You will also notice the name of one, Joseph Biden. This explains precisely why he is badgering Judge Roberts, so hard. He is posturing himself to seek the Democratic nomination and wants to be cast in the mean-spirited and antagonistic, Howard Dean mold. And, if that is his strategy early on, he'll get the same results as Dean.

problem is, it will backlash. During campaigns, someone will say "how can you say he is the most qualified candidate you've ever seen, and an unparalelled legal mind... but I vote no"

You moght be right. On the other hand, many have found it easy to forget 9-11. They may forget this too.
