News In Brief (And The Usual Opinionated Commentary)

Dow Continues To Drop

Stocks are mostly priced on speculation, with perceptions of the buyers as one of the driving forces. The prospect of an Obama presidency must not be setting well with speculators, right now. Not that the office of the President can single-handedly effect it, but confidence in the new economic policies can certainly stabilize things enough, at least for a period. But this doesn't appear to be happening right now.

Hillary Reportedly Still Weighing Sec'y Of State Opportunity

I am still having trouble believing she wants this. She surrenders an awful amount of autonomy, as a subordinate in an Obama cabinet. Senators answer to no one, except the people of the state they represent. (And even that is a joke, because the worst of them keep getting re-elected.)

Inauguration Could Break DC

At a time when the economy is not sound and costs of nearly everything have risen exponentially, one would think prudence would reign supreme. But apparently we must show the world how grand this occasion, by making a grandiose and histrionic statement. This says much, right here.

I am really hoping Hillary does not take the Sec/State job. I want her in the Senate giving 0bama a hard time. BTW, when exactly is 0bama going to hire a non-Clintonite? Doesn't he know anyone? Oh, that's right.... He ran as a moderate Republican after the nomination, stealing all of McCain's policy positions; now he's going to copy the Clinton presidency. This guy, I'm convinced, has never had an original thought. He has no principles, only unbounded ambition.

As for the Obamapalooza Inauguration, is this surprising? We've seen the guy's gargantuan ego on display for a couple of years now. It's certain to get worse now that he's the most powerful man in the world. Ugh. Screw this guy.

If Hillary accepts SecState, it will be the end of her political career. Not to worry, she'll still make skillions on the lecture tour. Damn lawyers.

The person I feel sorry for is whoever ends up as Joe Biden's press secretary. Talk about a 24/7 job! Every one of the press releases will begin with "What the Vice President meant to say . . ."

Take a look at Z's blog today. Interesting post and discussion about Wal-Mart. A drop in the DOW is only the surface of our economic problems; its too bad we have so many idiots in Congress, eh?

The inauguration can't break DC; they're a federal city. Now I do think DC has a lot of problems, but nothing that a "Chicago Fire" wouldn't resolve.

Hi !

What is the current thinking regarding the recent spate of 'pirate' attacks and a resurgence of Al Quaïda ? Really 'pirates', or something far more nefarious ?

Best,

LOL. Does the Air Force have any napalm bombs in storage?

l'Amerloque, I think the pirate thing has been going on for a while, slowly getting worse, and now the press is starting to pay attention. There is only a loose link b/w the al-Qaeda linked islamist crazies in the capital. In the north where the pirates are, I read that it is like the Bahamas of the 18th century: gambling, brothels, bars, cantines that sell pirate-related merchandise like eye-patches and rum ;).

I do think it's something to keep our eye on. Al Qaeda has surely noticed that this is a good way to make a lot of money quick.

All I can say is, get ready for the coronation.

He's going to make the comedy writers' jobs a lot easier after Jan 20.

Like Greg says, it's probably been going on for awhile, but the press is just now starting to notice. Like shark attacks that happen every year, unless the media gets on the bandwagon and reports it, people many times assume it isn't happening.
