Culture Of Corruption

We heard this ad nauseum from the Democrats that last several years. In fact, this was one of the major factors in their regaining control of Congress back in 2006.

The AP is finally reporting what most of us have already known for a long time, corruption is not limited to one party.

The Obama administration and the new Congress are quickly handing over to Republicans the same "culture of corruption" issue that Democrats used so effectively against the GOP before coming to power.

Freshman Sen. Roland Burris, D-Ill., is only the latest embarrassment.

Senate Democrats accepted Burris because they believed what he told them: He was clean. Burris now admits he tried to raise money for Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich, who authorities say sought to sell President Barack Obama's former Senate seat.

"The story seems to be changing day by day," Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., said Wednesday.

The political mess for the Democratic Party, however, isn't Burris' conduct alone; it's the pattern that has developed so quickly over the past few months.

It's not a pattern that has been developing over the past few months, it has just been coming to light for the past few months. It has been there all along. These crooks haven't just decided to go astray now that they are in power. Just read the rest of the article for a "who's who" of corruption and ethical violations.

The more things change, the more they stay the same. The same can be said about outcomes. In 2010, it looks like Democrats will be playing defense again and will be giving up a lot of yardage, on almost every down.

The AP article must be part of a grand conspiracy among conservatives to discredit Democrats; surely, there can be no basis in fact for all of the allegations! Nevertheless, if Americans are waiting for justice, I suspect they’ll have a long wait. I am not encouraged that a “House Ethics investigation” into the dishonesty of Charlie Rangel will produce an honest appraisal of his behaviors, or that it will result in an appropriate course of action. Asking members of congress to police themselves . . . well, what result should we suspect?

As pedophiles are attracted to such activities as coaching and scout organizations, so too are dishonest men and women attracted to politics. And if these politicians are clever enough, if they are patient and able to reign in their greed, they can become amazingly wealthy over many years of “government service.” Along the way, they are likely to become arrogant, however; like Murtha has become arrogant, and Duke Cunningham, and Harry Reid, Burris, and dare I suggest . . . Barack Obama.

We The People may elect such individuals in error. Perhaps we just weren’t paying good enough attention to them when they first ran for office in the House or Senate . . . but there is no excuse for reelecting them time after time. There is no justification for Barney Frank to achieve fourteen terms in the House, and Nancy Pelosi should be but a faint memory of a single term. And while we are all soul-searching our failures as responsible voters, we might also ask why the wheel of justice does ferret out the crooked republicans (Foley, Cunningham), while leaving democrats more or less intact. I believe the axiom is true: we deserve the government we elect, and elect, and elect.

I told you Obama was completely corrupt! Look at his sorry record in the Illinois Legislature, where he obtained fat earmarks for his wife's employer (leading to a big raise for her) and for his crooked supporters, like Rezko (convicted felon). This is not a shock, folks. It's only going to get worse. One month is all we've had of these jokers. Where will we be in four years?

I think the party in power catches the brunt of the wind that sweeps out the chaff. However, the Dems do seem to be coated with a certain kind of teflon that keeps sticky substances from sticking.

I think it's all in the marketing. Just take William Jefferson for instance. He was caught with the money in his freezer, how long ago? When is he scheduled for trial? And how many times has he been re-elected since then?

Well, to suggest that a black Congressman should be tried in court (for crimes he may have committed) and not re-elect him (based on these accusations alone); both are signs of a racist white society that wants to keep the black man down. His constituency is mostly black, they buy into this kind of nonsense, and they re-elect him because they believe him to be a hero.

We believed you, we all said it.

I gave him a chance, and he blew it the first week. Now, no one can say I didn't give him a chance. Now, they cannot claim I have hammered him from day one, the record is there.
