Colorado County Worker Disciplined For "Offensive" Sign

Here's a story to irritate you. It comes from the CBS affiliate in Denver. I'll let you read it, you can even watch the video of the newscast report.

I really do not believe that this would be an issue in France. You either learn to speak the language, or you are going to be in the dark much of the time. As far as I know, and to their credit, they do not expect their citizenry to learn the languages of their immigrants. It is expected that the immigrants will learn French.

When I lived in Germany, I made every effort to converse in German when out in the populace. If I was on-duty and had to deal with German Nationals that worked for the military, I expected them to speak English to me and they did. But when I went out and mingled with the locals on my free time, I did my best to speak as much German, as I could. They, in turn, respected me that much more, and met me halfway.

No such luck here, though. Here, if you feel the way the French feel, it gets your job threatened.

I think somebody turned off the fire under the "melting pot" because newcomers of late have been refusing to melt.
