VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Religious broadcaster Pat Robertson suggested on-air that American operatives assassinate Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez to stop his country from becoming "a launching pad for communist infiltration and Muslim extremism."
"We have the ability to take him out, and I think the time has come that we exercise that ability," Robertson said Monday on the Christian Broadcast Network's "The 700 Club."
"We don't need another $200 billion war to get rid of one, you know, strong-arm dictator," he continued. "It's a whole lot easier to have some of the covert operatives do the job and then get it over with."
This is why Pat Robertson and anyone that follows him, should not be anywhere near the government buildings, much less President.
While he is right about the money that would be saved from utilizing this alternative, he is very close to violating the law. It is a reckless statement and it may come back to haunt him.
Even if it was determined that this was absolutely 100 % necessary and absolutely the last resort to protect this nation in some way, you don't broadcast it. Both the left and Chavez, himself, will exploit it. If it ever were to happen at the hands of one of his own countrymen, the U.S. would be blamed. It could endanger operations already in progress that do not even involve assassination as objectives. There are a whole host of reasons that this was a bad decision, and these are just a few.
Even though they make up the major portion, leftists aren't the only ones guilty of irresponsible journalism.

Assassination wouldn't work anyway.
There's always a sucessor, and he and the local version of the nomenklatura will make every effort to see that is doesn't happen again.
LA, you and I think alike too many time. I just did a post on this too. Mine is focused around how wrong this is comming from a Christian leader, and how similar it sounds to the radical Muslim Clerics.
I have listened to Mr. Robertson many times, and when he preaches salvation, he usually makes sense. But when he comes out with pronouncements like this, he is not being a Christian at all.
My Granddad was a Methodist Minister for 62 years, he was a good man, a kind man, a very brave man when faced with evil. He would shudder if he had heard PR make these comments.
Robertson's statement does not surprise me in the least; the man is dangerous.
