Obama Suspends Campaign To Visit Ailing Grandmother

That's what the WSJ is reporting.

Sen. Barack Obama will take off two days from his campaign this week, less than two weeks before Election Day, for an urgent visit to his ailing grandmother in Hawaii, the Democratic presidential candidate's campaign announced tonight.

I wish his grand mother well, but I am not sure just how urgent this visit is.

It has been announced that he is stopping in Indianapolis on Thursday, before flying out to Hawaii. Today is Tuesday.

Is it just me? Or does this smell fishy?

It's hard to look into this. Part of me thinks how dear and necessary. But the wacky and evil side of me thinks how he spent his vacation there along with those formative years under the influence of the Communist Miller in Hawaii.

I understand, Obob.

I genuinely hope he has a good visit with her. But, the media is making this sound so urgent. If it is, why isn't he there now? Why is he waiting? Is there an underlying motive here? There are many possibilities here.

Hi LAS !

Well, well !

Over on the USA Today website the same news has been reported.

In the comments section Amerloque added:

/// Compare:

// Along with his mother and his grandfather, she raised him in Hawaii from the time he was born until the moment he left for college. //

with:

(from USA Today note to the article …)

// As several commenters have noted, Obama spent some years when he was very young living with his mother and stepfather in Indonesia. It was when he was 10 that he began living full-time in Hawaii with his mother and grandparents. //

Amerloque added:

One can note with interest the huge discrepancy between what comes out of the Obama campaign and the reality on the ground. More lies from the Obama campaign headquarters ...

McCain/Palin in 2008 ! Proven leadership and honor ! ///

Now, one can also note that when John McCain put his campaign on hold, it was to go to Washington to help the American people.

Obama is apparently putting his campaign on hold for personal reasons.

It’s clear just who puts his country and its people at the top of his list: John McCain.

McCain/Palin 2008: demonstrated leadership, integrity and honor.

Great comment, l'amerloque!

I watch ABC news now b/c we have a rule against turning on the Natn'l Barack Channel in my house. Anyway, this morning, I was running late and got to see the first 15 minutes of ABCs coverage. It was all about Barack and his "typical white" grandma (they didn't mention that of course). Sure does smell like a stinking ploy of the Obama camp to get even more sympthetic coverage.

L'Amerloque said...

Hi Greg !

Since Obama apparently has not seen fit to publish his birth certificate, perhaps there is a connection with this visit ?

A deathbed, sworn statement of some kind ?

It does seem a bit weird he's going to several campaign rallies before heading out to suspend the campaign, which is the exact criticism McCain took.

That sounds horrible on its face. Horrible. Anyone who's had a deathbed experience with a parent will probably flame you, sir. However, Obama has left so much mystery in his background that it's only natural for that thought to be rolling around in so many heads. Sad, as the liberals say.

Yet it must be said. Sticks and stones, and all that.

It must be trumpeted from the rooftops, since the very rule of law in the USA might be at stake, in Amerloque’s view .

Several months ago Mme Amerloque asked “What are the requirements to be US President ?” Amerloque answered, “One has to be a US citizen: I’ve told you this a gazillion times ! That’s why our Franco-American kids can’t ever be elected: they were born here in France.”

Now, Mme Amerloque is quintessentially French, which means she is procédurière. (That translates out to “procedural”, although in practice it means “sticking to the letter of the law, paperworkwise”. Mme Amerloque believes that the law should be obeyed, unlike many of her fellow citizens.)

She immediately came back with “Yes, I know that very well, you’ve told me enough times over the years, but exactly what kind of papers does one have to submit in order to be a candidate for, say, representative, senator, governor, or President ?”

Amerloque, after forty years here, has become somewhat procédurier himself, of course: when in Rome, and so forth. Moreover, not an election goes by here but that the relevant administrative court is called on to disqualify a candidate --- and it does, unhesitatingly. Same for purging the voter rolls with repeat, deceased, or imaginary voters. (The Corsicans are masters of this: in some villages there are more voters than inhabitants, every election time …).

Amerloque thought that Mme Amerloque had asked a relevant question, so Amerloque began casting around, relatively half-heartedly at first, then a bit more energetically. He couldn’t find information as to exactly what documents had to be presented in Illinois for running for senator, and still less what specific paperwork must be submitted to run for president.

(Perhaps Amerloque was looking in the wrong places: corrections welcomed, of course.)

Amerloque is wondering more and more if this Obama person is even eligible for election.

Over on the Daily Telegraph (London) the comments section of recent articles contains:

/// …/… There is still no evidence that Barak Saddam Hussein Obama is eligible for the office of president of USA. The pending court case from the democratic primaries is yet to go ahead. It would be off if he could provide a birth certificate proving he was born in USA. …/…

and

/// He is not a citizen because according to his paternal grandmother, she assisted at his birth in Africa. His two half brothers on his fathers side agree. ///

Well, well.

If true, the latter comment would indicate that Obama is not eligible, since he was born overseas, but not on a military base, as John McCain was (the Supreme Court weighed in on this issue ages ago, apparently). Did Obama say anything in his bio with reference to his birthplace ? Where has the poster obtained his/her info ?

Amerloque has found an interesting website:

/// Obama Hawaii investigation moves into high gear with lawsuit seeking release of birth records///

http://tinyurl.com/6obrls

It speaks of a:

/// Honolulu News Conference: Saturday October 18///

Gosh, right about the time that Obama was announcing that he was taking a few days off to visit his ailing grandmother !

Amerloque recalls reading Ian Fleming’s Casino Royale (the first ‘James Bond') when it came out in the 1950s. A saying in the frontispiece struck him forcefully and he has remembered it down through the years:

Once is happenstance.
Twice is coincidence.
The third time is enemy action.

“So,” Amerloque asks, “just what is going on in Hawaii ?!”

Is a sworn statement being prepared for use in court ? “Barack was born at my place in Hawaii, but we didn’t register the birth”, or “Barack was born in the ghetto, and the paperwork was lost/destroyed/unfinished by the social worker. Yes, I know, we should have registered him, but we didn’t. So sorry.”

Furthermore, didn’t this Obama individual have to submit a birth certificate to obtain a passport , for his recent trip to Europe? Has he ever had a passport ?

Hi Amerloque.

I began asking myself the same question a few days ago. Is this guy even American and on a Kenyan birth certificate is the religion indicated. Today I cannot say.

Not that I care about the religion but it would demonstrate the honesty of the candidate.

I found this

http://tinyurl.com/59mw9v

But note that this is only Birth certification not certificate of live birth such as I have from the state of Ohio. I repeat "certificate of live birth"

As we know Jerome Corsi was thrown out of Kenya a few weeks ago. Was he looking for a birth certificate.

Is this too much an embarrassment for all of the American electoral system so is that why it is getting little if no press?

Interesting questions to ponder.

Hi Rocket !

Sure looks like a fake to Amerloque. (sigh – he’d seen it back at the beginning of his quest – many thanks)

What Amerloque would love to see is a birth certificate presented by a third party, i.e., one which has not transited through the Obama campaign or the press. (re-sigh)

Anyway, here’s another site which might be of interest. Separating the wheat from the chaff is a long job requiring much coffee (or, in Mme Amerloque’s case, soup). (grin)

All_I_Can_Stands said...

There is much controversy about the birth certificate. The factcheck.org people claim they saw one, but there are charges that it was a fake.

For what it is worth, a Democrat (albeit 9/11 Truther kook) named Berg is suing Obama to produce what is called the "vault copy" of the birth certificate. Instead of just producing it the Dems and Obama filed a motion to get the case dismissed. The judge did not and Obama had until yesterday to produce the COLB. He did not.

As much as I might fantasize of this being true and coming to light days before the election, I am quite skeptical of such a conspiracy theory.

At any rate, Atlas Shrugs is all over it here:

Please do not confuse "Birth certification" with Certificate of Live Birth which is the document that is delivered at Birth if I am not wrong.

Birth certification says one is alive. Birth certificate is delivered at birth and signed by delivering doctor. Has Obama presented this yet?

Hi all i can stands !

Amerloque extends his thanks for the link (Atlas Shrugs).

After having read it, both he and Mme Amerloque feel that there is, as the French say, an eel under the rock (anguille sous roche, i.e., more than meets the eye).

There seems to be something fishy indeed. One hopes that the attorneys survive: mentally and financially, and, of course, physically. It looks like crunch time for someone, at least from over here.

Now, Mme Amerloque is as far from a believer in conspiracies as it is possible to be. (grin) She has read all i can stands’ answer, and wants to restate her question:

Exactly what physical paperwork must be filed, if any, to run for a US Senate seat in the State of Illinois, USA ?

By this, she means: birth certificate ? proof of US citizenship, i.e., naturalization or court decision ? proof of residence within the state ? (is a tax return proof ? or is something else required, like being registered on the voting rolls as a simple citizen ? or a utility bill in one’s name ?) bank references ? a note from one’s priest/minister/rabbi/mullah saying one is a good boy/girl ? proof that one is literate ? Theoretically, a passport is proof of citizenship. Theoretically.

What kind of paperwork ? Where can the list be obtained ?

Ditto for President and Vice-President: what paperwork is required ? Is it enough to say “I’m running, vote for me !” ? What does the practical application of the US constitution (stating that only a natural-born citizen can president ) entail, exactly ?

Amerloque and Mme have dual national children and keep up to speed on most d-n issues, like taxes. One can be a dual national, apparently, and still be eligible to run for US president if one is a natural-born citizen. Dual nationality can be acquired by birth in a given country (in French droit du sol), or simply by transmittal by one parent (in Latin, de jure sanguinis; in English, derivation; in French, droit du sang), so that is not at issue.

What is at issue is twofold:
Is Barack Obama a natural-born citizen as required by the US Constitution ? (Where is the proof ?)

and

Has Barack Obama filed the necessary paperwork to be eligible to run for President ? (And,of course, one might also look at whether he filed the correct papers -- in a timely manner, of course -- when running for Senator …)

It’s procedural, not conspiratorial. (grin)

It looks as though the “birth certification” is akin to the French extrait de l’acte de naissance, while the COLB is a combination of the French acte de naissance and livret de famille (which list all children born, whether stillborn or alive).

See post to all I can stands above. (grin)

Hi Amerloque

Re Madam Amerloque being "procédurière".

8 years ago when I renewed my Florida drivers permit. I did it by mail. Fill in a simple form and no picture needed being sent. The permit arrived without picture which was completely in accordance with the law.

4 years ago when I went to the DMV in the town where my mother lived in Florida I put in my French address for the renewal but the computer rejected it because of the zip code in front of the City in France and no state on the French address. I was told

"Don't you know someone in Florida? "Can't you give me a Florida address". Of course I could and that was the end of that. No need of proof whatsoever.

Some years back I started a small company in Florida. About 2 hours from filing paperwork to attribution of a sales tax number. A subchapter S corporation which was exonerated from Social security withholding since I don't need it living in France.

When I dissolved the company a few years later I called the Florida Secretary of State office to ask several questions about dissolving the company. I was told quite sharply, JUST SEND THE DISSOLUTION FORM! No proof of identity necessary.

About 7 years ago I was called for jury duty thanks to the drivers license. Same story. Just fax a copy of your French residency card and no problem.

I graduated from the University of Virginia which uses the honor system which means that you could take certain tests back to your home and do them there because they trusted you.

Having myself lived for over 30 years in France I understand exactly where Mme. Amerloque is coming from and can also deduce that maybe in the US Obama has never had to show valid proof of birth.

My wife who just received her 10 year residency card last July had to sweat out a couple of tense moments when we didn't have a bank "RIB" with us in 2007 (it's 3 years of one year permits and then the 10 year on a regroupement familiale) as proof of joint bank account ownership even though we had brought the joint account checkbook. I was able to convince the agent that the checkbook was proof enough but she originally told me that the "RIB" was the only real proof of the account being active.

We are now cool until 2017(myself) and my wife (2018) and now you can do it by mail. No more sweaty palms in front of the agent.

Praise the Lord.

My father used to work in France from time to time with Nato until 1967 when he got the boot. Boy did he have some stories to tell.

Yes, this ‘proceduriality’ is not necessarily negative. (grin)

One day, not so long ago, before his health problem, Amerloque received a parking ticket fpr having overstayed the allotted time.

He brought it home. Mme Amerloque took a look … and said “Don’t pay this !” Apparently the Parisian meterreader (gotta employ those affirmative action people somewhere !) had forgotten to put the street number of the building in front of which the car had been parked (just street name, no number).

Hence there was a vice de forme. Mme A penned a quick letter and sent it off. The ticket was classée. (smile)

Now, back to topic …

/// I graduated from the University of Virginia which uses the honor system which means that you could take certain tests back to your home and do them there because they trusted you. ///

Mr Obama has refused to release his university transcripts. The general opinion seems to be that it’s because his grades would reflect that he was ‘affirmative action’.

Another question arises, though … could this refusal be because the nationality is indicated therein, somewhere on the transcript ? Or because his birthplace is indicated ?

Amerloque hasn’t looked at his in years … it’s somewhere in the subbasement of the cellar (grin).

If Rocket has his to hand, does his transcript indicate nationality, perchance ?

Hello All !

Looks like the rule of law took a beating in Hawaii. The judge did not allow the birth certificate to be produced.

At Atlas Shrugs :

/// BIRTH CERTIFICATE RULING: HAWAII JUDGE IN THE TANK FOR OBAMA

The judge set a court date for NOV 7th after the election. (here's the legal doc -hat tip slimguy)

Martin filed with the Hawaii Supreme Court for relief and an emergency hearing in front of the judge and the Supreme Court ruled against him. Thus the Nov 7th court date stands.

Hi LAS !

Mme Amerloque was flabbergasted to learn that the Hawaiian court had copped out and that the case would be heard after the election. (Over here, there are courts sitting “from minute to minute” which might have heard this type of request. Depends on how it was formulated …)

Over Friday lunch (Alaska salmon) she and Amerloque kicked it around and asked themselves how a French political strategist would act on the issue. Here’s a recap of the luncheon trial balloons:

Postulate 1 – The COLB shows indeed that Obama was born in the USA and thus fulfills the constitutional requirement.

Possible Result 1 – It’s a non-issue, and the dog and pony show can proceed as planned.

Postulate 2 – The COLB shows that Obama was not born in the USA and hence the constitutional requirement is not fulfilled.

Possible Result 1 – If the news becomes known before the election, Obama will be disqualified. Democrats running for office throughout the country would suffer from guilt by association. Riots might break out in cities throughout America.

Possible Result 2 - If the news becomes known after the election, Obama will be removed by the Supreme Court, and Biden promoted forthwith. Democrats wouldn’t suffer as much, since they would already have been elected. Excuses will range from “Obama forgot to tell us !” through “We didn’t know that !” to “Obama is/was a confidence trickster who has become ensnared by his own success !” There would be fewer riots, too, since there will not have been an electoral defeat (in spite of Obama’s huge lead in the polls); there would be no accusations of vote-fixing; and it could all be put down to constitutional law.

Postulate 3 – The COLB is never, ever produced.

Possible result 1 – Nothing will come of it, unless it’s a move to amend the constitution, ostensibly for Schwartzy.

It’s clear that Postulate 2, Possible Result 2 would be the optimum outcome for the Democrats, should the other Postulates not come to pass and the COLB show that Obama is not a native-born American.

I have no idea where my University transcripts are.

Maybe at the bottom of the Potomac River?

Don't remember anything about nationality on them. In fact I don't ever being asked about my nationality until I got to France.(in triplicate)

PS - Get the new numericable box and it will solve a lot of you reception problems.

They however are billing me for the high def box and I only have the regular box so I will have to trudge down to their office to rectify this problem.
