That Didn't Take Long

Almost three hours ago I posted this post. Now, the AP has this breaking story.

Iran said Tuesday it was ready for "serious negotiations" on its nuclear program, but a semi-official news agency said the government was unwilling to abandon nuclear enrichment _ the key U.S. demand.

Honestly, I expected this to be the big story next week. I figured Iran could pull the wool over the world community's eyes a little longer than this.

But, alas, I have miscalculated again. Help me platoon, I am a dying cockroach.

You're not alone. I don't believe anyone can completely figure out that region.

As to the Aug 22 end of the world crud, guess we foiled that a few weeks ago, eh?

How hard is it to foul-up the demonstration firing of an enriched uranium bomb?

Or were they attempting to test fire a plutonium device and it fizzled?

I am wondering if the Iranians meant this, or the attack on Israel by Hezbollah as being the catalyst that brought the world to its end.

I am leaning toward the latter, since the attempted plane bombers were Sunni.

I don't know. But I think they may be a bit farther out than some experts think, yet closer than what others think. But here's a point to consider, either way. Each time they manipulate the world community, they buy more time, they learn more (which once learned cannot be unlearned), and they get a little closer.

Just me, but I think that Iran is responding to Bush's statement about the continued US presence in Iraq. Same with North Korea who suddenly isnt going to test fire their Nuke... oh yeah, did I mention we've got a huge war game going on with South Korea right now?

Sabre rattling works sometimes, especially if you've got the peanuts to back up the claim.

G,

I agree. Nothing wrong with saber rattling.

That was my first thought as well, til I heard their tickets were for the 22nd. Surely they knew it was a Shia holy day and Iran had already said something big was coming. Were they just trying to one-up Ahmadinejad?

Answering my own question, but eureka, maybe the Sunni plane bombers were trying to pin their deed on Ahmadinejad in an attempt to draw a full blown attack on Iran.

That sounds very bin Laden-like.

Yes it does, so who knows? The important thing is, it didn't happen. Yet.
