Mark at Witnit is no nitwit. He sees the danger of too much socialism, as is evidenced by the current state of affairs in France. Productivity is always a problem in socialist countries, which is why the former Soviet Union and Warsaw Pact countries had very little goods to buy.

Good article. Socialism is ideal for people too lazy to develop a system that actually involves "the people." The French constitution is so authoritarian that the Russians adapted it to their own purposes. The French have never been known for "trusting" the will of the people, so on the surface it would seem natural for Chirac to favor the EU Constitution.

There are some interesting comments on EURO blogs relating to the referendum; some point to the fact that the French voter is not so much opposed to the USofE as just ticked off about the way the Euro was stuffed down their throats.
Perhaps it would be well to recall what Lenin himself said: "The goal of socialism is communism." It looks to me as if everyone in Europe is moving in that direction only perhaps, in its final form, under the auspices of an Imam.

Many people don't realize how much Russia did get from France. You can compare the Bolshevik Revolution with the French Revolution. The executions of all opposition did not originate with the Soviets, but took a center stage first, with the French and their new invention the guillotine. (That thing got a lot of use.)
