“The speech that Governor Palin gave was well delivered, but it was written by George Bush’s speechwriter and sounds exactly like the same divisive, partisan attacks we’ve heard from George Bush for the last eight years. If Governor Palin and John McCain want to define ‘change’ as voting with George Bush 90% of the time, that’s their choice, but we don’t think the American people are ready to take a 10% chance on change,”
- Bill Burton, Obama Campaign Spokesman.
Translation:
If you do not believe that Barack Obama has all of the answers and possesses the ability to move this country in the right direction, you are divisive.

Hi LAS !
Palin made an excellent speech.
Bravo Sarah P. !
Democracy is by its very nature the provenance of the Common Man and not of professional politicians. It clearly means that if the the entire US Congress, along with the Executive Branch, disappeared overnight due to some natural or planned cataclysm, the same number of regular individuals could step up and do the job, in arguably no worse a fashion that their predecessors.
That’s what Democracy is all about and that is where the has always USA excelled: out of one of its fifty states comes an individual, who has lifted her- or himself by the bootstraps, who is apparently ready to practice democracy as it should be practiced. It has always been thus, in the USA, from the Founding Fathers thru Abe Lincoln and right up to Harry S Truman. It is what the French call the "renewal of the political class".
Amerloque was reminded of the lines from the immortal poem, In Flanders Fields:
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
The stakes are not the same as in Flanders, of course, but the lines sure fit the situation. (grin) Hello, Sarah Palin.
Though the speech was (in Amerloque’s mind, at any rate) written by a group of speechwriters, it was one of the better political efforts of the last couple of generations. While Amerloque might not agree with some of the planks in the Republican platform, and while he is no great fan of McCain and far less a fan of Obama (and still less of some of GWB’s policies !), he is very, very pleased --- and impressed --- by Sarah Palin.
If Palin is as good when speaking extemporaneously, then Biden might as well call in sick for his debate with her.
Amerloque was disappointed, though, by the fact they she did not refer to what he feels are two burning issues : healthcare and illegal immigration.
However, defining her role in the speech, Palin said of herself : the difference between a Hockey Mom and a pitbull is the lipstick.
Has "Sarah the Barracuda" morphed into "Sarah the Pitbull" ? McCain appears to have made a brilliant choice.
Best,
L’Amerloque
I just talked with a Democrat woman who says she is voting for McCain/Palin based upon the speech.
I thought the speech was pretty good, and that Palin will probably improve. The Obama team has got to be worried. Palin is obviously not just some token female. She is a formidable opponent. (BTW, I love how she didn't say "Obama" once - she just called him "our opponent").
Also, isn't their stock criticism getting old? GWB isn't running. Someone has to clue in Barry....

I'm pretty sure that was an ad-lib. Pretty cool, huh? Can anyone imagine the calculating Barry Soetro straying from his binkie - the telepromter? I think not!
Hi Greg !

Yup, Amerloque concurs: it sure looked/sounded like an an-lib. She looks to be one tough cookie.
One wonders indeed just how many Democrats will jump ship - and in which states. (grin) Will there be a stampede of independents running to join the mavericks?
Best,
L'Amerloque
PS: Mrs Amerloque wonders if there are a lot of American women like SP. (wide, wide grin)
