Great Hypocritical Moments

Frank Rich and Maureen Dowd are two liberal media hacks that write for the NY Times.

On Saturday, Mr. Rich, being the self-perceived legend he thinks he is, saw fit to spend his day writing this piece for publishing on Sunday. Likewise, Maureen Dowd spent her Saturday typing out her usual partisan elitist vitriol, designed to persuade her readers that she has a clue. I don't know who they are trying to convince, us or them. But I can say one thing for sure, neither one impresses me.

Both writers are trying to make the case that John McCain and Sarah Palin are guilty of whipping up their crowds, into angry mob-like frenzies.

From the Rich piece we read this:

At McCain-Palin rallies, the raucous and insistent cries of “Treason!” and “Terrorist!” and “Kill him!” and “Off with his head!” as well as the uninhibited slinging of racial epithets, are actually something new in a campaign that has seen almost every conceivable twist. They are alarms. Doing nothing is not an option.

All’s fair in politics. John McCain and Sarah Palin have every right to bring up William Ayers, even if his connection to Obama is minor, even if Ayers’s Weather Underground history dates back to Obama’s childhood, even if establishment Republicans and Democrats alike have collaborated with the present-day Ayers in educational reform. But it’s not just the old Joe McCarthyesque guilt-by-association game, however spurious, that’s going on here. Don’t for an instant believe the many mindlessly “even-handed” journalists who keep saying that the McCain campaign’s use of Ayers is the moral or political equivalent of the Obama campaign’s hammering on Charles Keating.

What makes them different, and what has pumped up the Weimar-like rage at McCain-Palin rallies, is the violent escalation in rhetoric, especially (though not exclusively) by Palin. Obama “launched his political career in the living room of a domestic terrorist.” He is “palling around with terrorists” (note the plural noun). Obama is “not a man who sees America the way you and I see America.” Wielding a wildly out-of-context Obama quote, Palin slurs him as an enemy of American troops.

By the time McCain asks the crowd “Who is the real Barack Obama?” it’s no surprise that someone cries out “Terrorist!” The rhetorical conflation of Obama with terrorism is complete. It is stoked further by the repeated invocation of Obama’s middle name by surrogates introducing McCain and Palin at these rallies. This sleight of hand at once synchronizes with the poisonous Obama-is-a-Muslim e-mail blasts and shifts the brand of terrorism from Ayers’s Vietnam-era variety to the radical Islamic threats of today.

Dowd is more reliant on the skills she learned in her high school creative writing class, than any serious talents cultivated in journalism school. In her own cute way, she mirrors Rich's claim by using Dowd Latin:

Cum Quirites Americani ad rallias Republicanas audiunt nomen Baraci Husseini Obamae, clamant “Mortem!” “Amator terroris!” “Socialiste!” “Bomba Obamam!” “Obama est Arabus!” “Caput excidi!” tempus sit rabble-rouseribus desistere “Smear Talk Express,” ut Stephanus Colbertus dixit. Obama demonatus est tamquam Musulmanus-Manchurianus candidatus — civis “collo-cerviciliaris” ad ralliam Floridianam Palinae exhabet mascum Obamae ut Luciferis.

From these passages, it is apparent that no one would dare be angry or verbalize that anger in a public setting, unless they were incited by McCain and Palin.

But now let's take a look at what happens when a group of McCain/Palin supporters quietly exercised their constitutional rights, by marching through parts of New York City:

I am patiently waiting for Rich and Dowd to explain this one. But not to worry, I won't hold my breath.

Wow, you would think Bin Laden was walking down the middle of the street. Then again, some of these liberals would have more tolerance for Bin Laden they they would for McCain supporters. If this had been us, we would have been reemed a new one.......hypocritical to say the least.

Thanks to the liberal media, there are new standards in ethics.

For example:

When a Democratic Congressman (William Jefferson) gets caught with a wad of bribery cash in his freezer, he stays in Congress and even gets re-elected. He also maintains his innocence despite being caught on tape receiving it, and hires an attorney to get him off of the charge.

When a Republican Congressman (Duke Cunningham) gets caught taking bribes from a defense contractor, he resigns, pleads guilty and faces the music like a man.

If you or I failed to pay our taxes, we would get fined and/or go to jail. But when Democrat Charlie Rangel gets caught, he cries racism, avoids jail, and still serves as cahirman of the House Ways and Means Committee.

See how this works?

Hi LAS !

Over here, the media are 99% Obama. The past two days have been filled with how McCain allegedly used the word "whip". The screens and papers have been flooded with old engravings of the slave trade since, according to the bienpensants who write this garbage, that's what whips were essentially used for.

Not a word about the entire locution McCain used ("whip his you-know-what !") since the partisan idiot reporting from the US obviously has no idea of it ("whip his a**") (sigh)

In the real US world, where the French reporters have never travelled, ("out west"), whips are used in cattle drives and rodeos. (grin)

Nary a word here, of course, about Joe Biden, Franklin D. Roosevelt, and TV in 1929.

Greg would be climing the walls (grin)

I can't say I am surprised, Amerloque. Say what you want about Fox News, but they really are balanced in their news reporting. Their commentary shows may be slanted to the right, at times. But overall, they are far closer to what journalism is supposed to be than any other.

Hi Amerloque

"The past two days have been filled with how McCain allegedly used the word "whip". The screens and papers have been flooded with old engravings of the slave trade since, according to the bienpensants who write this garbage, that's what whips were essentially used for."

You see what I see, what we all see in this biased coverage in France.

I got so fed up with it that I wrote a nasty e mail to i télé and told them to get a life explaining what whip someone's ass meant.

Like I said France got it's ass whipped in 1940. Nothing to do with the slave trade!

Whip s.o.'s ass = battre.

The journalist said we all know what meaning the word whip has for the black community in the US.

PS - NASN is back since yesterday even after them telling me on the telephone I had never been a subscriber.

PSS - I'm getting a little fed up with CNNI who systematically leads reports with an Obama photo op and then McCain comes in second and it's usually quite negative.

Indeed. Even in my youth, when I was a hopeless idiot of a liberal, I could not stand watching the crap reported on French news about America. Like this beauty I remember: there are more serial killers in the US b/c many states give out drivers' licenses w/o a picture. Nonsensical on many levels.

LAS: Say what you want about Fox News, but they really are balanced in their news reporting.

It's pretty much all I watch anymore. We have a new rule against turning on the National Barack Channel in my house.

It's no different here, Rocket.

/// Say what you want about Fox News, but they really are balanced in their news reporting. ///

It seems to be unavailable on a regular basis (correction welcomed !). The (incompetent) cable provider offers “Fox Life”. News programs in English available to Amerloque via that same provider here are:

CNN International (includes some “Daily Show”)
CNBC Europe (shows Brian Williams)
Sky News (from London – shows that sad Couric person)
BBC World (BBC News)
Euronews (the multilingual Europe TV Channel designed to lobotomize watchers into believing in “Europe”. A modern Radio Moscow)
Al-Jazeera International
France24 (English version; made by high-schoolers ?)
Deutsch Welle (English version)

There are also a whole pile of non-English-language news programs: Switzerland, Canada (French), Italy, Luxemburg, Germany, Belgium, Poland, Russia, Lebanon, Syria and so on and so forth. No Scandinavians, alas

Hi Rocket !

/// PS - NASN is back since yesterday even after them telling me on the telephone I had never been a subscriber. ///

Does Rocket mean that he called NASN, or was it the cable provider who said so ? In the latter case, there’s no hope, in Amerloque’s view …

Of the past six weekends, the cable provider Numericable has screwed up with NASN in Amerloque’s part of town. On Friday evenings, the screen begins blinking and breaking up.The ensuing call to the incompetent offshored technical people ends invariably with Amerloque’s making an appointment for the following Tuesday to “check the installation”. On Mondays about noon (after yer another ca, NASM is mysteriously restored to its full measure. This has happened five times out of six. That sixth time the “technician” called on Tuesday. When Amerloque explained the problem, he said “It’s not you !” and magically NASN returned a few hours later. So Amerloque has missed a passel of NCAA games …

This is neither the time nor the place to detail Amerloque’s problems (like millions of other users !) with Numericable, arguably the worst company in France, if not the world. (sigh)

It looks like Amerloque will be subscribing to an ADSL TV service and taking the CanalSat option with the Sports Pack, if the problem persists this weekend. (sigh) DartyBox looks good -- any ideas, please ?

/// PSS - I'm getting a little fed up with CNNI who systematically leads reports with an Obama photo op and then McCain comes in second and it's usually quite negative. ///

CNNI was a different story under Ted Turner, in Amerloque’s view. Since the takeover by Warner a few years ago, CNNI has been on a downhill track. It passes off lies as truth, and opinion as fact.

Hello Greg !

/// I could not stand watching the crap reported on French news about America. ///

One wonders, sometimes, if it is ignorance rather than malice. (sigh)

The other day on LCI (the pro-Sarkozy all news channel, as opposed to iTele, the pro-Socialist all news TV channel) the most respected Economic Talking Head in France said: “This November, Americans will be voting on one third of the senators and one half of the representatives. “

Guess he really doesn’t know much about the USA, since we Americans know that ALL of the representatives are up for re-election every two years.

Of course Amerloque emailed, but no answer … (sigh)

Hi Amerloque

"Does Rocket mean that he called NASN, or was it the cable provider who said so ? "

I called Numericable "3990". Was first told that I was not a subscriber to this channel and then I went ballistic when the woman insisted I was not a subscriber even though I insisted that I had been watching the channel for over a year.

Then she tells me it must have been a trial period.

BILLED! I cried!

YOU ARE NOT A SUBSCRIBER!

I almost fowled my pants!

Then called twice again and at least then I was confirmed as a subscriber but was told that there was no problem on the network " Would you like a technician" No thanks at 50€ a pop because it is always the fault of the subscriber. So I sat it out and sure enough Monday morning it was back.
In fact there was a problem as the feed comes out of Germany and there was a small message in German when you push the info button on the remote. When I finally was able to babelfish it, later that evening I understood that the message said technical problem. But numericable was unable to tell me that.

I am so thankful that firearms are illegal in France as I would probably be serving my 31st year in prison.

PS - Do you have the new cablebox? I got mine in July after using the old one for 9 years and reception is much better except for these glitches.

Was in Venice a couple of weeks ago and when I came back my tv screen was green for about 30 minutes when I turned on the tv before going normal with normal usage of the cable.

Go figure!

PS - I had to explain to 2 people who accosted me at a clients to ask me how it is possible to be so racist in the US as per "whip" his ass. I told them not to take everything at first degree. Then of course the ensuing discussion and reference to the Daily show and how it is soooo good.

La pensée unique quoi!
