I am a bit disappointed for New York, I really thought they had a legitimate shot at it. But evidently, the committee (which is representative of the countries that vote) really do not have a lot respect for the one city that has been the single biggest melting pot (of all of the people that these countries didn't want, mind you) in the world. You would have a hard time convincing me that there is another country that has a city that has welcomed the tired, the poor, the hungry with any more open arms, than NYC.
But hey, the good news (besides saving a bunch of money on my car insurance with Geico) is Paris did not get it. They are no doubt ready to blame the United States and President Bush in some kind of far-fetched (and wrongly perceived) conspiracy.
But a hearty congrats go out to our allies and friends, the British. Good job.

Today's news (July 7th) about London is horrific. Not related to the Olympics, though, as far as I can tell.
The criminals chose the timing, G8 and Olympic celebration mood. I suspect that it could have happened in New York or Paris. In other words, when there is a special event, or people are in a celebration mood, that’s the target for terrorist attack.
