Thompson, Giuliani In A Dead Heat

Statistically speaking, Rudy Giuliani and Fred Thompson are even. So says an LA Times/Bloomberg poll and so says a Rasmussen poll.

From the LAT:

Former New York Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani holds first place in the survey, with support from 27% of the Republicans and independents who said they plan to vote in the party's 2008 primaries.

But Thompson, an actor who played a prosecutor on NBC's "Law & Order," runs just behind, with 21%. Indications are he will join the race within the next month.

From Rasmussen comes this extra tidbit of information:

A week ago, Giuliani had a six percentage point lead over Thompson, 23% to 17%.

Now it's tied at 24%. And he hasn't even spent a dime.

This is just an illustration of how bad the Republican field is. Conservatives are willing to throw their support behind a guy who hasn't even announced yet, who did nothing while in Congress, who before that was a congressional lobbyist, and whose only real claim to fame is his TV character.

Looks like, as usual, I will be going to vote in 2008 with my nose pinched and my fingers crossed.
