News In Brief (And The Usual Opinionated Commentary)

Protesting A Protest

It seems that some people that live in the Bay Area have had enough of the likes of Code Pink, et al. Wednesday, people that support the military were outnumbering the anti-military factions.

If you remember, San Francisco, Berkeley, and other municipalities of that region will not permit the military to visit the government schools and apparently, they do not want them having an office there, either.

Take a look at the article for more details.

Bhutto Makes Predictable Return

Triumphant, but only for a moment, was her return to Pakistan. Too much fundamentalism means stability will be elusive for this country. Musharref has been the only thing keeping this place from exploding. Bhutto's return may very well be the flashpoint these savages are seeking, to throw Pakistan into total chaos.

Award Undermines Ties?

China is claiming that an award, given to a man they do not like, has undermined ties with the U.S., to which I say, poppycock. What has undermined the ties to the U.S. is more like:

Supporting Iran's quest to build a bomb.
Subverting every relationship the U.S. has in the Asian theater.
Supporting oppressive regimes in the region and worldwide.
Continuing to threaten Taiwan.
Allowing Chinese companies to steal patents from U.S. companies, unpunished.

That's just a sample of the things that the U.S. can submit on its complaint list. As you can see, it far outweighs some piece of paper or plaque that is given to a man.

Gotta love the Chinese - our "friends". We're all supposed to look the other way while they fund genocide in Sudan. But honor that "terrorist" - the evil dalai lama - well, that's just unacceptable. I wish Bush had some balls when it comes to China. They caused an international incident with our spy plane shortly after Bush took office, took our men hostage, stole our property. Bush's reaction? "We're sorry - here's a million dollars." Bush should tell the Chinese we're boycotting their Olympics for funding genocide. And he should tell them their MFN status is in danger. I don't give a crap about the effect on the lead-laden toy market or Walmart's profits....

I guess the US is trying to capitalist Chiner to death. It's a slow procedure no doubt.

Speaking of China, LA, did you see the LA Times story about Hillary's fundraising efforts in Chinatown? High hilarity.

Ms. Bhutto is an idiot. To suggest the institution of democracy in Pakistan in the absence of any semblance of an adherence to civil responsibility is patently ridiculous. There is no foundation for democratic principles in any Middle Eastern nation (save Israel), so what Bhutto is really asking for is anarchy and multifaceted civil and religious war. I am reminded that the United States insisted that the PLO pursue democratic elections. They did that, of course, and elected a terrorist organization to government them. There could be a lesson here . . . but of course, what do I know?

As far as China is concerned, the best thing we could do as a nation, is to realize that China will pursue its own interests, regardless what anyone else thinks; we should be doing the same—and might in fact do that if we had any statesmen in government, or as Greg suggests – a president with a set of balls. Listen, everyone, at best there are only those nations who can temporarily agree with us on an issue when it is in their best interests to do so. Or, in other words . . . WE DON’T HAVE ANY FRIENDS.

Arghhhhh!!!!

This almost made the list I submitted. But I figured the harsh critics of America can always claim that we invaded China's airspace. It's not likely we did, but it's something we'll never really know for sure.

But the other things I listed were things that cannot be refuted. What intelligent person can sit there with a straight face and say they aren't?

But you are right to bring this up for thought, China did cause the incident. They may have known that shooting down the aircraft was not going to be worth the hassle. Not only this, it was well before we were embroiled in the GWOT and we had less distractions, then.

By setting up a fake crash, they got to comb over the plane for technology secrets and anything else we wouldn't want them to know. Which is probably all they wanted in the first place.

Someday, they be strong enough to invade Taiwan and absorb their economy, for the production of even more military weapons. If you think Hong Kong gave them a much needed boost in their quest to dominate the world market, wait'll you see the impact having Taiwan under their tent.

Should read:

I saw that. Can we really say we are surprised? The day I saw the pic of Al Gore walking out of that Buddhist monastery with a fat check, I figured China was deep in our pockets.

The fact that poor Chinese are giving whopping sums of money to her campaign only shows the lengths the People's Republic will go to buy another Presidency.

The interesting thing here? The LA Times outting this.

It seems that Hillary has the support of the NY elite, while Obama has Chicago and LA. Things are going to get more desperate here, as voting time gets closer. All of the dirt Obama's camp digs up on Hillary now, can and will be used against her in the General Election.

Mustang,

//WE DON’T HAVE ANY FRIENDS.

We have tried to buy our friends. we have set China and Russia up in business and they have thumbed their noses at us. The less they need us, the more they will stick it to us.

Maybe it's time to be more of an isolationist nation. But I am afraid as long as it is necessary for us to kiss the asses of Arab oil barons, we will need to ensure that we have a stake in the ME. Therefore we will be at odds with those that want us to fall from our lofty position in the world, because they need that same oil to catch and surpass us.

What I would like to see happen is, we find an alternative that rids us of the need for Middle East oil and then their little business cartel shrivels up to nothing. (And we could make a buck or two off of China and Russia, in the process. After the way they have behaved as of late, it's would cost them.)

You may be right, although for some reason I seem to recall reporter Tom Hamburger as no partisan hack.

Whatever the case I'm not confident that any of these pre-election scandals will do much harm to Hillbilly. As you say, ho hum. The left will be solid, the right solidly against, and they're probably hoping for another Ross Perot to pop out and torpedo the GOP. Ron Paul?
