April May June 1987-2006

April May June, the beloved geriatric cat of the Sunsett family was 19 years old when she passed today. Here, she is seen doing her favorite thing in the world (besides eating and pestering the dogs), sunbathing on the warm concrete on a sunny day. She will be sorely missed, but as with anything that is of value in this short life, all things must and do pass.

And so here's to the smartest animal in the Sunsett household:

April, we love you and we will miss you, so much.
You will live in our hearts and memories, forever.
May you rest in peace, little kitty.

Of all of the things in the world, life is the most precious thing of all. All of God's creatures deserve to be loved and treated with respect, and that goes for pets, as well as humans. And April was loved very much, by all of us.

Very sad. I'm sure you will miss her. My oldest dog is doing a slow spiral. Still has a lot of spunk, but each month we see a degradation. Pets are a real gift.

It is true, LA. Pets are a gift of God and we can never repay these little critters for all of the good they do for us. I'm sorry to hear about your loss, my friend . . . but I will bet there is another little critter out there who needs a loving family.

LA,
My condolences. A beloved pet is part of the family.

April looks lovely in this photo. Remember her this way.

We have four cats. Our oldest, Sheba, will turn 18 this July. She is deaf now, but still gets around a bit--especially to the food dish. Getting to the litter pan, however, has become problematic because she has some cognitive disfunction. We have to watch her and point her in the right direction.

Again, sorry to hear this news.

AICS,

Thank you sir, for your kind words. I hope your dog lives everyday that he can and does it with little suffering.

We had an appointment at 4:40, this afternoon to have her put down. We tried to make it yesterday, but they were booked solid. They gave us an opportunity to bring her in and drop her off, but I said no. I wanted her to be in her own turf. But when I got her there, she was already gone.

Mustang,

Thank you sir, I know how you feel about yours. They are such good friends to mankind. They only ask for food and a bath now and then, other than that they are content to be with us, no matter what.

As for another critter, we are training a puppy that we got for my mother-in-law for Christmas, in hopes it would pick her spirits up. But, her haelth hasn't been so great, so we have had to absorb her into the household. Puppies (as I am sure you well know) are challenging and require a lot patience, at times. If she wasn't so cute, we'd have a Vietnamese BBQ, here.

But don't worry, she's safe. She's progressing well. We are down to one mess a day, in the house.

AOW,

Thank you AOW, I know you are an avid animal lover. And that says a lot about the kind of person you are. Anyone that doesn't have a profund respect for pets, whether they choose to own one or not, is missing out on something valuable.

April was having some similar difficulties. She had a rug in the bathroom she'd go on, when she couldn't make it. We had several and just rotated them. That was fine.

But she started going on some very good rugs all over the house. So we had to put her into the garage, (which she was used to). She had a bed, her food/water, and her litter box out there and lived out there in the spring, summer, and fall. We let her sleep inside during the winter.

Everything was as usual until Wednesday. She wouldn't eat, got weaker. We suspect she had bladder cancer and went into renal shut down. She had lost a lot of weight, but ate a lot, drank a lot, and eliminated a lot of waste. Didn't seem to be sick otherwise. Sweet as ever. But, she was.

Anyway, thanks to all of you again, all of you are the greatest.

My parents' dog has passed away this January. I understand some of your feeling.

Yes, pets are a real gift. Unlike a machine, nobody can buy exactly the same item at the store. People share various feelings, from pleasure, joy, excite, sorrow, pain, to anything you can think of.

Shah,

She was like family. I really don't want another cat right now. As you say, it wouldn't be the same.

Thank you for your kind words, sir.

Condolences, LA. 19 years is a lot in cat years, sounds like a happy life.

We have a couple of cats who've been abandoned in our neighborhood, one without a tail. The city animal control won't even take in cats anymore.

Reminds me a bit of this one.

His name was Minou. He died last June at the respectable age of 14.

Not to make light of the situation, but since it is said that cats are Democrats and dogs are Republicans, and you have both, I now understand a little better why you identify yourself as an Independant... ;)

Super Frenchie,
Minou looks very well-fed in that photo. LOL.

LA, April and her family are in my thoughts. My cat is very much a part of the family, and as determined as my dad was to hate her when she came into our lives, they are now inseparable.
April is no doubt happy in her heaven of catnip and sunbathing.

AC,

I think that may very well be the case in every urban setting. Like every other government service, it is inefficient and there is never enough money. Some old, same old.

Thank you for your thoughts, sir.

SF,

I am with AOW, I think you must have fed that cat some pretty good food. Was he Fancy Feast kitty or did he get pate and crepes? ;)

Thanks to you, for your thoughts as well, sir.

Attessa,

Thanks for visting PYY and thanks for the kind words. The way your dad was with your cat, is kind of the way I took to April. Never was much of a cat guy, but this cat was so sweet. She got irritable at times in her older age, but she still had a sweet streak in her.

Please feel free to come back anytime and comment if you wish.

Take a look at this group that responded to this post.

1. They are some of the best quality blog friends you'd ever want, in the world. I am mostlucky to have them as friends.

2. They are some of the smartest people you could ever meet, in the world. Just read their blogs, don't take my word for it.

To all of you:

Thanks so much again and I will be back full force Sunday night.

He got baguette and brie at every meal!

No seriously, he had some sort of a Norwegian forest cat in its genes, and they're all pretty big cats.

She reminds me of our oldest who loves to lie on her back in the sun ... as I go off to work. But someone has to bring home the bacon ... I mean tuna.

Obviously a great loss. We've lost cats in the past and we miss them still. Each is unique. April must have been a joy.

Super Frenchie,
I once had a huge female; her normal weight was 17 pounds, and she was not an ounce overweight. Honey was a red-point-tabby Siamese, but may have had some Norwegian Forest genes in there.

All but one of "our girls" are a bit overweight. Fat & sassy!

LA Sunset said...

Thank you for your words, Jason. Yes, April was a special cat, I am not a cat kind of guy, but April had a lot of charm. You couldn't help but love her.

Everytime I go out into the garage I now look over to where her bed was and wish I could see her there. But she isn't.

The older dog, the Springer, knows something is up and appears to be sad, but the puppy is oblivious.

Hi lasunsett !

Amerloque sends his condolences. He has dogs and cats and knows all too well the sense of loss you must be feeling: losing a member of the family is very, very, very hard.

The wheel turns, and time passes. That is the only consolation.

Best,
L'Amerloque

L'Amerloque,

Thank you for your kind words. It's been a week now, the pain has eased somewhat. I was in the garage the other day and thought I heard the bell on her collar. But alas, it wasn't.

Again thanks. And be sure to come back and argue with me, on something. ;)
