Democratic Backlash At Libby Sentence Commutation

Yesterday, President Bush exercised his broad and unreviewable power, granted to him in Article II of the U.S. Constitution to pardon and commute sentences, to commute the sentence of Scooter Libby. Today, if you make the rounds of left-wing blogs you will see that anger is abound.

It starts something like this.

Then, after a person has stewed on it long enough, it advances to something like this.

Tomorrow, who knows?

But in all of the Left's rage and anger, they are forgetting something. There is a list, somewhere, that is not part of the rational debate process.

I had it somewhere.

Oh yes.

Here it is:

Pardons Granted By President Clinton (1993-2001)

So, Bush commutes one sentence (doesn't pardon, mind you) and he's labeled, Satan. Clinton does it on a wide and massive scale, and there's a deafening silence.

Can anyone truly see why I think the majority of the Democratic Party is mired in hypocrisy? The Democratically-led Congress's poll numbers are the worst in poll history right now. There's a reason for this and part of it stems from their blatant hypocrisy. The other part stems from their broken promises.

I do not know how I feel about Libby's commutation. On one hand, I am not sure I like it. But when you look at the fact that others that are less than innocent in the entire affair are walking free, it doesn't seem so unreasonable. It's damn sure more reasonable than pardoning members of a terrorist organization and cocaine dealers. But that's just my opinion.

The only hypocrits I know are people like you who think the rule of law doesn't apply to Republicans. I see you're using the right wing talking points and whining about Clinton's pardons.

If you look at this, LA...with open eyes, you will see that the commute of the sentence is telling Americans that Bush knows that Scooter is guilty, but he shouldn't have to serve any time because Bush has no respect for the justice system, the judge or the jury who say through all the deliberations and made their decision. Even though ANOTHER judge held up the ruling on appeal, Bush...the decider, decided that the RULE OF LAW DOES NOT APPLY TO THE CORRUPT THUGS IN THE WHITE HOUSE. Who woulda thunk it, eh?

Nice neo-con talking points, LA, but they only show what hypocrits the Republicans and their supporters are.

Wow, that's a long list of pardons. What's with all the drug runners and mail thieves? Isn't that odd?

Anyway, I for one think the commutation is good. Because there should be equality of punishment. Clinton was caught perjuring himself in a politically-motivated witchunt in which none of the initial underlying allegations were true. And he served no jail time. Neither should Libby, who did little if anything wrong, and was the scapegoat in a similar political witchunt.

On a general note, I wonder what the history of the pardon/commutation power is. Certainly, it's open to abuse. I wonder why it was included in the Constitution....

ME,

This is uncalled for and I am asking you to refrain from personal name-calling on my blog. Say what you want about my argument, say what you want about the Right, the GOP, and others you disagree with in general. But do not diss me on my blog. I do not call you names ever and will tolerate you doing such to me.

Here is something that may shed a little light on the subject. It starts off with Clinton's pardons, but you can scroll down and see more about other Presidents.

Don't forget that several on the jury were quoted as saying they "wouldn't mind" if Libby were pardoned. Guess that makes them evil neocons now.

There are people who think that anyone that doesn't agree with their particular view of the world, are neo-cons. Anytime you criticize those that they revere as champions of their cause, they accuse you of being a neo-con. It's nothing more than a blatant display of intolerance and quite frankly, I am sick of it.
