Those who believe in the adage "when it rains, it pours" might take the tale of the plaintiffs in Kelo v. New London as a cue to buy two of every animal and a load of wood from Home Depot. The U.S. Supreme Court recently found that the city's original seizure of private property was constitutional under the principal of eminent domain, and now New London is claiming that the affected homeowners were living on city land for the duration of the lawsuit and owe back rent. It's a new definition of chutzpah: Confiscate land and charge back rent for the years the owners fought confiscation.
In some cases, their debt could amount to hundreds of thousands of dollars. Moreover, the homeowners are being offered buyouts based on the market rate as it was in 2000 .
Message:
"Vengeance is ours!", thus saith the word of the city of New London.
What this means is, if you have the audacity to challenge government and you lose, you will pay dearly for it. You will be made an example for all to see, for they are the almighty leaders of your community. They are to be submitted to, upon command, and you shall submit yourself to their authority at all times, no matter what.
It's not enough that the city is going to forcibly take homes. But now, they are not going to pay full market value and they are going to assess back rent, to recoup legal fees and/or other costs.
I have taken the liberty to look up some names that you may want to send your best regards to and thank them for using the U.S. Constitution as toilet paper.

After you do this (that is, if you choose to do so), then, be sure to keep this issue alive by calling any elected representative (from any level of government) you have. Tell them you are going to work very hard (in whatever way you can) to replace them the very next election, if they do not put laws into place protecting people from this kind of governmental abuse.
This country is as good as gone, when you strip the people of their property rights.

I was listining to it on the show too LA, this amazes me, but down here in AL, the Gov is pressing legislation through that will make this just about impossible.
If anything, take solice in that these poor folks might have paid the price to open this issue to the nation, and kill it now.
This just makes me sick, LA. Damn politicians. Where in the hell is the justice, here?
Great post, LA!!!! This ruling has been pure insanity.
Necessary Roughness.
I hope they fight back too. But they will run the risk of getting charged for even more back rent, if they lose again.
G,
If everyone that is appalled by this will keep talking and writing about, it can and will become an outrage that could produce something meaningful. If not, these bastards will keep doing this.
Mustang,
Makes you want to puke. The idea that people are going to lose homes is one thing, but it is just plain and pure meanness, on these idiots' part.
Esther,
Thank you.
Just when I think I have seen it all, this kind of thing takes place. So don't worry, there is always something more shocking and more outrageous down the road.
The question is, how many people are sick and tired of it? And how many people will start flooding their elected officials with calls, e-mails, and letters voicing their displeasure?
The only thing these self-servers understand is not being re-elected.
Every time I think I've heard it all, along comes another incredible story. What's happening to our nation?
Of course, you've heard about that Arizonzan ranch given to illegals? Another jaw-dropper.
AOW,
I hadn't heard about that. I have been reading the Grants Pass Gazette (or whatever it's called). It's not one of the leading newspapers, on newstands everywhere.
But anyway, just what the hell do people think?
