if things keep progressing on their present paths.

In the NCAA:

I was able to see the vast majority of the Texas - Texas Tech game, Saturday night. TT had the Longhorns' number on this night. They were bigger, stronger, and dominated the line of scrimmage most of the night. But give Texas credit, they came back and even led by a point, before the Red Raiders sewed it up at the end.

TT cannot relax, they still have Oklahoma St. and Oklahoma left on their schedule. If they beat those two, there should be no doubt who should be in the BCS Championship Game. Lot of season left, but I do think the Big 12 has dethroned the SEC as the best conference in college football.

How about your teams? How did they do?

We need a big Redskin win tonight.

Pats-Colts: Belichick made a couple of questionable decisions, which I think are due to the need to take more risk. You can't count on Cassel to make a big play for you, so you try to grab a first down with a coach's challenge, eg. It really comes down to the QB. If you want to beat the good teams like Indy, you need a good QB, and the Pats don't have one. It's not enough to simply "not make mistakes." The difference in the game was Peyton Manning. He can make the plays to carry his team to victory.

Giants-Cowboys: Giants continue to get lucky, finally facing a great team, but only when that team is badly injured. Maybe the Giants make it to the Asterisk Bowl this year. Who cares?

Jets-Bills: I'm still not sure how the Jets won this game so easily. Favre kept trying to lose the game, as he usually does, but somehow managed to make enough big plays (there's that theme again). The Bills faced their first division opponent and crapped the bed.

GB-Titans: GB should have won. Great teams seem to find a way to make one more big play. For Tenn, it was on defense. If this were last year's Patriots, the pundits would be yelling "Blueprint!," b/c clearly the Titans are beatable. Any team that can stretch the field and score points can beat Tennessee.

Dallas may have been a great team but they are certainly not this year and that's all that counts.

Even if you hate the Giants you have to admit that they ran all over the Cowboys.

rocket: I'll concede that the Cowboys' injuries had nothing to do with their inability to stop the Giants' offense. However, at full strength, the Cowboys make it a very close game.

Let's look at their opponents so far. St. Louis, Seattle, Cinci, Cleveland, San Fran. All terrible. Last week, they lose to the Steelers, but the Steelers decide they'd rather let the Giants win and literally throw the game away. Dallas is great with Romo; crappy with Brad Johnson. They did manage to beat the Redskins - barely - but I don't remember the game details. Simply put, the Giants haven't beat anyone good yet (except maybe the Redskins in week 1).

In fact, aside from division games, they don't play anyone good all year. Next week is the first of 2 meetings with Phillie. Phillie is good. The Giants will lose. Even lousy Baltimore may beat them the week after that. And I don't see them beating the Redskins twice.

Also, injuries are inevitable. The Giants have been lucky so far. Their luck is bound to run out. I hope they lose one of the big-name guys.

Not that I don't understand what you are saying, because I really do. But the interesting thing to note is simple. We have Peyton, the team is 4-4. You don't have Brady, the team is 5-3. The Colts are four games out of first, the Pats are tied for first and have a realistic chance at winning the division.
