Attorney General Eric Holder described the United States Wednesday as a nation of cowards on matters of race, saying most Americans avoid discussing unresolved racial issues.
In a speech to Justice Department employees marking Black History Month, Holder said the workplace is largely integrated but Americans still self-segregate on the weekends and in their private lives.
"Though this nation has proudly thought of itself as an ethnic melting pot, in things racial we have always been and continue to be, in too many ways, essentially a nation of cowards," said Holder, nation's first black attorney general.
Race issues continue to be a topic of political discussion, Holder said, but "we, as average Americans, simply do not talk enough with each other about race."
Looks good on paper, but I have to ask: Do black Americans truly want this dialogue.? As long as Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton are given "mainstream speaking for the black community" status, I cannot see where this is really wanted.
Those who cry racism at the drop of a hat are not willing to listen. They want to to lecture, but they do not want to hear. Most whites have reached a point whereby, it just isn't worth the aggravation and the grief that is yielded when they attempt to engage in honest and open dialogue. If a person is open and honest about how they feel and someone disagrees with it, they are labeled racists anyway. So, why bother to put forth any real effort?
Openness and honesty are especially difficult goals to achieve, when we realize there is a sizable group of people who really believe that blacks cannot be racist towards whites. They use the "years of oppression" excuse almost every time, despite the fact that all slave owners from this nation's history are all dead.
So if someone gets the chance to speak with Mr. Attorney General in the near future, call his attention to this post. Maybe this will help him understand why very few people care about race relations, these days. Then again, maybe not. Maybe he'll just consider this to be just another racist rant by another vile and hateful blogger.

This is weird considering Obama's relationship with Wright, then his weak 'dialogue' speech, following by the bus toss.
I found this interesting:
Holder said that the country is now a “fundamentally different” place than it used to be, but that the nation “still had not come to grips with its racial past, nor has it been willing to contemplate, in a truly meaningful way, the diverse future it is fated to have.”
Sounds like he's saying certain people are going to be in for a surprise.
"we, as average Americans, simply do not talk enough with each other about race."
Have you ever tried to open a dialog with a black peoson about racism? If there is only one, they won't want to talk about it. If there are several you may well get your ass kicked. Now, I'm not saying that if he is a co-worker or someone else that you have good relations with, this would happen, but I would be careful who I chose to chat with about it.

It almost sounds like a threat. But being an attorney, he was careful in his his wording.

Many years ago. Wouldn't do it now on a bet.
The goal back then was achieving equality, which was a worthy objective. But today, the goal is empowerment. I am not interested in empowering anyone and that includes myself.
Allow me to start the dialogue with this asshole. Mr. Holder, I think you are everything that is wrong with affirmative action. There, how's that?
Not even one month for this administration. A tax cheat in charge of the IRS. A political appointment at the CIA. Reprieves for al Qaeda at GITMO. Apologies to the Muslim world for how awful America has been to them. The largest spending bill in US history to pay off political supporters and fund ridiculous liberal causes. Ugh. Not even one month yet....
Hi LAS !
/// … but Americans still self-segregate on the weekends and in their private lives. ///
Yes, Mr Attorney General, this is called “Freedom of Association”.
It is called “personal freedom”, in case your "education" - such as it was - was incomplete
An individual is free to associate with whomever one wants on “weekends” and “in their private lives”.
So, was this AG aiming at “whites” only ? What about other ethnic groups, such as, say, “the Chinese”, “the Koreans”, “the Russian Jews in Brooklyn” or “Muslims in the Twin Cities” ?
Greg is spot on.
Best,
L’Amerloque
Welcome to the brave new world my friends where decisions will be made for you and if you don't mingle enough with those who are deemed worthy by others you shall be castigated.
Hi Amerloque
"It is called “personal freedom”, in case your "education" - such as it was - was incomplete "
I think this person has an anger issue.
Oh and don't forget Mr. Secretary.
"White men can't jump either!"
Eric Holder is not only wrong—his analysis is moronic. Whenever anyone with white skin decides to "speak out" about racism, inequality, injustice, charlatans such as Jackson, Sharpton, and that idiot Jeremiah Wright quickly label him or her a racist. And then we should consider these questions: What dialogue can possibly follow ludicrous claims that white Americans intentionally infected blacks with HIV? What can we possibly discuss after Holder’s claims that we are a nation of cowards? This must simply be another dose of hope and change BO (pun intended) promised the American people.
//Not even one month for this administration. //
Unprecedented, isn't it? The Left has spent eight years calling GWB's administration the most corrupt in history. But never in my lifetime have I seen so many KNOWN losers and crooks appointed to positions of importance, as what we have just witnessed.
//It is called “personal freedom”, in case your "education" - such as it was - was incomplete //
It's called Columbia University and it's been spitting out Leftist grads for years now. Not sure how much "personal freedom" was highlighted there, but we all know how the "common good" is accentuated at a high level.
//Welcome to the brave new world my friends where decisions will be made for you and if you don't mingle enough with those who are deemed worthy by others you shall be castigated.//
For now maybe. Remember, for every action there is a reaction. For every cause there's an effect. I think people are going to be really mad by this time next year, when nothing is better and midterms are looming.
//What dialogue can possibly follow ludicrous claims that white Americans intentionally infected blacks with HIV? What can we possibly discuss after Holder’s claims that we are a nation of cowards?//
That pretty much sums it up. How can anyone have any reasonable conversation with anyone that is so inherently stupid to believe this crap?
But you left something very important out of your queries.
It's the same mentality that caused people to actually believe Karl Rove had a hurricane machine, used it to steer Katrina into New Orleans, and then had the Army Corps. of Engineers blow up parts of the levee to kill black people.
AG Holder: US Is "A Nation Of Cowards"
------------------
No, that's utter crap. He said we were cowards on questions of race.
No need to spin to get the neocons fired up. The accurate statement would have worked just as well.
Ducky,
To read your objection to the title, leads me to believe that you have no problem with the body of the post, which is where it was explained further.
Sometimes a title is only to catch the eye.
Too bad I didn't see this when we were discussing the issue....

Greg, that was a gem. But here in Indy, we could easily get away a real smart ass answer.
"Let's talk about race."
Gets a hearty reply:
"Which one? The 500 or the Brickyard? You know Mr. Holder, both are good in their own way. If you like stock cars which were derived from moonshining Southerners, then the 400 is for you. If you like slick, lightening quick airplanes on wheels that attract a world audience and more drunks than at any other one day event in the world, then you'll want the 500. It's all in what you want, sir. Which predominantly white crowd would you prefer?..blah...blah......."
