Is Al Qaida Planning A Ramadan Offensive?

Click on the title for a WND article that claims, it is so.

WASHINGTON – Raising new concerns about the use of weapons of mass destruction by terrorists, al-Qaida is planning spectacular attacks next month against the U.S., Russia and Europe in what it is calling the "Great Ramadan Offensive."

The offensive, designed to overshadow the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on New York and the Pentagon, was first referenced in a May 30 letter written by al-Qaida's Iraq commander Abu Musab Zarqawi to Osama bin Laden. It is the subject of a report written by terrorism expert Yossef Bodansky, the former director of the Congressional Task Force on Terrorism and Unconventional Warfare, to government officials.

Ramadan, the holiest period in the Muslim calendar, begins Oct. 4 this year and lasts a month.

World Net Daily sometimes is not a reliable source of accurate information. But sometimes they are. The question we have to decide is, which is it this time?

Does it surprise us? I'd say, "no". It doesn't surprise me a bit, does it you? Are you concerned enough to be more vigilent and more alert, than you usually are? Or will you blow it off? Or better yet, are you hoping and wishing it to be true, for the sole purpose of having ammo to bash the President? Are you secretly wishing for another U.S city to become a wasteland, just so you can say, "ha ha we told you so"?

While we are all fixated on the Hurricane Katrina, and rightfully so, it bears mentioning that we need to be aware of the threat that Al-Qaeda poses during this time of recovery for the Gulf Coast.

And then later on, he quotes Rep. Solomon Ortiz (D-Texas), a member of the House Armed Services Committee:

"The al-Qaeda, from what we understand, has been meeting with them in Central America," said Rep. Solomon Ortiz, D Texas, a member of the House Armed Services Committee, which oversees national security. Ortiz testified in March that al Qaeda has offered MS-13 about $250,000 to smuggle "high value al-Qaeda operatives across the border." "Only God knows who or what they've been able to bring in" to the United States, Ortiz told The Associated Press.

Interesting, no? Now let's see what the WND goes on to say:

Bodansky says plans for attacks against Europe are being finalized in the Balkans, while preparations for attacks on Russia are being completed in Chechnya. Attack plans against the U.S. are being directed from the tri-border area in Latin America.

He also concludes that al-Qaida leaders have interpreted the devastation of the Gulf Coast by Hurricane Katrina as a sign that Allah is pleased with their plans.

Well, there's no arguing just how sick and twisted their minds are. I have no trouble believing that whatsoever. In fact, I have little difficulty accepting this as a possible scenario, one iota.

Is it, or isn't it? Will it happen, or will it not? These are not the questions we should be asking. The more appropriate query should be, could it happen or could it not? And the answer is yes, it very well could happen. And that being the case, does it not make more sense to do everything humanly possible to prevent it, no matter the cost?

Rep. Ortiz is concerned and remember, he is a Democrat. This isn't about politics, this isn't about who will win the next election. This is bigger than all of that and deserves an extra measure of vigilence and staying alert, at all times. To blow this off is very unwise. To take joy in the possibility, is indicative of a human being that is lower than the lowest whale shit.
