Use Caution, But Save The Panic

The swine flu has many people in a panic right now and to some to degree it's easy to see why. Anytime there are deaths from an outbreak of some illness and talk of a worldwide pandemic, it's going to cause some apprehension.

The UN is in scare mode. Europe is advising its citizens to avoid the Americas, Russia is screening all flights coming in from the same. But the U.S. is basically yawning. Why?

The confirmed U.S. cases included 28 at a private high school in New York City, 11 in California, six in Texas, two in Kansas and one in Ohio. Only one American case has led to a hospitalization.

(Emphasis mine)

That's right, only one case has been hospitalized so far. Despite the deaths reported in Mexico, none have occurred here. This is most likely due to the very poor medical care in Mexico. If one cannot stay hydrated or have access to Tylenol for high fevers, there is a much greater risk of severity.

So, be on guard. But let's not take this too far like the UN, Europe, and Russia are doing. If you get it, treat it like any other flu.

Stay away from others, stay hydrated, and monitor your fever. It will run its course eventually. Remember that a little fever is good. It is a natural infection fighting response by the body. It will kill the virus faster, if you allow it. Most physicians won't get too worried if it is kept below 101 degrees. Tylenol, Ibuprofen, and plenty of water are the keys to keeping fevers under control.

(If you want to have something to worry about, let it be something like this.)

Wait a minute - poor health care in Mexico? I though Cuba, Mexico, etc. had better health care than we did? I'll need to get back to the 'experts' at the old blog I can't stand.

Meanwhile the OIC says don't call it the swine flu - call it the "North American Flu." phew. Good thing the UN is there to protect us.

ARGGHH! The FLU is BAD ENOUGH...I KNEW I shouldn't have started my day by clicking on "Something like this!" (great piece, though, isn't it...)

We're spending millions trying to figure out how to stop the smell of pigs in pig sties; could this slow down our swine flu detection capabilities? I mean, if you can't SMELL it.........
never mind.

The term is misleading. Swine Flu doesn't come from pigs, it is transmitted via people. Evidence that most people do not know that is clear considering the sudden drop in demand for pork, corn, and soy beans. This probably explains how Ă˜bama got into the White House.

One NYC congressman argued today that the issue of "pandemic" is quite simply one of national security. If we worship at the alter of trans-nationalism, if we refuse to control our borders, then we cannot possibly protect our people from pandemic infection. Naturally, the neo-socialist Shepard Smith shouted him down; "This is not about illegal immigration!"

I am constantly reminded that we are surrounded by dummies and ill-timing. Didn't the savior visit Mexico recently?

Why is the WHO telling America to leave their borders open?

Wait ... wrong question. Why is America listening to the WHO?

Wait ... why am I asking you?

I swear someone reported today that an Israeli American said he thought the SWINE FLU name should be changed out of sensitivity to muslims and Jews who don't eat pork.

I swear. I wish I'd caught his name but I was too busy trying to keep sane. Lately, that takes a lot more attention than it used to.

Yes, the subject was reported on one French TV station yesterday morning (Tuesday). The all-news channel LCI switched from the French equivalent of "swine flu" to "Mexican flu."

The Daily Telegraph (London) this morning (Wednesday) has a story on the issue.

/// Swine flu: Israel row over non-kosher virus name

Israel will continue to use the name Swine Flu for the deadly virus sweeping the world despite religious calls for it to be rebranded Mexican Flu.

Deputy health minister Yakov Litzman, a member of an ultra-religious party, said "swine flu " should not be used as it contains the name of the animal banned by Judaism.

Instead he said the authorities should call the virus sweeping the globe "Mexican flu."

That, however, did not sit well with either Mexico's ambassador to Israel nor the Jewish state's envoy to Mexico. .../... ///

Al Jazeera International (in English) reported it, without reference to the Koran or the Muslim religion.

Dunno about the USA, though.
