Obama's Running Mate To Be Announced Soon

Some say it could be any day now. The chess match is about to begin. The Democratic Convention comes first, so he and his advisors must make their minds up soon, and announce the decision, soon.

Reports are flowing that Obama could announce his running mate very soon and you may guess, it has many on edge.

Senator Barack Obama has all but settled on his choice for a running mate and set an elaborate rollout plan for his decision, beginning with an early morning alert to supporters, perhaps as soon as Wednesday morning, aides said.

Obama's deliberations remain remarkably closely held. Aides said perhaps a half-dozen advisers were involved in the final discussions in an effort to enforce a command that Obama issued to staff members: that his decision not leak out until supporters are notified.

Obama had not notified his choice — or any of those not selected — of his decision as of late Monday, advisers said. Going into the final days, Obama was said to be focused mainly on three candidates: Senator Evan Bayh of Indiana, Governor Tim Kaine of Virginia and Senator Joseph Biden Jr. of Delaware.

Being the position of having to choose first, puts McCain into a very good position whereby he can steal some of the thunder during the convention. It forces Obama to show his hand first, giving McCain the opportunity to counter with a better choice.

Evan Bayh brings his ability to win a red state with him, but outside of Indiana, no one knows him. He is dull and inexperienced at the national and international level, just like Obama. Bayh is already playing a political game to get nominated, turning on his initial candidate. But, there is a movement among the hard left progressives to keep him off of the ticket that may prove too difficult of a hurdle to clear.

Tim Kaine who? Governor of Virginia, you say? May help him with that state, but he is also a virtual unkown in the international realm - where Obama needs the most help.

The only real sensible choice from this short list is Biden. He knows his foreign policy far better than most other Democrats and he definitely compensates for most of BO's profound weaknesses. In fact, if I were Democrat, I would have supported him for President far above any of the others. But he is not without fault.

For one, he is a jerk that loves to play dirty politics for political purposes and he has a long history of it. Lots of enemies can be made over the span of a career, the length of his. I would expect some real dirt to surface from his past.

Whoever is chosen will need to understand that the Barack ship may still sink, despite the running mate. Can they smell what Barack is cooking? For someone like Bayh and Kaine, it could be a career ender. For Biden, he'll still maintain his stature, but could lose a legacy in the process.

Oh please let it be Biden. It will increase the chances I will get back to my blog if it is him. Too much fun to pass up. As if the Obama empty suit isn't enough fun.

Hi AICS,

Biden, for sure, presents some interesting options for the GOP should he be the pick. A long history of serving in the US Senate will no doubt uncover some interesting dirt, in addition to the plagiary scandal. one does not stay in that body for the years he has and not accumulate some baggage. Ask Ted Stevens.

IMO, it's anybody's guess who Obama will pick, his choices of associates and friends are ...to say the least...pretty seedy. He has admitted to getting advice from Biden almost weekly since Biden dropped out, so I wouldn't be surprised if it's him.

On the other hand, as you pointed out, McCain has the advantage that he can make his choice later...preferably during the DNC convention. That could do a lot for him or backfire if it generates little news in the media. You know how the media is, they are so busy following their new 'rock star' Obama that they may not think McCain's pick as VP is all that important.

I've heard rumor that McCain may pick Meg Whitman (?) the CEO of E-Bay. He mentioned her in the Saddleback forum the other day and choosing a woman could help him a lot. It might help strengthen his weakness of not knowing much about the economy.

Oh and speaking of Saddleback...Obama took a real ass whoopin' and the media didn't like it...Andrea Mitchell tried to carry the water for him and said "they" are saying that McCain cheated. Not sure who "they" are...I guess she was talking about the Obamabots.

I swear to God, I had a senior moment and as I was reading the above I swear I saw Bin Laden written not Biden.

Greg, If you're out there.

1. Should you be worried about the Pats this year and

2. What the hell did you guys (Bosox) do to Manny? Attitude problem?

Maybe he'll pick Tony Rezko or William Ayers....

Well, one can dream. I was thinking Biden is the best choice, but as LAS points out, it would remove what is left of the hollow "change" mantra. Plus, doesn't it draw attention to BHO's need for an experienced helper to tell him what to do?

Honestly, I think the VP choice is so overrated. Evan Bayh isn't going to get any Indiana Republicans to vote Democrat. Same for Time Kaine and Viginia Republicans.

The best choice for VP is someone who will do no harm. Bayh or Kaine appear to fit the bill.

As for McCain, it's being reported he may pick Leiberman. Oy. I like the guy, but he would be a terrible choice. The opposite of doing no harm. McCain would lose many of the conservatives he has dragged into his camp.

Rocket: don't talk to me about the Patriots - it still feels like someone died.

As for Manny, what happened is what happens every year: the big baby threw a temper tantrum and made some unreasonable demands. Except this time, no one on the team - not management, not coaches, not his teammates - were willing to tolerate it anymore, and they basically cut off their nose to spite their face. What Manny wanted was to be released from the 2 team options the team had for the next 2 seasons at $20 mil/yr. I would have just said, "Fine." Instead, Manny got what he wanted - he'll be a free agent next year - except instead of keeping one of the top 3 right handed hitters of all time, they gave him up along with a young relief pitcher who throws 100 mph and a young outfielder and the Sox are paying Manny to play for the Dodgers. Pretty stupid if you ask me. Despite his idiotic behavior, Manny is one of my all-time favorite players. And the guy they got - Jason Bay - can't even stand in Manny's shadow. He's currently batting 6th in the order....

Rocket- That's funny, I never thought of that. Obama/Biden or Obama bin Biden? The GOP could have a great time with that!

Oh yeah...Lieberman on the ticket would be a sure loss for McCain. The GOP hates him because they think he's a liberal, and the Dems hate him because they think he's a Conservative. It's a lose/lose proposition. It won't get him any of the Hillary voters who won't vote for Obama and I think the Independents will run for the hills if Joe is on the ticket. Bad move...very bad move.

Personally, I don't care who goes on either ticket...I'm writing in my name. :-)

I just saw some tape of Biden who told reporters while he was driving away, "I'm not the guy". So, I will say that it will be Gov. Kathleen Sebelius (D-KS). She's the one who gave that incredibly boring rebuttal to the State of the Union last year. I mean, it was horrible and so monotone. I also noticed that Obama keeps referring to his VP pick as "he", which tells me that it may very well be a woman. What a dork, he's just going to rub the salt in the wounds of more Hillary supporters...especially the ones who finally conceded and said they'd support him. I guess he figures that Kathleen will fetch is coffee and slippers real good. There is no way he will pick a VP that he thinks is smarter than he is, his big fat ego won't let that happen.
