Monday AM QB

Honestly, I only watched a half a quarter of the Jets-Titans game, that's all the football I had time for yesterday. And the Jets were taking it to them. Like I have said in past posts, it's awfully hard to win out in the NFL and it's best to lose one earlier, than later. It will be interesting to see how Tennessee responds. Will they get right back on the bicycle or will they fold up?

Didn't see the Colts game, which I see they won, over the malevolent SD Chargers. It's always nice to see the Chargers lose, especially when it's against my team. At 4-7, mathematically they still have a chance in their weak division. But in reality, their season is a bust.

So, how about your team? We've seen the scores, how did they look?

I didn't get to see the Jets game, as my game was at the same time. The Patriots basically crushed the Dolphins, exposing them for what they are: a slight improvement over the 1 win team they were last year. Were it not for the 14 points off turnovers the Patriots handed the Fins, the score would have reflected a real blowout. Talk radio this morning is all about Matt Cassel for MVP, and what can we get if we trade Brady. Puleeze!

Too bad the Jets won, b/c that makes it real hard for the Patriots to stay alive in the playoff race. If the season ends today, they don't make it. The Colts have a real easy schedule to end the regular season, and they own a tiebreaker against the Pats, so they are pretty much a lock. The Ravens have to play Washington, Pittsburgh and Dallas. The Patriots have already had a 2 week trip to the west coast, and have to do it again the week after next (Seattle & Oakland). Other than that, they have to play Pittsburgh, Arizona and finish at Buffalo. Not easy, and they will essentially have to win every game.

It's still hard to accept my team might not even make the playoffs....

Maybe you could shed some light on this, Greg. I ran upon a guy from Maine while I was in FLA, last weekend. he said Brady was having trouble with infections. Cassel may be more valuable than you think, if this is the case.

MRSA infections are common in ortho surgeries, scar tissue can form, and the knee never really heal properly.

You have to admit, with two back-to-back 400 yd performances, he's better than you thought he was. But you are also right about Brady. he brings the unknown factor, the calmness/coolness, the rock steady element that Montana always brought to the Niners, back in the day. (I call him the Montana of this era)

Six more games. A lot can happen in six games in the NFL.

LAS: all I know is that Brady has had several infections in his knee and that they have had to go in, I think, 3 more times since the initial surgery. He's now back in Foxborough (there was video of Gisele all over him at a Boston restaurant) and working out with the team. As usual, no information leaks from Foxborough, so that's all we know. No idea if he'll be ready by August.

As for Cassel, it turns out that Belichick and Pioli know more about picking talent than I. I know, it's hard to accept, but.... Funny think with Cassel - he's a free agent at the end of the year. If the Patriots want to franchise him, it will cost a cool $15 mil for one year! But if Brady isn't ready in time, then what? It could be a real problem. I would obviously take Brady over Cassel any day. Too bad they didn't sign Cassel long term before the season. Then they would be in a position to trade him for draft picks....

As for the playoffs, yes, a lot can happen in 6 games, but the Colts are basically in, barring disaster. Patriots fans have to focus on the Ravens, and hope they lose 2-3 games.

Watched most of the second half of the Titans game. They were still in it til FavRey made that thread-the-needed TD pass.

You're right, it will be interesting to see how they respond. Fisher will not let them get too high or too low if he can help it, so I think they'll be ready to play this week. People are still not believing in them yet, which is often a good motivator.

Baltimore has Cincinnati as the only patsy team left on their schedule. They still have Washington, Pittsburgh, Dallas, and Jacksonville.

Skins will need the win, they will show up. Pitt will play hard with the division at stake. Dallas will need the win, and the Jags will be playing for pride at that point, which will make them dangerous. If the Ravens get the final WC over NE, they will have to earn it and I am not sold on them being a playoff contender.

NE has to play Pitt and Ariz at home, with Sea, Oak, and Buf, on the road. Potentially, the Pats could run the table. How they handle the Steelers defense will tell me the story. but they are at home and the Pats do well with the crowd behind them, in big games.

Fisher is a good coach. Tenn has a pretty easy schedule from here on out, so I cannot see them losing too many more. That's where coaching comes in, and the need for the players to focus on each and every game like it's a playoff game.

Up next for the Titans is Detroit. On paper, it would appear they have this one wrapped up but the Lions are winless. Their championship game is Thursday (if they can beat Tenn). They are always dangerous on Thanksgiving, in addition to being very hungry for their first win. It won't be an easy one, unless Fisher can get the Titans motivated.
