Polish PM Says Nation-Building Efforts In Iraq Have Failed

Click on the title for the full AP article (if you can stomach it) by Mattias Karen. The very title of the article makes you want to ask the writer, where he keeps his crystal ball that he uses to predict the future.

TALLBERG, Sweden - Poland's prime minister said Monday that postwar nation-building efforts in Iraq have "failed totally," but expressed hope that the country's different religious groups can work together to build an independent nation.

Poland has a limited understanding of how long it takes (and what it takes) to build a sound democratic republic. Before the Iron Curtain came down, the only nation-building that this generation has ever seen, was when the Soviets marched right in and set up a puppet government. So naturally, they think we should have whipped in and whipped out by now.

You are so right. People really have lost all semblance of patience...this charming MTV generation with the attention span of a gnat. These things take time, lots of it....with steps forward and then more back and then forward again.

I am skeptical as to Iraq's being able to establish a democracy, especially since there's a push there to establish shari'a law. However, I wouldn't issue a public proclamation about my beliefs. In addition, establishing a democracy took the American colonies a while, and they were coming from the Western perspective.

Of course, the former Clinton official had to chime in with his doomsday speech. Will Jimmy Carter also issue a proclamation?

This is not nice....But does anyone pay attention to what Poland says? Oops! I forgot! The Dems do, especially Teddy, who definitely has "the attention span of a gnat," [LOL, Esther!] due to the pickling of his brain, which truly couldn't afford to lose any synapses as he didn't have many to start with.

AOW, you may be absolutely right. They may not be able to manage a democracy, but the Polish PM is speaking far too prematurely.
