Some Weak And Faulty Comparisons Compliments Of The Daily Kos

Click on the title for the link to the Daily Kos, which is a liberal blog. This is what Kos posted for his Independence Day message. Let's examine it, shall we?

Funny how the wingers try to claim American liberals are in league with crazy fundamentalist Muslims.

Claim? I think it is quite evident. I don't need Republicans to tell me that the left has given aid and comfort to the enemy in a time of war. I don't need Republicans to tell me the left is full of apologists for the terrorists and appeasers of them.

Reality is, we hate everything Islamic fundamentalism stands for.

Could have fooled me.

On the other hand, the Dobson's of the Republican Party -- you know, the people running the show -- have far more in common with the enemy than they'd ever like to admit.

Let's see, Dobson's position is what?

Is he the President? Is he Secretary of State, Defense, Homeland Security? Is he House Speaker or Senate Majority Leader? Is he the GOP party chairman? Does he hold any high ranking position in the GOP?

Answer: No, he is none of those.

So Kos starts off his post with very little credible information. Normally, that alone would be enough to cause me to click out of the site, but what fun would that be? Read on.

Religion in government

Al Qaida/Taliban: One and the same
American Taliban: One and the same
Liberals: Separation of church and state

This a good one. Liberals want separation of Christianity and state. All others are okay. Besides that, when have you ever seen Jerry Falwell lop off someone's head? When have we ever seen Billy Graham order and/or direct the destruction of a nation that he despises?

Schools

Al Qaida/Taliban: Religious indoctrination. Run by clergy.

American Taliban: School prayer. Religious indoctrination (creationism and "intelligent design"). Private religious school system.
Liberals: Leave religious teachings to parents and sunday school.

So, does having prayer in school really compare with the Al Qaida/Taliban's model of teaching jihad and the destruction of America and Israel?

Answer: It doesn't. It is a contrast, not a comparison.

Women

Al Qaida/Taliban: No school, must cover entire body, no rights.

American Taliban: Government control over reproductive freedoms, hostility to Title IX, hostility to working women
Liberals: Equality of the sexes

Where have Republicans urged hostility towards working women? Where have they advocated the complete subjection and oppression of women, as the Taliban has?

Answer: Nowhere. This is just another illogical reasoning that liberals want to promote as a legitimate comparison.

Religious freedom

Al Qaida/Taliban: 'Think like us, or we'll whip you and/or chop off your head'
American Taliban: 'Think like us, or we'll condemn you to hell'
Liberals: To each her own

This is a laugher. In some respects Kos is right, in that some religious fanatics will say that if you don't believe the way they do, you will go to hell. But let's look at this intelligently. A person that condemns someone else to hell, has no power or authority to do so. Just because they say it, won't necessarily make it so. They can judge on the earth if they wish, but only God will have the final say.

On the other hand, when Al Qaida condemns someone to execution by beheading, they do make it so. They act as judge, jury, and executioner.

Homosexuality

Al Qaida/Taliban: Eradicate them from society
American Taliban: Eradicate them from society
Liberals: Equality under the law

Jerry Falwell and the likes have said some pretty stupid things before, but I have yet to see any of them say kill all homosexuals. Liberals, on the other hand, have a tendency to totally disrespect people's rights to not have homosexuality rammed down their throats.

Torture

Al Qaida/Taliban: Torture them or chop off their heads
American Taliban: Torture them or homosexually rape them.
Liberals: No torture

Liberals condemn the smallest of indiscretions like mishandling a book, yet they are conspicuously silent on the real barbarous acts displayed by the terrorists. Instead they want us to stop, reflect, and try to understand why these murderers want to hurt us.

Those of you that have read this blog with any regularity know that I am not a member of the religious right, and that I often disgree with their opinions on social issues. I am not a fan of the Falwell faction. But nowhere in this piece posted by Kos can I find any legitimacy in the weak and faulty criticisms, he tries to promote as valid.

I doubt most of my readers can, either.

What we do see is nothing more than another liberal that desperately seeks to rationalize his wrong thinking and justify it.

His justification is mighty thin, as far as logic and facts go.

Logical fallacies only work when people disengage their minds from reality and truth.

You know, I've never seen a mullah demand a donation to his mosque "or else Allah will call him home."

Nope, never.

Oral Roberts doesn't have Saudi sheiks donating to him on a regular basis. What money he does get, he gets by duping the people that he solicits from. That may be bad, but to the best of my knowledge he has yet to fund suicide bombers and send them to the heart of Mecca.
