Lieberman Draws Democrats' Ire

From the AP comes this report:

Joe Lieberman is fast becoming the Democrats' public enemy No. 1.

The four-term Connecticut senator, who came tantalizingly close to being Al Gore's vice president in 2000, not only has been campaigning for his pal, presumed Republican nominee John McCain, now he's publicly criticizing the Democrats' standard-bearer, Barack Obama. Lieberman has strayed before, most notably switching from Democrat to independent in 2006 to hold onto his Senate seat after a Democratic primary loss.

But the latest betrayal has upset Democrats, who often answer in clipped but polite tones when asked about Lieberman. The reason: The independent still caucuses with the Democrats on most issues except the Iraq war, and he holds their slim political majority in his hands.

The last time I checked, it was the Democratic party that betrayed Joe Lieberman. Upset with Lieberman's support of Iraq, they picked a primary fight with him by propping up a multi-millionaire anti-war party hack, a Kossack that had support from the George Soros sycophants.

If anyone should be upset, it's Joe. All one has to do is look at his voting record and see that he is a good liberal that votes with his Democratic peers, most of the time. The exceptions are Iraq and national security issues.

Sen. Lieberman is now an independent and can support who ever he wants without owing his former party a damned thing. Equally, he can criticize whoever he wants, without having to explain himself to the Democratic leadership, or any other left-wing organization that aligns itself with the MoveOn.Org cult.

But at this point there isn't much the Dems can do to Joe, except one thing. According to the article, there is one last shot that the Dems can fire at Joe if he doesn't fall into lock-step with party line:

There is speculation that if Democrats bolster their Senate majority this fall, they could seek payback by stripping Lieberman of his Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee chairmanship.

I bet Joe is really scared.

The best thing the Dem hacks could do for themselves is remember the proverbial pendulum swings back hard. The same tide that rushed them into power can pull them back out. It's the nature of the beast we call politics.

Lieberman could be a VP running mate again; this time, for a Republican. McCain could do worse, and it would certainly throw a wrench into the Democratic Party's intentions in the fall.

What chance do you think Lieberman has to be picked by McCain?

I'd say he's been given a good look.

He's already been vetted by both parties from the 2000 campaign. If Dems make an issue of his candidacy, they will look totally ignorant (not that they don't already). The only issue they could make is his stance on the war and national security, which is a policy difference that was hammered away at, in his re-election.

Wouldn't be a bad idea to consider him. It would show who the "real" bipartisan uniter who could work with both parties really is.

Regressives don't like debate or argument. Just try disagreeing with one, and you'll see what I mean. I like Lieberman for the same reason I like McCain - he's never afraid to speak his mind or stand his ground, even against his fellow Democrats.

As for whether McCain would pick him as VP, I think that Lieberman's endorsement gives the most bang for the buck. I'm not sure he brings any additional voters as a VP candidate.

As as for payback, Barack Hamas Obama knows all about it since he endorsed Ned Lamont, and now Lieberman is endorsing BHO's opponent....

Greg-

I thought Obama endorsed Lieberman in his election,no? Either way...can't stand Obama and hope he loses the GE.

OT:

BTW, Greg....I was just in Boston last week.It was hot as hell, close to 100 degrees. Sheesh! Still love that city, though...too bad they have the Red Sox for a team. ;-)

Hey, it's my favorite punk-ass Mary-Ellen! :)

Too bad you didn't look me up when you were in town! And it's cooled off considerably since you were here. Must've been you. ;)

As for Obama's endorsement during Lieberman's last senate run, I heard Lieberman on the radio just this morning talking about it. It's just dumb luck that I know that fact.

But I just can't understand why you won't support BHO. He's got all of 150 total days in the Senate while in session. He already knows how to do the winkie-wink with shady businessmen. He's tolerant enough to hang out with terrorists, racists and dictators. He's going to make the whole world love America, cure cancer and end war. And he promises none of it will cost you a dime. What's not to like?

Greg-LOL! You've sure got BHO figured out!

And hey...he's already done so much for this country, he even gave us some more States! Last I heard, he said there are 57 or 58. Maybe if he didn't have such an aversion to the flag or flag pins, he could have counted the Stars or something. Ugh...just don't get me started on that clown, it will ruin the rest of my night.

Regarding Boston, we were only there for the day, a little sight-seeing while I was visiting my daughter in NH. I wanted my son to have an opportunity to see Boston. I'm crazy about that place. I was going to e-mail you, but I lost your e-mail address when my computer crashed a few weeks ago.
